MY REVIEW: My family and i go faithfully at least twice a month. The baked chicken is the shizznit! I've graduated now to the apricot chicken that my peeps told me about. Banana pudding i cant get enough of. My fam loves the italian creme cake which isnt too far behing the pudding. I always have some to take to work the next day but around midnight i never let it make it. Ive told everyone i know about this spot and they think its a game! Once they go they will realize this spot is for real.

MY REVIEW: I had a taste for some smothered chicken. When I arrived, they had sold out. But they had some smothered turkey wings that were off da chain! I had a really big meal. It was enough to share with my father. The service was great! The food was great! I will return!

MY REVIEW: Just heard about this place from a friend who heard they had the "best catfish in town". I looked it up here. It is in the same location where we used to go to a chinese buffet for years - small world! I called to get the price for a catfish plate. The recording said "no call-in or fast food (togo orders?), except Monday thru Thursday". "leave a msg for catering and we will call you back". I will have to wait til Monday to try the catfish at home.

MY REVIEW: O MY GOSH!!!! FOOD to die for. It taste just like grandmas cooking. The people there are so kind and wonderful. Makes u feel like you with family on Thanksgiving day. For some reason the steak and gravy is popular. It was so tender and very good. Sweet potatoes is a must. They give u soooooo much food I always have some left over for a midnight snack. If u are dieting I advise u not to go there.

I love Mikkis and the whole crew.

MY REVIEW: I have been to this restaurant twice, the first time was a bit uncomfortabl, there were characters that seeme not so kosher, but the food passed. The last time was just this week, I wanted to give them another chance because I truly like the dish that I ordered the first time.

I got my meal to go this time, and again it was good, not anything to right home about, I ordered the ox-tails, they could be a little more tender, but they did pass.

The customer service is great, they are friendly and customer oriented and take the time to make you feel as though you are a guest of honor. This alone will keep me coming on occasions.

I like them so far, and I am a tuff customer. Mikkis I would suggest taking a how did we do survey and pay attemtion to the customers, your business will definetly increase. You are doing a good job in customer service.

MY REVIEW: I'm hard on soul food restaurants because they have to meet or exceed the standard of homecooked food. That's really hard to do but Mikki's passes with flying colors! They get an A+ for atmosphere, it's a cozy spot and comfortable atmosphere. If you're "T*his Is It" fan you know the atmosphere there was very dreary. Compared to "T*his Is It" which I love, Mikki's has several advantages. One, the sides are impeccable, they cook REAL greens with chunks of ham hock, red beans with bacon, fresh yams and "Jiffy-Style" cornbread.

I've only tried 3 of the entrees, Fried Chicken, Smothered Steak and Oxtails all were good, however the last time I had the oxtails they were a bit small and tough, I still ate them but I prefer BIG oxtails not the tiny ends. When I ordered the gravy steak she put so much on my plate I was tempted to tell her it was too much but I kept quiet and took the leftover home which was a full meal. The fried chicken is truly homemade BUT it's only served on Fridays and Sundays, I was hurt one Monday when I went in and discovered this. The mac and cheese is not my style, I like baked mac and cheese with lots of cheese, there's is more cafeteria style, it's ok though.

Lastly dessert, I had german choc. cake. It was a huge slice but I must say T*his Is It has them beat in this department. The cakes were good but lacking that homemade touch. There close to my home and the line has never been out the door like at This Is It. Overall I give them an A-. If you need a fix and can't get to B*ig Momma's house Mikki's is the place to go..

MY REVIEW: Hungry? This is the spot to go - you get enough food to cure any size hunger and still have leftovers!

Once you go to Mikki's you'll never go any place else - the food here is outstanding from the sweet potatoes, green beans, and mac-n-cheese to the ox tail, peppers steak, and smothered pork chop choose anything you won't be disappointed!

MY REVIEW: I was introduced to Mikkis by a co-worker, I've tried other soul food restaurants and left dissapointed, therefore I was skeptical the first time I tried Mikki's. (I was very pleased with the food at Mikki's)!

I told my husband about it, my mom and my teenage daughter. We all love it. The mac n'cheese is off the chain and the ox tails are great. The only issue is the staff, they can use a little customer service training, but besides that the food is wonderful and the portion sizes are huge.

