MY REVIEW: My girlfriend and I had the best lunch we've had in a long time! The server was great! She was very knowledgeable, and suggested some great sushi rolls! We had the voodoo roll, yellowtail with jalapenos and cilantro, and the checker roll.
Everything was really fast. She immediately said hello as soon as we sat down. The sushi only took about 10 minutes, and overall we were in and out in about 30 minutes which was perfect for my lunch break.
The quality and service reminded me of one of my favorite sushi places in Vegas. I didn't think I'd find that in Sugar Land! I highly recommend this restaurant!

MY REVIEW: WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE? For my wife and I, this used to be one of our favorite restaurants, we had been eating here for years. Then about 1-2 years ago, there were some changes made to the menu, the hours were cut shorter, and ever since then there has been a decline in the quality of food and service. This most recent visit was the last straw for us - the sweet-chili glazed salmon had NO sweet-chili glaze (what's the name of the dish?) and was SALTY to an unedible degree. I sent the order back, and luckily was not asked to pay for it (although I left the restaurant hungry). My wife ordered the hamburger with no cheese and no onions, which seems to be too complicated for their staff to get correct. First we were told that french fries were unavailable, which she wanted. Then the first time we received a burger with cheese, sent the order back, then we received an undercooked RAW hamburger, sent the order back again, then the third time we received a burger WITH CHEESE AGAIN, sent the order back and asked them to just put the new burger in a to-go box because we were done with this place. Behold, when we got home, we saw a sloppy poorly-made burger WITH ONIONS. C'mon, I get better service at M*cDonalds, even on the worst of days.
So sadly, we will NEVER go back to what used to be one of our favorite restaurants unless major changes are made and the place becomes what it used to be. Oh, and we were never offered to speak to a manager either.

MY REVIEW: if you're going for happy hour prepare to wait for a table. it's first come first serve but they don't believe in lines here. there were about 4 parties waiting when another couple came in and just stood by a table that was paying. they immediately sat down and oddly enough the manager said they had right of way because they sat down first even though the rest of us were civilized enough to wait in an orderly fashion.
the food's definitely not great but not too shabby especially for the price.
our waitress tonight was great but i can't say that for the other occasions that we've been there.
if you want a shorter wait time, i recommend going to the sugarland location. (or just skip kona all together)

MY REVIEW: Walked into the restaurant with a party of 4 at 6:30 pm. Was told there would be a 20 minute wait. When we were finally seated, we could see there were several empty tables and booths, so why we had to wait 20 minutes is a mystery. We were seated in a booth with no silverware. Waiter ambled over and took our order. Told him we just wanted water with lemon. Five minutes later, he returned with 4 glasses of lukewarm water, very few ice cubes in the glasses, and no lemon. By this time, we were starving. Ordered 4 individual pizzas. Pizzas showed up shortly thereafter, but we still had no silverware. Asked the waiter if the restaurant used silverware, and he again ambled off to find some. I was about to flag down the resturant manager to complain when the waiter came back with silverware and napkins. Of course, our pizzas were cold by this time. Waiter acted like he could care less. This was our first time to visit Kona Grill. We were really disappointed. Service like this is not what I expect from what appears to be a nice restaurant. I won't return!

MY REVIEW: I've had a couple of friends mention Kona Grill, so I finally decided to give it a try with one of them last night. We got there around 5:30 and were greeted by a friendly staff. We walked straight to the bar area and sat ourselves at a table. The atmosphere was pleasing, but I was a bit nervous because of some reviews I'd read about the service. Our waiter came soon after we sat down and was wonderful. He, Ashely, was very nice and knew the menu very well. Because I'm so indecisive, I asked alot of questions and it didn't seem to bother him @all. My friend and I ended up getting a pizza, avocado rolls, pot stickers, 2 beers, a cosmo, and a margarita...all for only 30 bucks! Everything was great...service/food/atmosphere... I will definitely return ALOT :)

MY REVIEW: I had visited this restaurant about 4 times before and had never been so disappointed until this recent past visit. I was there with friends for lunch. It took them about 25 minutes to serve us our lunch. Mind you, we couldn't get our waiter's attention to ask him to check on our order. Finally, we got someone and he said he didn't mind checking. I watched him, he went into the kitchen, saw that he was looking at something, came out heading towards us but turned and walked away from us, and never came back to us to let us know anything. Later, my friends asked for more sauce for our fish tacos, never got it and then finally, our waiter showed up, and it took him quite awhile for him to give us our extra sauce. The fish was disappointing; it smelled fishy.

