Profile Description: Citysearch #3 of Houston's top 10 new restaurants of 2005. With its slick, modern digs, the 713 Restaurant.Lounge in the high-tech Westchase district could easily be the hippest new hangout in Tokyo or New York -- or for that matter, the setting for an episode of the TV show 'Alias.' But its cool lighting, smart and angular furniture and metallic, woven wall partitions are not just pretty wrappings; 713 has rockin' sushi as well as a bevy of other Asian and continental dishes that are artfully p

MY REVIEW: Always great food, service and cocktails. The champagne, fuji and dragon roll are definitely worth a try.

MY REVIEW: I eat here at least once a week. Great food, moderly priced, and excellet service. Dragon roll, miso soup, and house salad (enough for 2) are my favs.

MY REVIEW: This is my official favorite sushi bar in my neighborhood ! I have NEVER had a bad experience here! The sushi is always very tasty and expertly done. I have tried several things from the menu that were not sushi-rice based or sashimi and the dishes were very flavorful and attractive as well.

Presentation is very appealing. Wait staff is in tune to every need, very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive or overdone. The ambiance of this place is what I love just as much as the food. You feel like you are in a stylish place like you see in movies. Art and music along with creative interior design make such a pleasant atmosphere, even nice touches like candles at every table and clean, white linen table cloths add to the experience.

The lounge is very impressive, clean, and comfortable. With a good flow to it where it never feels too crowded. I highly recommend happy hour here. I take people here often and suggest it to everyone I know who likes sushi. I have even taken a large group with me, and they have plenty of room for large parties as well as they do have nice niches for smaller ones.

Give this place a try, and you will see why I like it so much.

MY REVIEW: Strong points...? Umm I guess you can say that the food is cheap...

Weak Points... Food is wack and takes forever to make. Some of my sushi was made but my gyoza took quite some time to make. I think that the food quality sucks.

Desert was probably the nicest thing out of the whole dinner. The waitstaff is awesome there but, that doesn't make up for the food. For such a small table we only ordered 4 rolls and all the rolls came out on 4 different plates. What gives?

MY REVIEW: This was my first visit here and I was very impressed. I loved the ambiance of the place, and the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive.

I ordered the ranbow roll, and it was excellent. The prices are very reasonable as well!

MY REVIEW: This was my first time at 713, and I really enjoyed everything about it. The service was great and the food was even better. I can't wait to go back again. Oh yeah, 1/2 price bottles of wine on Mondays will also keep me coming back.

MY REVIEW: I have been here more than 4-6 times only because I had a few coupons that were like $15 dollards off if you spend over $40 without alcohol. With all the times that I have been here, I noticed that their appetizers and salads are waaaaaaaaay better than their sushi. Oh yea, their entrees are delicious as well. But this is a sushi restaurant and unfortunately, their sushi is as good as the sushi you can get at a neighborhood grocery store (not a good thing). I have tried everything from the nigiri rolls to the rice and the hand rolls. I don't know what it is that makes their sushi not so tasty. But I am always happy with their salads like the squid salad and the grilled chicken salad (with a delicious sesame/miso dressing). The atmosphere is very trendy, the service is great, but the sushi just ain't that good. I will probably still go here again for the happy hour specials since it involves appetizers and delicious cocktails. Maybe I've just gone on bad days since my coupon will only be honored on Sundays through Wednesdays.....but yea, that's my review!

MY REVIEW: I have always had a pleasant dining experience when I go to 713 until recently. I had the worst service in my life there this past saturday. I came in with a group of friends only to be treated like we were an inconvience to the waiter. He was straight rude to all of us and didn't know anything about the menu when asked. He was hardly there and was seen just standing around talking to his co-worker. We saw our drinks sit at the bar for a good 10 minutes before he even brought it over to us. Based on the reciept, his name was coy, so hope you dont get him. Overall, the service there is usually great and friendly. The food is good and the atmosphere too. Don't think I will be going back or if I do, will request someone else, anyone else.

MY REVIEW: Agree that 713 service is slow. I only eat in the bar lately but the last time we were having sushi to kill a couple of hours before an event. First order was so slow we ordered our next two together at that point. Even at that we sat with nothing for 15 minutes. It was before 5pm on a weekday, not crowded, and we could see 3 sushi chefs. WTH? When we cleared we mentioned we had an event elsewhere and the guy said, "Oh, so that's why you didn't order much." Ha! We would have had twice what we ordered if only we could.

Having said that, the sushi was fresh, well presented, and the bar had all types of interesting, friendly people including redneck workers just off work and sharing sushi platters. Really enjoyable sushi bar.

