Mary'z Mediterranean Cuisine

MY REVIEW: I have been here two times both of them during the diner hours and the place is packed last time there was hardly anywhere to park. The food here is excellent I've had the falafel and shwarma and the namoura and all have been delicious. However the service is horrible! If you go during dinner hours and don't plan to sit outside with everyone that is smoking hookah be prepared for the worst service you've ever received at a restaurant. Last time I was there the waiter only checked on us twice once to take our order and then a second time because we got his attention to order dessert and each time he looked like he was being bothered. Not to mention what I think was the owners kept walking by our table and they didn't even bother to ask if everything was okay or anything everyone was more concearned with the customers outside. So in summary food is good service not so much

MY REVIEW: Dined here today for lunch after reading many good reviews and was very impressed. I had the mixed grill and cream baklava and both were excellent. I will definitely be back. Parking was fine and our server, Farah, was a delight.

MY REVIEW: We've been coming to Mary'z ever since it opened. The new addition, in the back, and the improved parking has added a lot this past month. Mary's cooking is absolutely the best Lebanese, in Houston. We've been eating Lebanese food, since 1975. We always look for Lebanese restaurants in cities, we visit. This one, along with N*ate's, in Cleveland, Ohio, is the real deal. We've never had a bad meal here. My only wish is that they used more lamb, instead of beef, e.g. shawarma. The front of the restaurant is under a tent and provides a big screen, for sports and bubble pipes. This is a big draw for a late night 'younger' crowd. If you've never eaten Lebanese, this is an excellent introduuction to the cuisine. Mary'z is a benchmark restaurant. If you know the food already, you will be well pleased.

MY REVIEW: After reading all the previous reviews, my husband and I decided to give Mary'z a go. (Especially after N*koN*ko's decided to up their prices so much and reduce their portions!) We went on a Tuesday, pretty late at night. We still arrived 2 hours before posted closing and there seemed to be a bit of a crowd on the patio but it was quiet with only 3 other customers inside. Being that it was so late, we weren't interested in hanging around all hours of the night and just ordered ourselves each a gyro.
The Pros: The inside is very neat and clean. I didn't feel like I was sticking to the table or my chair. The menu had quite a variety of Greek food - I'll try something else aside from a gyro next time. I LOVED that the owners were piled into a corner enjoying a dinner made out of their own kitchen. As a customer, this really says a lot to me. The quality of the food is very good - fresh onions, fresh pita, and the sauce is most certainly homemade! Our gyros were a foot long and I didn't feel that we were overcharged.
The Cons: Parking lot is unsure? Not well lit and the gravel side didn't seem like it was a part of Mary'z. We walked inside and I felt as though we had gotten there AT closing. The lady at the register didn't look up or acknowledge us. We waited for several minutes before a passing waiter? busboy? manager? asked us if we needed a table. After our waiter finally showed up, he took our order... We should have known we were in trouble when he didn't write anything down. For 2 gyros with little change as to what was on the menu (minus onions for me, minus sauce for my husband) I didn't think he would have such a hard time of it. Wrong. He came back with 2 gyros - minus tomatoes for me, didn't change anything from the menu version for my husband. I told the waiter so and he offered to correct the order, however blase he was about it. We had already waited 30 minutes, which I felt was pretty long consider the amount of people inside the restaurant actually ordering dinner and for 2 (relatively) simple gyros. After a long day, I told him we would live with it. We were too hungry to wait any longer.
To sum up: I will give this place another chance, I just hope we don't have the same waiter. Food is excellent, service needs to kick it up it a notch.

MY REVIEW: The food is as authentic and fresh as it gets and the family is very warm. I'm addicted..as are my friends that I've brought there. Been going there for 2 years and the food is very consistent. This is a small family-run "hole in the wall" with great food, relaxed atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

MY REVIEW: I love going there!!! Food and the atmosphere is awsome. The owners are really nice and warm. I feel I am at home going there. My son who's 2 years and half love Lebanese food especially "Kebbe", all kind of kebbe. The staff is great and nice. This restaurant is so clean and the food is as good in Lebanon. You can also order a special lebanese food, and you can pick it up the next day!!! That's what I usually do because my son goes to daycare/school and that's what he eats for lunch. Oh!!! and another thing they are sooooo nice to kids and I do not have to worry about my son misbehaving. There it's heaven for kids... and for me too and the husban too.