MY REVIEW: Note: I'm only reviewing the sushi!!! Not the entire menu!
My friend and I went to Kona Grill to try it on a whim and wanted sushi (since we were already in the Galleria), we walk in, the hostess working wasn't at the front. A few moments later she appears, clearly see's us, walks up approaching us and turns around and walks off the other way! We don't even get a "One moment please" or "I'll be right with you" no aknowledgement whatsoever. Finally we get seated at the bar and I have to say the sushi is over priced and sadly the pieces fell apart. My friend got the spicy tuna roll and it wasn't very spicy at all. It had flavor, but not enough.
I hear good things about this place, so I might venture back, but just not for the sushi.

MY REVIEW: Since they finally got rid of indoor smoking, you can get happy hour prices without choking on second hand smoke. Most food is ok, but Filet Mignon is great! Service not real good at times, tables sometimes sticky, and bar area crowded with loud yuppies. Overall, good place to eat a good steak (only reason I go there), but otherwise go elsewhere.

MY REVIEW: I love their happy hour drinks and food. Esspecailly the Avacado rolls. Service has been exceptional except for one night recently. The bar area is always crowded so make sure and get there early.
I definitely recommend this place.

MY REVIEW: My friends and I have made it a tradition to eat here every Thursday night for reverse happy hour (9pm-11pm). Half priced appetizers, sake bombs, beers, some drinks for the ladies, and half price sushi (4 common rolls). We can get full off sushi for 10 bucks, or get tipsy for 15 bucks.
We like sit out in the patio area when its nice outside. Generally an early 20s crowd here.. which is a big change of pace with all the family style restaurants in Sugar land.

MY REVIEW: I've been going to Kona Grill in Sugar Land for a few years, and have not once had a bad experience. Always enjoyed the food and service. Can't complain one bit. It is a very busy place and the waiters/waitresses work hard and I see that. Happy hour appetizers are always amazing and never had a problem with it. Can't think of one weak point so I will end it there. :)

MY REVIEW: It was not a good experience. We were seated for more than 10 minutes before someone came for a drink order or acknowledged us. It was so very cold at our table, I asked to move to an open booth I pointed out and the hostess went to ask. Then came back and said the booth was reserved. The booth was still empty ten minutes later when we moved to the patio (in Dec.) for a milder temperature. The door between patio and bar was left open making the patio table very loud from the "Rich & Beautiful" kids at the bar. The diablo shrimp was ok, but certainly not worth enduring the attitude. This place is made for teens and early 20's to test their popularity among peers .... not for diners.

MY REVIEW: Family and I wanted to try something new in Sugar Land, all I can say is don't bother with Kona Grill. Arrived for lunch on a Thursday around noon. Waitress seemed disappointed we didn't want to sit outside in the wind or at the bar. Hostess was genuinely put out that we asked to be seated in the dining room. Ordered the Diablo Shrimp appetizer and paid 12.95 for 6 shrimp with a Buffalo style sauce on them! Not worth the cost at all! Ordered "blackened catfish tacos" for lunch. Not only was the fish not blackened, it was not even cooked. The fish was barely warm and still the translucent color of uncooked fish, with a texture of mush. I took the fish out of the taco and ate the cabbage and avocado. (I don't send food back, I've heard horror stories of what you get in return!) The only saving grace was a kind and conscientious waitress. While I did not send the food back she knew I didn't like it and took it off my bill. The waitress deserves a better place to work!

MY REVIEW: This place has absolutely awful service. We went at a down time - around 2 -3 - for a late lunch. Of course, we were seated promptly because no one was there. However, we were seated with an excellent view of the kitchen, and when we requested a more private booth, the waitress stated that the other tables had been reserved. Really. We finally ordered, and one of my friends and I (I was with three of my friends) decided to split the steak and we asked specifically for her to bring an extra plate with the order so we could split it. The food finally came but there was not an extra plate. We asked for an extra plate, thinking they must have forgotten, and literally waited for ten minutes for a plate. There were only around two other parties there. We finally went up to a waiter loitering by the kitchen and asked for a plate. He asked to wait, entered the kitchen, and never came back. Meanwhile, our glasses were empty and the waitress walked by many times without asking how the food was or if we needed anything. Finally, we decided to leave. She finally decided to pay attention to us - "Wait, you can't leave yet. You haven't paid!" Pay for what? Untouched food? Despicable service? Disrespect toward clientele? Do not eat at this place if you have a shred of self-respect.

MY REVIEW: Slowest, weakest service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. The waiter, when he did decide to show up, apologized profusely, but we were horribly disappointed. THEY WERE NOT BUSY! There were many open tables.
Our party finally got up to leave after waiting 15-20 minutes for a desert that is straight out of the refrigerator. We asked for the bill from the hostess. I paid, and learned that my substitutions of vegetables for another vegetable on the menu were charged full price ($3/EACH). Apparently, this is common there (if you ask the hostest and waiter). So, give up your veggies for another veggie, and get charged for two new sides. Good policy.
I give Kona Grill Sugarland ZERO stars out of 10. (0/10).
