MY REVIEW: What a find! My wife and I had read about Merlion on AOL Cityguide and Citysearch.com and decided we needed to try it. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress let us sample five boutique wines before we decided on a bottle and we ordered the chef's special. We let the chef choose our 5 courses and everything was a pleasant surprise. The soups and salad were so unique and we had a delicious Entree called the Snapper Raad Prik which was simply awesome. Great service, great food, unique and romantic atmosphere. We Loved it!!! We will be back with friends!!

MY REVIEW: Fantastic is the word that comes to mind, my wife and I stumbles across Merlion about a month ago and have been there every week. We brought some of our friends and splurged on the Lobster Panang and Kobe green curry. Both were excellent. Our waiter, let us sample several french wines before we bought a bottle and did not rush us. We stayed there for almost three hours and never felt rushed. Great experience from beginning to end. It reminds me of a Eropean bistro. We will be back soon.

MY REVIEW: The service was excellent & the atmosphere was very nice, but my husband and I were not impressed with the food. He had the Kobe beef and it was terribly overcooked and dry. He was very disappointed. We waited so long for our dinner, he went ahead and ate it. The soft-shell crab appetizer was too strong for my tastes. We also had the fresh spring rolls which I request vegetarian and they only came with rice, lettece & shredded carrots. No avocado or cucumbers. We will no go back. We do not have a problem spending good money for good food, but as far as we are concerned, this place is overrated.

MY REVIEW: From the outside of the restaurant it leaves you wondering, should I go in. However, when we walked up and saw the sign to remove your hats, turn off your cell phones and conduct your business outside, I knew that it would be a nice establishment.
My wife and I were eating out to celebrate our anniversery and wanted something different. The waiter brought out several different wines for me to taste, which I have never had that experience before. We ordered the spring rolls that were incredible. We ordered the goat cheese salad and it was so fresh and the goat cheese was a nice addition. The waiter suggested a curry dish with lobster. This meal was so delicious, the lobster was cooked perfectly and was so sweet. There were avocado pieces in this dish which was perfect. The atmosphere was amazing, calming and quiet and I liked the fact that you were not rushed. Overall my dining experience at this restaurant was perfect, although I was so full that we could not eat desert.

MY REVIEW: Taking the training from his father, Andrew is a master at Thai. Of all the dining in Houston, this is our favorite place. The service is always professional and well organized. This is our first visit since his father handed over the reins. The atmosphere is very intimate and unhurried. You will need reservations for good reason. We have not tried the outdoor tables yet, but the view of the water and the gazebo must be nice. Our favorite is still the pad thai. If it is available, their mango dessert is the best. The wine list is excellent. It is also a nice escape from NASA for an unhurried lunch.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I have been patrons of Merlion since before it was Merlion (7 years - B*ay Thai). Chef Andrew has embraced all his father's knowledge and expanded on it to make Merlion the best Thai restaurant period. My experience with Thai food was very limited originally, and the curry dishes I had tried elsewhere left me unimpressed. I have been able to develop my palate and thrill at all the dishes served. Surprisingly, to my husband, one of my favorites is a curry dish (Beef Masaman). I have never had a bad meal and my husband and I eat there about once per week.
Since Madelyn has joined Merlion, the wine list has improved vastly. She knows her wines and is happy to let you taste the wares before purchasing. Her sense of style has infused the restaurant with a charming, ecclectic style and her dynamic personality.
The wait staff is always professional and attentive. They have fantastic personalities and make your dining experience phenomenal!!! All one has to do is ask and it will be granted.
Desserts - one word - incredible!
When we started going to Merlion it was for the food. Now, it is for the perfect food, relaxing atmosphere, charming staff and wonderful people we have met while dining there.

MY REVIEW: The atmosphere was INCREDIBLE! My husband and i were truely able to enjoy each others company, we weren't rushed at all. Instead you are encouraged to truely enjoy the whole expirience. The 'silence all cell phones' sign outside was nice. Our server was great- but I must say we ordered the BEST THING! The chef's choice- where you have a 5 course meal all chosen by Chef Andrew. SPECTACULAR! I don't think I could have it any other way. Some of the food brought to us wasn't on the menu yet. FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS!

MY REVIEW: This is a quaint, little restaurant situated in Old Seabrook, near the water. The warm, eclectic decor makes this place somewhere you want to sit, relax and have a leisurely glass of wine or two, before you even think about ordering food. Very romantic/intimate setting to say the least. The food is Thai at its finest. From the pad thai to different appetizers, curry dishes, salads, and deserts... Merlion rocks. And Chef Andrew always has innovative daily specials with some type of fresh seafood, meat and veggies to tempt the palate. This is not a place to rush into, eat then bolt, but rather to wile away some time and enjoy a complete dining experience. We are certainly lucky to have this stellar restaurant in our sleepy little 'burgh by the bay.

MY REVIEW: Since my previous mixed review, I have revised my opinion of this place. My husband and I gave it another chance last Spring and it's since become one of our favorite places to eat.
They've made a lot of changes, such as adding outdoor seating, and a crab legs special on Tuesdays. There are also a lot of daily specials that are not specifically Thai but more fusion cuisine. They're now open for lunch and open on Sundays too, which is very convenient.
The staff is super-friendly and they seem to have a very loyal following of regulars. There is a very good wine list. Sometimes the service is a bit slow, but I think it's because they are cooking each dish individually.
Once I was served food that I wasn't happy with, and the manager was nice enough to take it off the check AND give me a free dessert. Everything else I've had there is delicious. My only complaint is that they are often out of the Thai iced tea by dinnertime.
But other than that, I love what they've done with the place and I'll keep going back. The decor is beautiful too.

