MY REVIEW: We just had lunch here, recommended by a highly knowledgeable sushi friend. Bottom line: very, very good!

I’m not a rice expert but it was clean and bright tasting, maybe not quite sticky enough but delicious. My associate and I both had the deluxe sushi special: six pieces of nigiri (tuna, salmon, yellow-tail, escolor, eel, shrimp), and a California roll. The soup was tofu/beef, very fresh and light, the salad the requisite lettuce and ginger dressing, the dressing not too heavy. Both the soup and salad were quite small, but appropriate for lunch, I guess.

The fish itself was excellent – large, thick pieces, beautifully cut, perfectly fresh. The rice in the nigiri often broke under chopsticks pressure, not sure if that’s a rice problem or a chef problem. Worth picking up the pieces though, the flavor was just right.

The California roll (I know, I know) was also good, served inside-out, the outside just a sprinkling of sesame seeds. A nice change-up on the old classic.

The service was excellent – virtually invisible, yet we got whatever we wanted right when we wanted it. Our waitress spoke little English but more than enough to take our order. I tried to order my personal favorite, masago with quail egg yolk, but she didn’t understand and the chef translated that they don’t carry quail eggs - a minor disappointment.

The restaurant itself is in the ubiquitous strip mall on the incredibly commercial and ugly Highway 6, in one of the islands in the middle of the parking lot where they squeeze in 5 or 6 more stores. The one dining roomo is very small, seating maybe 16 plus another six at the sushi bar. Even at noon on a beautiful Wednesday it was almost empty. However, the people that were there, and those that came and went while we ate were all Asians - always a good sign for a sushi place.

I will be adding my review to my favorite food sites so that more people can try this place. There aren’t a lot of choices on the far west side, so this is a welcome addition to the list of good sushi restaurants in Houston. It certainly deserves to have a full dining room!

MY REVIEW: I used to think Hiro's was the best in town until I took my daughter there last night. She travels a lot and has had sushi from coast to coast. I told her this was going to be some of the best she had ever had - WRONG. This actually turned out to be some of the worst we have ever had. The rolls were about 95% rice with a minimal amount of the other ingredients in the middle. $ 7.00 for a rice roll? Are you kidding!!

To add insult to injury, she only eats rolls with soy paper. Imagine her surprise when they wanted a $ 1.75 up charge for soy paper. She eats at some of the best sushi places in NYC, etc. and they never charge extra for soy paper. The "throw down" rolls at most chinese buffets were better than Hiro's. Even K*r*n II and T*dai now serve better sushi then this place.

MY REVIEW: After trying other local Japanese restaurants in the area Hiro's is at the top of my list. I've worked with Japanese food, been to Japan, and know the difference between "Americanized" food and authentic. Chef Hiro's is authentic and well-worth it. Even better, their service has always been extremely warm and welcoming, true to their customary hospitality.

MY REVIEW: All of the reviews, except Mr. Hilton's, praise this restaurant to the highest. When the location was in The Woodlands, where I have eaten many times, Mr. Hilton says that he quit going there and went into Houston to a place he liked better. Hiro is now out on Highway 6 but with the same great sushi and other authentic Japanese food that he and his wife served before. When I hear Mr. Hilton complaining that a waitress missed filling his tea glass and that there was something missing on the menu, I see a disgruntled guy who wouldn't know fresh seafood if it were thrown at him from the boat. All the rest of us who know great sushi realize that Hiro is in a special class as a chef who knows how to make sushi at the highest level and takes pride in doing it.

MY REVIEW: If you are interested in sushi prepared by a Japanese Sushi Chef, then this is the place for you. Very friendly owner, operator and staff. This sushi is more authentic than most restaurants. Food is beautifully prepared, and served with great care. Everything was absolutely the best. Please give Hiros a chance when you looking for authentic Japanese sushi.

MY REVIEW: You know that you are in a great place for sushi when over half of the customers are Japanese. The service was great the first time we went, but it wasn't busy. The second time they were very busy and we were there for a couple of hours. But we didn't care because the sushi is that good! We will be going back as often as we can afford to!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I just recently found this place and we love it! The food was great, it wasn't too expensive if you order sushi or sashimi combo. It was clean and the service was great!

MY REVIEW: I was a patron of Hiro's when his restaurant was in the Woodlands and was heartbroken when it closed. You can imagine my near-tearful joy when I found Hiro standing behind the counter of Hiro Sushi on Hwy 6, his product is that good. Every piece is fresh and so delectable you could almost swear there is something either magical or "medicinal" in the rice. It is to the point where I now prefer Hiro's raw fish to ANYONE's cooked fish, it's that fresh and flavorful.

I highly recommend the Sushi Deluxe for a great array of assorted nigiri and the best california rolls I have EVER had. Add to that the Spider Hand roll and you have a meal you'll be dreaming about that night and craving the next day. Give it a try, bring your friends, convert everyone you meet and help the best sushi in Houston (possibly all of Texas) stay in business!

MY REVIEW: I know some missionaries who have lived in Japan for years and years and they say this is as traditional as it gets over here in the States. This food is amazing, I love the atmosphere and the personality of the restaurant. Family-owned and operated too! Try the Tom Tom Roll! 5 stars for the quality of food

MY REVIEW: This is the best kept secret for sushi in Houston. The value, selection, and ambiance are very Japanese-like in character, and Japanese people in town know Hiro Sushi as the to-go place for sushi. They only serve the freshest fish and it is a great place overall. If you know sushi, you will not be disappointed by Hiro Sushi!

MY REVIEW: I am generally a sashimi purist, meaning that I only eat raw fish with no rice. Being that way I appreciate fresh fish that has a good texture. The grade of fish is so important when eating sushi and I appreciate Hiro san for serving great grade sushi. It is the same quality of fish that I have eaten at other higher end sushi restaurants. Actually the fish is better then a lot of upper scale restaurants.

You cannot get any better fish in the area. I think the ambiance is quaint, the staff is friendly and eager to serve. If you love sake, this place has an assorted selection and is served in the traditional manner, with a larger glass on a plate.

I wish there were a bit more selection on the sushi end, but all in all this is my favorite place to go in the NW side of town. It is definitely a place to check out. I'm confident that you will not be disappointed.

MY REVIEW: This is a great place for sushi. I love coming during HH, and there is alot more food that I'd like to try. The food I've ordered has been fresh tasting. It has a very layed back and pleasant atmosphere with good service. I highly recommend this restuarant. It's one of the best places to eat at in the Copperfield area. Try it...you'll like it!

MY REVIEW: This sushi restaurant is one of the best in the area. The food is always fresh, cost is reasonable, and the waitstaff friendly. I appreciate that the owner is Japanese - this is authentic Japanese cuisine - not one of those "common" Japanese restaurants popping up all over Houston. Reasonable wine prices, too! You must give this place a try if you are in the Copperfield area. My mom drives from Katy to enjoy Hiro Sushi because it is her favorite, too.

MY REVIEW: My fiance and I ate here last week w/ another couple. The place is small but ambiance is very nice. We got there during happy hour time & ordered two Crazy Rolls, a Houston Roll, and a Rock' Roll, a few single sushi pieces, miso soup, seaweed salad, and a house salad. Even the prices for items not on the happy hour list are affordable. Everything was delicious, sushi was fresh, service good. I plan to make this my sushi place to go to when I'm in the area & glad our friends introduced us to Hiro's