MY REVIEW: I know this review might be a little too late, but I have to write this. This place will not get my service anymore. I had to attend a friends birthday party there with at least 15 of our friends. Well, lets start with the waiter service.

- We waited literally 15-20 minutes for our drinks to get served to us. Some of our friends were getting really thirsty and aggravated at the service. It was ridiculous and this was just beer.

- Now lets move onto Champagne. We order a bottle of Moet and some orange juice to mix with the Moet. It took almost another 20 minutes for it to serve us. After they brought it out, it was missing the orange juice we ordered. After we ask numerous of times to bring it out to us, they came back with a small vase bottle with like only half of a cup of orange juice when they absolutely know we have a party for 15. We were so angry at this point we wanted to leave, but we have already placed in our food order already.

- Now onto the food. Basically, we waited for about 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food to get served to us. My brother and our friend had to wait another 15 - 20 minutes for their last sushi order to get served to them while everyone have already been served and done eating. I mean, the food is great in all, but the service is terribly bad.

- When we receive the check, it was close to $500 total for the whole group. We were shock at how much it was. We double checked everything and calculated the tip. The tip was already included and it was 18%. I mean I will tip really good if our waiter wasn't a complete moron, but this was just too much for someone that just slacked off. The tip was calculated at close to $80. The whole group was so furious at this point. Our waiter did not, at one time, give us a refill on our water and ice tea. We had to ask the bus boy to do it for us. He should be the one getting the tip. We wanted to talk to the manager so bad, but did not want to wait for another hour to fix the problem since it was a Saturday night.

Me and my friends will not be going back to 713 anymore. They have ripped us off with poor staff management and poor customer service. 713 needs a makeover by Chef Ramsey from Hell's Kitchen ASAP and I'm dead serious =|. Good luck to the rest of you.

MY REVIEW: Went for the first time a couple weeks ago was surprised by the great happy hour prices and the great service. The sushi is not the best ive ever had but it is very good, it is very fresh and the presentation is excellent. The kitchen food is just average with maybe two or three great items like the eggrolls or the ribeye. The decor is nice , the prices are very reasonable and exceptional for happy hour, i will definitely be back for a casual dinner or afterwork drinks.

MY REVIEW: I went with a group of friends and had a great time. It was my first time and was hesitant after reading some mixed reviews. Everything from sushi to drinks was excellent. The sushi pieces were fresh and at an affordable price. The wine list could have a few more selections but it was okay. Had a great waitress, Cathy, that I believe was mentioned in another review. She had a great energy and was quite fun to talk to. There is a lounge side that was pretty crowded and is a nice area to go relax after the meal. All in all, it was an memorable experience and I will definitely be back.

MY REVIEW: I have been here several times for lunch since I work only a few blocks away.I stopped in with threeco-workers after seeing their happy menu this past Monday. There was a nice mixed crowd at 5:45. From the way people were dressed, they probably just got off work like us. We had 3 drinks each by 7:15 and decided to get a table for diner. Our bar tab was only $6 each since all longnecks and well drinks were only $2. We ordered a variety of sushi and a bottle of La Crema chardonnay for $17.50 (it's was 1/2 off all wine by the bottle on Monday). The sushi was absolutely great. Everything tasted fresh and the presentation was awesome. Service was above average. The four of us walked out fully satisfied with a $21.57 tab, before tax and tip. That's an awesome deal. I highly recommend this restaurant for sushi lovers and happy hours seekers. My co-workers and I will definitely be back soon.

MY REVIEW: I've been coming here about once a week for a few months. I was there this past Thursday for a quick meal but had such a good time that I stayed closed to 3 hours. Love the sushi! I think it's the best I've eaten in Houston. My waitress, Cathy, was very nice. I drive past at least three sushi restaurants when heading to 713 but it's worth it. I highly recommend this place. I do agree with the prvious person that they have a great happy prices on sushi but i do not think their regular pricing are more expensive than other sushi restaurant. I've eaten at two good sushi places in the rice village and their prices are more expensive.

MY REVIEW: I went there on a Friday before the holiday weekend and the restaurant was empty. There were more employees than customers. Therefore, I did not understand why the sushi took so long to make. But that's okay. It was worth the wait because the fish was fresh and did not smell bad at all. We ordered nothing but sashimi and a few fried rolls, and they were all delicious. If you're on a budget, don't eat here, unless it's happy hour!

MY REVIEW: I decided to try this place out even though it had mixed reviews. I went with a couple of people and I can safely say that I, nor my friends, will be going back. I agree with the previous reviewer that said that it was on par with grocery store sushi. Pre-packaged sushi at the stores might actually taste better. It took so long to get out sushi and there were only a few tables. Tried the signature 713 roll and was greatly disappointed. The ribeye was decent and priced well. My friend liked it but agreed was not worth going back for.

