MY REVIEW: This was the best Indian food I've ever tasted. I had samosas, paneer with coconut sauce and for the entree - shrimp 65 masala - it was so delicious!!

I will definitely go there again and will also recommend it to people I know.

The service was excellent and our waiter was so accomodating. Thank you!

MY REVIEW: Lunch buffet food is great - meats, rice dishes, vegetables and dessert. Although I've taken southern Indian cooking courses, they make better naan and sag paneer. I'd stay 2 hours for lunch, eating and reading, if I didn't have a schedule. Wait staff will adjust music and leave you alone, when you ask. White cotton tablecloths and quiet ambiance make this a top choice. We always tip! because the pay of the wait staff is very low, as in most restaurants. Lunch buffet stops at 2 pm but they start closing it at 1:30 pm on week days.

MY REVIEW: This was our third time trying the lunch buffet. The 1st time was ok, the second time (two years ago) had horrible service and unfortunately this 3rd time was awful. The food was only so-so, I've had much better Indian food at other places, but what was bad about it again was the service. We never received napkins and waited ridiculous amount of time for water refills. I finally just went a put a pitcher on our table so we did not have to rely on someone to refill our glasses. I'd rather drive and enjoy I*ndia's on Richmond, it is by far the best in Houston. I will never go back to this place again.

MY REVIEW: The significant other suggested we go some place different. So a surfing I did go. Came across this web site and searched NW area. We settled on Dhakshin. Now being a compete novices with Indian food we were abit leery, but jumped in with both feet. The establishment was well kept, nice ambience and very friendly service. This is not your regular, "Mega-Buffet" but there were enough selections to give you a sample of what turned out to be excellent food. On a scale of one to ten ( ten being the top) we'd give this little place a solid nine. The food is really good. We will be going back for sure!

MY REVIEW: Have been there twice in the evening now and the service both times has been excellent. Brought 8 people from work to the lunch buffet and was impressed with the buffet, with tax was like $10. Service was great, water refilled promptly, plates cleared as needed. The staff is very friendly and professional. The ambiance is nice, the place is clean, the music is soft and pleasant.

The food is delicious, my husband and I have ordered different dishes to get more variety. The chicken is good quality, cooked very well, spices are just right and the mango lassi heavenly.

It's a great place for families, large groups, or just a quiet couple.

MY REVIEW: Dhakshin is an excellent restaurant with solid service and solid food. Portions are large - I always order far too much. I'd comment on specific dishes, but I'm just not that well versed in the tandoori/Indian cuisine. I typically eat a seafood dish with a garlic or butter naan and a bowl of soup. Always good, always clean, and always polite service.

MY REVIEW: I had passed down Cypresswood, going to/from work, for days seeing their sign. I decided to try it for lunch today. I have tasted some of the best Indian Cuisine ever in Perth, Australia. Let me tell you that this food was every bit as good.

My brother, an accomplished chef, and I met for lunch and sampled the Rasam soup (very tasty and spicy), Chicken Vindaloo (excellent and everything I was hoping it would be with just the right amount of heat), Lamb Curry (fantastic), Palak Paneer (delicious - if you like creamed spinach - try it) and the Vegetable Samosas. The portions were generous, service excellent and priced appropriately and the ambiance was nice (the place was clean and had some nice Indian music playing quietly in the background).

The lunch buffet looked good as well, but we wanted a more specific sampling.

I will definately go back and highly recommend the place.

Very Authentic!

MY REVIEW: I also have been going to Dhakshin's for years and the good news is that their buffet has improved immensely over previous visits (my last visit was about three months ago). Both the quality and the variety avaialable on the Saturday noon buffet were very good. Portions are frequently refreshed. Someone is definitely paying attention in the kitchen.

The Dhakshin buffet is northern cuisine with three tables: vegetarian/breads, nonvegetarian, and dessert/fruit/condiments. Heat level is mild. Good for those new to Indian food.

Vegetarian Table
The sambar lentil soup is thick and smokey flavored.Yes, try a small bowl of soup.

The eggplant and onions and tomatoes medley was to die for. A standout.2 helpings.