MY REVIEW: My friends and I went to Mary's on Saturday around lunchtime- we ordered the hummus (which was delicious) and a couple of different kinds of wraps. The chicken in mine was a tad on the dry side, but still tasted okay. The service was kind of slow, and we eventually had to ask for our check, but I would still give the place another chance and try something different from the menu next time.

MY REVIEW: I love this place. The food is excellent. I went in with my mom the other day. She had never been. She oredered the falafel sandwich & I ordered a kafta kabab sandwich with fries. Delicious!! My mom loved it & she is really picky with her Lebanese food. She just doesn't eat anywhere. They are very clean too. I will definitely go back as often as possible.

MY REVIEW: I visited this place for the first time just the other day, and it certainly wont be my last! A friend and I visited late in the evening (around 9:30) the inside was empty, because everyone was out on the patio watching the Rockets game. The street traffic can sometimes be noisy, especially when a metro bus passes, but the food and atmosphere make you forget all about the Richmond traffic.
We ordered several appetizers- kibbi, dolmeh/grape leaves, falafels, hummus w/ ground beef- and everything was delicious! The only (minor) complaint I have is that the grape leaves could've been a bit more tart, but the plate was served with a lime wedge so that problem was easily solved. The service was prompt and our waitress was very attentive- What more could you ask for?

MY REVIEW: I love Lebanese food and have tried several other Lebanese restaurants in Houston that were all good, but Mary'z is my favorite. It is a wonderful place to go with friends or family. Mary'z has always been crowded every time I go and for good reason! Their kabobs are fantastic...chicken or tenderloin! The meat is tender and flavorful. Entrees come with two side dishes and I usually get the green beans and the potatoes. The potatoes are my absolute favorite! They are tangy and delicious...not just plain and salted like a lot of restaurants. The green beans are also wonderful and have a great flavor...I don;t even normally like green beans, but Mary'z are great. Their bhaba ghannouj is some of the best I've ever had; it is awesome. Their hummus is also pretty good. I have taken friends who had never tried Lebanese before and weren't really into trying new foods and even they loved the food. The porch area is also great for spending time with friends and smoking hookah. The hookah is good with a nice variety of flavors. The prices are good for the quantity of food and the quality of food. Being a poor college student, it isn't something I can afford all the time, but it is cheap enough to have fairly often. The only bad point is that sometimes the waitstaff can be unattentive, especially when it comes time to bring the check. No fountain drinks either, just cans The parking lot can also be a pain since it is small with only one way in and one way out. Sometimes on weekends they make you park valet if it is really crowded. Besides that, Mary'z is a wonderful, family owned restaurant with excellent food!

MY REVIEW: Every time I've been to Mary'z it is packed...and it's no wonder! The food has always been great from the appetizers to the kabobs. The falafel and cabbage leaves are standouts. Service is generally friendly and efficient, though there have been a couple instances where our waitor disappeared for a while. However if you prefer takeout, the orders are always ready on time. Mary'z is one of our favorite spots in Houston!

MY REVIEW: Went with two other couples and sat out on the porch. Some folks might be bothered out here by the big hookahs smoking away, but this didn't really detract from the evening for us. We mostly shared an amazing array of appetizers and just a couple of entrees which were both excellent. We had both a red and a white Lebanese wine which were both quite good. This was the first time for Lebanese food for one of the couples at our table and they were both pleased very much with the variety and quality of the cuisine. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. We had so much fun we didn't even realize that we had spent 3 hours dining there - obviously this isn't a quick table turn over place that shoves you out the door as soon as they can to maximize profitability. The only mild disappointment was the baklava, but maybe I'm just used to a somewhat different type of baklava - this didn't have enough honey or nuts to satisfy me. Nevertheless, an overall enjoyable experience that we will undoubtedly repeat again.

MY REVIEW: We went out to eat at Mary'z last week with couple of friends, they never had Lebanese food at all, they loved it, and she called me the other day and ask me when are we going to eat at Mary'z again, she couldn't believe how much she was missing, we got Mezza Combination, witch is most of the appetizer in it, we cleaned the plates, then we had the Mixed Grill Platter witch was extremly tasty, and the lebane beer "Almaza" goes perfect with this kind of food, so if you never tried Mary'z, give it a try, and you will see how much you r missing!!!
Great Job :-)
