I'm originally from Corpus Christi and I've had a hard time finding down-home TEX-MEX food in Houston. Sunrise Taquitos is a hidden treasure near Bellaire and the Beltway. It's at the corner of a business park and you'll miss it if you blink, but it's got great food and great service. It's family owned and operated and the flour tortillas are hand-made as well as the tamales. They're not the flat chewey tortillas most restaurants have, they're thick and fluffy like my mom and dad make. The Carne Guisada is also Tex-Mex goodness with the traditional grayish gravy -NOT the red salsa gravy everywhere else in town. It's a small place that feels homey and comfortable like you're eating at your mom's or uncle's house. It reminds me of my childhood when my own parents owned a tex-mex restaurant in a small Texas town many years ago. The only con is that they close early -2:00pm But if that's the worst I can say about this place that's saying alot for me, because believe me, I can find a problem with almost every place I go.