Saag Panner is very good and much improved.

A bean dish I did not try

No aloo gobi potatoes/cauliflower mix. Instead there was a yellow lentils and cabbage mix that was excellent. Never seen that anywhere else before.

Plain and spiced rice

Idli, donuts and naan bread. Naan was not as good as usual, scorched on outside, doughy on inside.

Non Vegetarian Table.
The real standout here is always the seafood. I don't normally associate "Indian" and "seafood" together but this tray is always a pleasant surprise. This time was a superb shrimp and pepper medley (shells left on). Excellent. Went back for seconds. The spiced fried fish has been excellent on previous visits.

The tandoori chicken was excellent. The chiken tikka massala was a tad bland.

Desert and Condiments
Yummy yougurht w/carrots & cucumbers to cool down with. A good contrast.

Just a dip of the lime pickle to mix in with rice. Seems homemade & not bitter.

The thin warm rice pudding was just OK . They also had a pastry and custard dish that was good.

Fruits
Added treat. Complimentary dosa with potato filling. The dhosa crust was superb, filling good (I guess you are supposed to add spices to this per preference).

Service was excellent. Restaurant was near full (noon Saturday). Equal mix of Indian and non-Indian customers.

Buffet is $12. Good Value.

Overall, the food is very good and reasonable value. I would recommend it for both newcomers and experienced diners. Still feel the need to drive into Houston occasionaly to eat at one of the premier restaurants, but this takes care of the other cravings.

MY REVIEW: Guys, I have been going to this place since Fall 2006 and have never been disappointed by the food. And yes, frankly the staff did annoy me couple of times. But again, on our revist the same staff gave good service.

Strong points--> Food is never bad, it has been Very Good almost 90% of the times. Yes, sometimes it wasn't really good but that was because of our timing.

Weak Points --> Get there early. Can get busy quick.

Specialities --> Awesome deserts, Real good veggie selection in buffet. Nonveg is delicious with lots of spice at dinner.

Ambiance --> Not bad at all.

MY REVIEW: First of all (Shelly H) I did not go when the restaurant was closed. I did when the restaurant was open at 9:15 pm and yes I do expect service at 9:15 pm. Isn't that what the sign says on the front door. So before you take a stab at me go back and read my post. Secondly, I have every right to critique my experience just as you do so lay off the finger pointing please. Thirdly, what difference does it make if I post my name. Alteast, I don't post under different names on the board. And finally speaking about names it not like your's is unique. How do we know you are not a fake or someone who actually works for or has an interest in the restaruant cause from the post it sures sounds like your are one of the staff/owner.

MY REVIEW: I have been going to Dhaksin probably once or twice a month ever since I moved to Spring Cypress back in 2004. The quality of the food and the service has steadily deteriorated over the past few years and their prices have increased.

In the beginning the food was superb and the service excellent however you don't get the same level of service any more. In fact the last time I visited was on a weekday and although they close at 9:30 pm refused to serve us when we walked in at 9:15 pm and insisted that we take the food to go. I finally convinced them (as if I was getting a free meal) and got my food cold. My wife food was also cold and a remark was past to the cook staff when our order was placed. They think we cannot hear what goes on in the Kitchen. This is just one of the incidents that ticked me off. I can go on and on.

That said I hope to see more Indian restaurant in the area.

MY REVIEW: A bit too expensive, and although you order mild food you still get very very spicy.

The first time I ordered although I asked for mild I had to throw out a few of the dishes because they were waaaaay too spicy!!!! The next times, I ordered limited dishes but still got very spicy, although I insist to get mild. I always take home so I cannot do aanything about it...

Other than that the place seems clean and the staff polite.

I probably still go there because I love indian food and I don't have a better place close to my home.

MY REVIEW: We order from this restaurant twice a week and love their food. I have a great friend from India and he went with us to the restaurant and said their food was excellent. The only problem is with the service. They always seem too busy. It takes a long time to get food so we usually do take out service. On the take out sometimes they don't always get the orders right. Even with the service issues, we still love this place!