MY REVIEW: The wait staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The Massaman Curry is amazing. I had the Kobe beef one evening and it was the most delectable thing I have ever eaten. We love the restaurant, the owners, the staff, the view and everything else in between.
I shall continue to go back again and again.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I went there and the food was EXCELLENT! The curry with cinnamon and peanut was the perfect combo of flavors. My hubby had chicken with garlic, onion and chili peppers and he devoured it. Also the mango cheesecake was the best, most innovative (and tasty) dessert we've had in a while.
The service was attentive and cordial and we got to meet the chef himself so that we could tell him how much we enjoyed his cuisine.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I just moved near this restaurant and were really looking forward to having a Thai restaurant within walking distance. We visited on a Saturday night with my in-laws, who are not familiar with Thai food. We got there around 8:30PM on a Saturday night. The place was full but we did see a couple of empty tables. We stood inside for almost 10 minutes before we even saw anyone who looked like they worked there.
Once we were seated, the waiter was very friendly. It did take a while to get served, though, and we ended up with 2 different waiters - it seemed a bit disorganized. The staff was very nice and they did apologize.
When the food arrived, it was very tasty, but they got my mother-in-law's order wrong. They brought her pad thai, which was very good, but she had ordered a different noodle dish. She got about halfway through it before I took a look at it and told her it was not her dish. Having never had Thai food, she didn't realize.
When we pointed it out to the waiter, he was very apologetic and very nice about it. He even told us that they were going to make her a whole new dish of what she had originally ordered, without charge.
I must say everything they gave us was very good, including the desserts and the thai iced tea. We were one of the last tables to leave and stayed long after closing, but they did not rush us and encouraged us to order dessert.
The staff's kindness balanced out the disorganization. But the funny thing was: when we got home and opened up the container they'd given us which was supposed to have the noodle dish my mother-in-law had originally ordered, the only thing in there was a big pile of stir-fried meat with a ton of garlic! We couldn't figure out if they'd intentionally given her the wrong dish again as a joke, or if they'd just grabbed someone else's takeout order and given it to us!
Anyway, the food was excellent and the atmosphere and decor were lovely and laid-back. We will probably go back again, because I'm hoping the weird occurrences at our first visit were just a fluke.

MY REVIEW: the restaurant is located in a small cottage tucked in a quaint area away from the the hustle and bustle of nasa rd 1 and kemah. one can watch the sunset paint the sky and water shades of pink and purple from the window of the main dining room. the restaurant decor is inviting with the lobby painted in cheerful marigold and the dining room a cozy bordeaux.
i haven't travelled widely in thailand, but i am confident my palate is sophisticated enough to discern what is good and what isn't. the phanang is savory, but not too rich. my favorite curry is the kang kua with shrimp, scallops (perfectly cooked), and supple pineapple. for something with more of a kick, the raad prik with red snapper is delightful! those are just a few, but most everything is wonderful.
the service is always friendly and accomodating. it's almost as if you were being served right at home. i've dine at many thai restaurants in houston, and this is certainly one of the best. it may not be 100% thai, but it's still delicious! come experience for yourself!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I would make the case that the Bay Area Soi Cowboy review is an unusual experience. We eat there regularly, all dishes have been excellent for the price, and the two owners are very nice and trying to make the experience pleasurable. Every year, we have friends come to town that refuse to go anywhere but Merlion for dinner. While it may not always be traditional Thai cuisine, I don't think the owners would claim that it is, but instead it is just excellent, perfectly spiced cuisine with distinctive flavors. The duck compares to that served in resturants we haunt in Lyon and Paris. It is a true treat for the Clear Lake area.

MY REVIEW: Attractive little cottage. Delightful, very restful decor. I thought, what an enjoyable evening this will be! Wrong! I certainly do not agree with the previous reviewers in their overwhelming enthusiasm for this dining experience. Having benefited from both good Thai friends who taught me about their cuisine, and several oppurtunities to travel widely throughout Thailand, I think I can say that I know a bit about what I think is the most delightful food in the world. OK, Seabrook isn't Chaing Mai or Pattaya, but I've had much better tasting and better presented Thai food in Houston, and elsewhere in Texas, including Webster! I was very dissappointed.
A lukewarm tom yom gong soup featured a few over-cooked shrimp and was bereft of both lemongrass and chili. One could duplicate it with a mix from the asian foods section of any suburban supermarket. (Hmmmm...). I requested that my dishes be very spicy; they were in fact extremely mild. When I mentioned this to the server/manager, I received but a wan smile. No condiments - chilis, soy sauce, etc. were presented at table. The soft-shell crab were over overpowered in both volume and taste by an overly salty sauce, which I had been told would be served on the side. Our other dish of shrimp and calamari was somewhat better, but neither dish was presented in a way that one would expect from the prices and the otherwise pleasant environment. I have always found that even the most humble Thai food is almost always well-garnished and artistically presented, whether it is from a beach snack bar or from the Oriental's dining room.
As to service, It was polite but minimal; for much of the time we were there, there were no other customers. However, the few regular clients who did appear got far more attentive service. Perhaps they wrote the previous reviews! I had looked forward to a Thai treat, but got something that was, in fact, not much of a bang for my baht.