The nigiri pieces were not fresh. We eat sushi at least 3-4 times a week and this is one of the worst. The service was just okay. Saw the workers just standing around while I could see my sushi ready. The bill was too much for the quantity and quality. There are so many sushi/japanese places in the area that it is a waste to come here. I don't mind spending alot of money on dinner but for food worth it!

MY REVIEW: In a nut shell: I won't be going back.

I only had sushi and this was the worst sushi I've had in Houston. I felt it was on par with the pre-packaged stuff in the grocery stores. The spicy tuna roll was beyond bland. The New Orleans roll has fried crawfish and by the time it made it to the table, the crawfish was cold, soggy, and didn't have much flavor. The spitfire roll (red snapper roll that is then battered and fried) was uninspiring as well. One of my friends had an unagi roll that was swimming in way too much eel sauce. The escalar nigiri and the unagi nigiri were good though. Thankfully I got all my food at happy hour prices which are quite reasonable. The waiter was good and attentive, but I felt that it took a long time for us to get our food (there were only 4 of us).

Perhaps it was a bad night to go, but with so many other good places around, there is no need to risk another bad meal.

MY REVIEW: I absolutely love 713! I've had both sushi & cooked food from 713. I have to say that the cooked food is just "ok", however, the sushi is GREAT! It is so fresh & tasteful. The staff is friendly & very helpful. They make sure that you have everything you need to have a great dining experience. 713 has a great atmosphere. You can choose the intimate dining area (great for dates) or the open bar area (great for hangin' out & drinking). You must look presentable but the dress code is not very strict. They also have great martinis! I love this place & I'm going back this weekend.

MY REVIEW: I recently had the opportunity to make a "bar crawl" of several sushi bars. It gave me the interesting opportunity to sample several things from a number of restaurants in a very short period of time, so the quality, portion size, and relative cost was fresh in my mind for each location. 713 was the first stop that evening, and the first time I'd eaten at the restaurant.

My initial impression of 713 is that it exists to cater to the 20-something set look for a chic place to be seen on a Friday evening after work; the brushed aluminum-and-marble sushi bar with back-lit yellow light panels on the wall above, the use of curved structures (the walls, bar, and sushi bar), and the lighting all factored in to that assessment.

The hostess was pleasant, our waitress friendly and never far away, and the sushi chefs were quick to answer questions. My drink, though a fairly small glass, was quickly refilled without my asking. Our order came out quickly, but since we only ordered a handful of items, and it was a very non-busy Wednesday evening, this may or may not be representative of service during busier times.

The food was pricey but tasty. The pepper tuna sashimi we ordered was 3 fairly small cuts of beautiful and perfectly cooked tuna. However, it was over-peppered in my opinion, burying the flavor of the fish. And at $8, over-priced compared to some other restaurants with equally fresh sashimi (K*oto, located only 1/2 a mile away on Westheimer, offers 2 pieces of pepper tuna sashimi for less than $3 - you do the math). We chose two rolls as well, the "famous" 713 roll and the Proscuitto roll. Both were very good, and fairly generous at about 8 cuts of each. Again, I felt that these were a bit pricey, even for a "house specialty", at $11-12 each.

With tax and tip, our bill here (with only non-alcoholic drinks) was $46; for as little food as we ate, this one doesn't score very well in my book for bang-for-the-buck. The food is fine, but no better than you'll find at a number of other places. Will I return? Probably, but not often.

MY REVIEW: I stumbled into this restaurant not knowing what to expect. I live a few minutes away but never heard of it. I went last night with a few friends and had the great time. The food and sushi were decent...you can get this level of food at other restaurants. It was good but not the best. The prices wasn't bad at all. What made the night was the service and atmosphere of this place. It was very cool, laid back, and had a nice decor. Our waitress was amazing. I think her name was Kathy. She was sweet and funny. I will definitely be asking for her again. I will come back just for the feel of it and the location.

MY REVIEW: I've visited 713 for lunch this Monday and was quite impressed with the atmosphere and quality of food. My mother ordered the lunch special - bento box and she couldn't finish. I ordered the sushi combo, for 10 bucks, i had plenty of sushi and they were very fresh. The only thing i didn't like was the waiting. Although the staff was very nice, she was constantly away and we couldn't find her. Overall, i will definitely come back and i heard they have a very good happy hour!

MY REVIEW: The sushi is incredibly fresh, and the entrees are surprising great considering the attention to the sushi (personal favorites: both salmon dishes and Chilean sea bass). Great martinis (713 and choc.) Very friendly staff.

Overall - Best overall quality in a great enviroment.

This is a GREAT place to go especially if you have some people wanting quality sushi and other wanting quality cooked food.