MY REVIEW: Good food and good friendly service. This was my first time eating there, but I heard many good things about the resturant. The mac and cheese is out of this world and the cornbread is so sweet and buttery. I would go back just for the mac and cheese and cornbread!

MY REVIEW: Lunch yesterday brought me in tonight. Brought my wife. Yesterday I had the beef (smothered steak) with rice and greens. Tonight I had the pork chops, rice and greens, and my wife had the baked chicken and a double order of greens.

We each took home half of it. Nice family atmosphere. Decor is simple but clean.

My wife's a good cook and she was very happy with everything. So was I. The food was just wonderful and the greens were extraordinary. I'd go there just for the greens.

They could have a better set up for taking your tray through checkout (bottleneck) but I'll be back many times for sure.

Nice folks. Somebody there knows how to cook - for sure. Mmmmmmm.

MY REVIEW: I love the ox tails with mashed potatoes. My mother brought us up on soul food but I don't know how to cook it. So when I can't get home to mom's, this is the next best thing. We're actually ordering there today (3/15/07)and 1/2 the office is breaking thier diets to order from Mikki's. The service department could use some help but with food like that, I keep going back. Keep up the good cooking.

MY REVIEW: We hired Mikki's soulfood cafe for our company Christmas party. We were concerned about having enough food for everyone and the taste (seasoning). Our party was at the post office and we had mail carriers who were going to get their food in to-go containers and "hit the street". I'm here to tell you that once we tasted a bite of that succulent turkey and ham, mouth watering dressing and mesmorizing candied yams, we had to sit back down and enjoy that food right there in the office. Let's just say, everyone was late starting their routes. The were professional and they even came out to our location and served each employee. All the food was wonderful and I am simply thankful that Mikk's is houston's own. I'm in the process of getting them to get our party together again. We love you Mikki's Catering!!!

MY REVIEW: WONDERFUL. OXTAILS...WONDERFUL. Now the customer service is not all that great, it could use a lot of improvement, but the food is so good, it doesn't matter!

MY REVIEW: Mikkis is what the old "This is Is it" used to be. Hands down the best Soul Food Restaurant Houston has to offer. The only thing bad about this restaurant is the service. Mikki's has a young wait staff and 99% of the time their attitudes are horrible!

MY REVIEW: When the right cook is in the kitchen...NO ONE can beat them. But, the food is iffy. Each time I go it’s like Russian roulette. (Although they may be working on there consistancy.)

My favorites...everything. If the right person cooks it, you will eat even after you burst! Delicious!

Try not to go on Sunday - It’s packed. Its always busy but, the best time to grab a few bites is during the week after the lunch crowd.

Prices are very reasonable. Huge Yummy Helpings!

MY REVIEW: Hands down, THE ABSOLUTE BEST Soul Food in the city. If there is a weak spot, I would say the cakes. Not terrible but not great either.

The fact that the place have very large crowds speaks volumes on how good the food is. The vegetables alone are worth the trip.

MY REVIEW: I think that Mikki's restaurant has the best soulfood. This is where I come on Sunday's if I don't feel like cooking myself. As for the last opinionated person before me, I feel as though this person should not have commented like that about the restaurant. These are subsequent issue that needs to be handled only by that person who spoke badly about the restaurant. Mikki's soulfood cafe has a nice atmosphere. And even if this person feels that the workers there are always tired, you should see how many people they are being serve everyday. This particular place stays crowded because of theie name alone. I'm sorry that a place like this who serves good food has to be ruined by one man alone. They say when you're doing good, someone always find something to bring you down. Please keep up the good work. And may God bless the owner of this restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I've only had soul food a couple of times, but this place was great. I had the apricot chicken over rice with mac and cheese, greens, corn bread and lemonade. Loved it all. The only downside is I felt like I needed a nap when I returned to work.

MY REVIEW: Mikki's is on the southwest side of Houston which is a nice change of pace (as opposed to traveling to Third Ward for soul food). The atmosphere and service aren't that great. Everyone seems very tired all the time -- but what the restaurant lacks in ambiance, is made up for with good tasting food. I like the turkey wings a lot. The cornbread is good too. I think once this restaurant really takes off, they could improve the interior decoration, and make it feel more inviting, yet the good homecooked meals are worth the efforts. Recommended.
