MY REVIEW: This is the 2nd time we've eaten @ Bob's and once again our overall verdict is "what's all the hype all about?". The 1st time we went the food was just ok and the service was falt out bad. This time the food was once again ok but the service was down right terrible. We had to ask our server several times for thinks like lemons for our water, jalapenos, water refills, and silver ware. It wasn't until she brought our food out that she decided to tell us they were out of tamales (which my wife had ordered) and asked if she wanted to order something else. There was an employee on break sitting next to us and all the servers kept going by to talk to her while we sat unattended to, our server even checked a text message whie talking to us. This was the last chance for Bob's. I can find mediocre tex-mex w/ bad service alot closer to home...

MY REVIEW: This was our second attempt to eat at Bob's. The first time, it was wall to wall people, and still coming in. Turned around and left. Went back a second time on a Saturday at 4:30 p.m. We were the only ones there. So O.k. as a family we try and go to all the places that are here on DDD. We love Mexican, so we were anxious to try it. The best thing I could say about Bob's is that the waitress we had, Whitney, was great. Friendly and attentive. I had the chicken falautas, refried beans and rice. The falautas were so salty, I couldn't eat them. I asked my sister-in-law to try it and see if it was just me and she said they were very salty. The refried beans I had,I had to ADD salt because they had no taste. The rice tasted like it was out of a box. The salsa was tasteless also. Sorry, this one was the first that we have tried from DDD that we didn't like. Once was certainly enough for us, especially since we were the only ones in there. We will not be going back. On a scale from 1 to 10 the most given by all of us was a 4. Not worth the drive out there from Houston for us.

MY REVIEW: Had already eaten @ Sandy McGee's in Richmond but went to Bob's to get the snoballs we saw on DDD. Long line out in hot sun only made you want to change your original size from medium to jumbo! Only 1 person working the window & making the snoballs (peered in when our turn to see her using bare hands, that just took our money, to press down the ice in our cups TWICE!). Not too sanitary but we survived! I had the dreamsicle w/cream like Guy Fieri...YUM-O! As good as he said & then some. Sister had green apple which was also good & not TOO tart. Cheap prices too! If this had been Houston, it would have been double! Looking forward to heading that way for Bob's food next time & another snoball!

MY REVIEW: Was worried after reading a few reviews but headed there anyways. After watching on DDD was in need of a tamale fix. Flew in from Miami just to have lunch , even met Bob. Staff very nice and attentive, chips and salsa were fresh , salsa was very good had smokey flavor not to hot. We ordered the Mex plate crisp taco, enchilada , tamal and rice with refried beans. The food was very good and flavorful , after we went around the side for a coconut snowball , wow what a treat smooth almost like icecream but not really it was snow with verygood coconut flavor. All in all I recomond Bob's whole heartedly seems they got they're groove back!

MY REVIEW: We watch DDD and were excited to find something close to us. We drove from Houston after reviewing the website. We were disappointed-chips were extra, but included included with the carne guisada. We had to convince the waitress to bring us some, but the salsa was absolutely tasteless. After an extended wait the food arrived, served by an unfriendly waitress. Menudo was cold and tasteless, tamales were tasteless, and carne guisada was bland. All the food had no spice that you expect in Mexican food, and no other taste either. We also thought it was on the expensive side for the type of food served. They were doing a great business in $15 tshirts. We won't be back, and unfortunately it makes me wonder about other DDD recommendations.

MY REVIEW: I've been a fan of DDD for a while and when a local place came up I knew I had to go try it out.

I'll agree with other reviewers that I'm a bit disappointed, and I'm not sure to blame the TV show or if it's because the restaurant may have been overwhelmed by the increase in patronage. In either case, it was a mixed bag of good and not-very-good and I think I won't be returning.

Unlike others here, I thought the service was friendly. At least the young man that waited on us was all smiles, very polite and checked on us regularly. There was no line on a mid-Sunday morning, but the place was full and the line formed right after we were seated. The time between ordering and getting our food was lengthy - not get mad and leave lengthy - but it was a good little wait. To their credit they do have a sign saying they make their food from scratch to order and if you're in a hurry go visit a fast food place.

On to the food. The salsa that came with the chips was bland and not very appealing. No fire and no taste.

We got there in time to choose between breakfast or lunch, but we all ordered breakfast items. When the food arrived we all looked at each other and expressed the same thoughts - "not what I was expecting". With most of the breakfast plates comes what they call "potatoes", and for breakfast I would expect that to mean something like hash browns. What we got were short little french fries that looked like they came out of a bag and were limp, greasy, and had zero taste. The eggs were the exact opposite, done very nicely. My chorizo and juevos was fantastic, not greasy at all (which can be difficult to pull off) and tasted great. The "hot sauce" that comes in a squeeze bottle was very tasty and a good compliment to the eggs. The refried beans were the exact opposite of what another reviewer noted, they were soupy and just okay at best.

I will say that if I were to do it all over again, I would probably just order a couple of chorizo and egg breakfast tacos. But one visit doesn't provide enough information about this place's consistency, and my first visit was enough for the time being.

MY REVIEW: After seeing this on DDD, we drove the short distance to Bob's.

We had Tex Mex Plate, Pechuga De Pollo, kids beef taco and and guacamole salad. The chicken was wonderful, moist, came with only 2 tortillas, could have been more. They let me sub refried beans which were not what I was used to, they were real refrieds, with bacon grease and sorta crispy. I was pleasantly surprised, they were good. Hubby liked his plate, said the tamale had a lot of meat and a little mesa, and that was good for him. I personally like mine the opposite and with chicken or beef. We also got 2 fajita tacos to try and share with the baby, one chicken and one beef, I loved them both. The tortillas were wonderful, the salsa had a nice depth of flavor with and hint of smoke and a perfect blend of cilantro.

Now with all the nice nice out of the way, what I was not pleased with is the staff, not warm or welcoming, just not.. well almost emotionless. Like they are completely overwhelmed with the new found popularity. I would have assumed that was the case till I stopped at a local business and the lady told me she has heard those complaints over the years, not new. Also the guacamole was nothing more than mashed avocado. If that is what you are gonna serve, please call it that. I doctored it with lemons, because this "Mexican" diner didn't have limes.. REALLY? I had to ask for several things multiple times. Average prices, not cheap but not expensive.

I might be back, I just won't go out of my way to go there. Just a little tweek in the personality of the staff and this place could be outstanding. Seen the owner, sat 2 tables from us and never spoke a word to us, he was counting receipts or money or something. Not cool with a room full of people dining. If your are the face of a newly famous place, come out to the dining room, you need to circulate and meet customers.

MY REVIEW: I totally agree with Pam, our experience was exactly the same. Luke warm menudo, mediocre tacos... expensive considering the quality. Nice service and people and I'm happy for their success, but too many other good Mexican food spots to return. Bland, Bland, Bland.

MY REVIEW: I saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and thought it would be a great place to try. WRONG!... Dont get me wrong I think that in defense of "Bob" they were not ready for what Food Network did for them. My Sister and I drove in fro Houston to try this place and boy it was a major disapointment, first of all the line was out the door and judging from the other comments it's probably a usual occurence however, we thought that if the food was good that would make up for the wait & drive. I wanted to order everthing that Guy Fieri ordered from food network. I also went to their website and printed out the recipe for the Carne Guisada.(I will not be making this at home)

I ordered a small Menudo, it was luke warm and this is a mexican soup that is made to be eaten very hot. I also oredered a Tammale and it was acceptable, I oredered the Carne Guisada Taco and it was ok (I have had better)and I also ordered the Barbacoa taco which was also luke warm. THE BEST THING THERE IS THE CHIPS CASO & SALSA WHICH YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR, THAT SHOULD BE FREE CONSIDERING THE WAIT! overall the experience was NOT GOOD. "Dont believe the hype"

I will not be driving all the way back to Bob's for a experience like this!

I live in Houston and there is better tacos, Menudo and service where I usually go on Town Park and Corporate Dr., in the words of my sister if it aint broke dont fix it!

MY REVIEW: I know this place will be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives so I wanted to get in before it even gets more packed. My goal was to get soemthing that included those fresh, hot flour tortillas. So, I ordered something I normally would not order at a Mexican Restaurant. It is called Joe's Bowl and comes with charro beans and ground beef and two of those puffy tortillas that taste so good. This was a good choice for being a little on the chilly side, outside. It's reminds me a little of chili with the beans and ground beef but also has some bacon pieces, small pieces of bell peppers, cilantro and other assorted spices. I think an order of cheese on the side might really make this a good dish, even though without it was good, as well. You can order large or small bowl. The large bowl is a bargain at $6.49. For a place to close at 2pm every day; they must be doing something right.

MY REVIEW: Made it down to the legendary Bob's. I had an enchilada plate that was not bad...but kinda average. But...I also had a fajita taco. Wow...I could them everyday. The tortilla was one of the best this not so average white boy has had. I have heard the Carne Guisada is very good. I will try that next time.

MY REVIEW: If you have ever driven in an unfamiliar neighborhood and wondered where a good place to eat would be, then maybe you do what I do...look for the number of cars parked at a restaurant. That is usually a good indication of good food. I discovered Bob's just this way and I was not disappointed.

The place has a casual and comfortable feel to it. This apparently family owned eatery appreciates their customers and rewards them with some of the best tex-mex food I have ever had. The food reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. This is the only place that I have ever been to that offers jalapeno tortillas! Their salsa is great and the service is second to none. I especially like their Chicharron Guisado and Lengua tacos...a MUST try! I highly recommend stopping by to see for yourself.
