MY REVIEW: My husband and I have tried several times to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt...each time we have been disappointed....we agree with the other people...the service is so slow....the last and final time we went ...the restaurant had a handful of customers...we waited almost 45 minutes for OATMEAL! No more chances...sorry.

MY REVIEW: my first time there, just might be my last time there. i went in and ordered a greek salad. it was 1pm on a sunday, after the morning brunch crowd, my girlfriend ordered a hamburger. It took an hour and a half before we got our food!! They didn't have any clean knives, they didn't have anything left in the soda machine, they ran out of fries, actually, they brought out fries, all 5 of them. I can understand if things were busy, but there were only a handful of people in the place. What really made me angry was while we were waiting for our food I looked over and saw the staff sitting at the bar eating their food, food that they ordered from the kitchen that was supposed to be making our food, it was ridiculous. and then to top it all off, someone came in with their dog, they actually let the dog free in the place while the lady was waiting for her order to come out.

MY REVIEW: I went to study for an exam there after driving by many times. I have lived in the area for years. I thought it was just a coffee place so my belly was happy when I saw a mfood menu.
The cheese burger was freakin AWESOME! Just like mama cooked in the kitchen back in the days. I would say it was the best hamburger I have had in a long time.
I was a bit shocked at the high food prices ($9 bucks for a burger and fries was one of the cheapest things) but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Bottomless coffee kept my satisfied while my burger was made up fresh.

MY REVIEW: This was my second and last time to eat here. There were approximately 8-10 people already seated and it was about 45 min after opening. The service was extremely slow; my table, silverware, and coffee cup were dirty; and the food was served cold. The service was slow (it took several minutes to take a single order) because the person taking orders was trying to do everything while others just stood around like they didn't know what to do. The tables looked like they hadn't been cleaned from the day before. The outside of my coffee cup was covered in syrup and my silverware had dried food on it. How can you roll silverware in a napkin and not see food on it? I don't see why people continue to eat here.

MY REVIEW: This place rocks. It has the best breakfast we have found in Houston--maybe next to B*rennans. If you want good hollandaise, bacon, eggs & real hash browns (with onions!), they have it. Their lunch is extremely good, too. If you want wonderful cheeseburgers & meatball sandwiches with home made french fries, they have it. If you are more health conscious, they have great cereal, ripe fresh fruit, muffins (baked each morning) and wonderful salads. As to wait staff, the regulars are really friendly. We have had one very impersonal waitress, one time. Haven't seen her since.

MY REVIEW: This was my first time here for breakfast. I have been here with my husband when we have had a craving for good coffee since they serve Katz. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was great! Very rich! I also ordered the jalapeņo cheese grits for my choice of sides, they should be illegal they are so good! I probably could have just had a plate of grits! The staff was friendly. Please give it a try!

MY REVIEW: This place sucks. We go in and walk up to order - the staff behind the bar just look at each other like they've never had a customer. Finally placed order and took a seat. Then we proceeded to wait over 30 minutes only to get the something we didn't order. One of the entrees, a waffle, wasn't ready yet! We order three breakfast plates, 2 adults and 1 child, and it was too much for them to handle. It was greasy, wrong, bad service. I'll never go back. I'll say it again, this place sucks. I don't know what the hype is. If you like rude people and to get items you didn't order, this is the place for you!

MY REVIEW: I live very close to the DG, and it's always packed, so it *must* be good, right? My friend and I went on Sunday at noon (breakfast crowd seemed to be dying down). First thoughts were that it was very cute, great atmosphere, the selection of coffee was nice, seems like a cool place. HOWEVER. My friend got her food (omelet) pretty quickly... Waitstaff came by and cleared the table next to us, chatting with us... 20 minutes go by (Meanwhile, I see other diners that got there after me getting their food, including the exact waffle I ordered)... Same waitstaff walks by our table, it's pretty clear I don't have my food and they don't really seem to notice/care. So, I head up to the service counter and see a waffle (my waffle?) sitting there. I ask about it. She says "Oh, we lost the service ticket for that one." I tell her it's mine - she says "it's cold," and turns her back to me. I ask if I can have it, and she says "yes, but it's cold." So, I take it, and I ask for utinsels. She hands me a fork. I ask for a knife (I have a waffle...?) and she tells me they are out of knives. I understand that tickets get lost, and sometimes all the utinsels are dirty... but an apology would have been nice. Seriously.
Of course the waffle was cold, and I guess that made it soggy. The fruit on it was good, and my friend liked her (also now cold) omelet. I liked the atmosphere, and it's convenient, so maybe I'll be back. Or maybe I'll go somewhere with better service.

MY REVIEW: The breakfast is very good. Get there early on weekends. Hamburgers homemade and excellent. Fresh salads-not out of a bag. No real dinner menu, unless you want a sandwich or pasta.

MY REVIEW: I've never had a problem with the service. It does get extremely busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings so I avoid the crowd and simply go some place else. The food is pretty good most of the time. I like that you can pick and choose your ingredients for your pasta and not get charged extra. Once the chef came out and apologized for overcooking the pasta (I actually prefer my pasta over cooked), and gave me a free piece of cake to make up for it. And another time, they forgot to give me my tea and when I said something, I not only got my tea but a $10 gift card. Even when they make mistakes, they have admitted it and corrected for it. I give them thumbs up.

MY REVIEW: I have never had a problem with the service at the Daily Grind. I dine there atleast once a week if not more. The food is great! The Muffalatas are fantastic and the spinach salads are to die for. In my opinion they have the best french fries in Houston. They are crispy and always perfect! ALL my friends love them. I never leave without getting my blueberry muffins to go for breakfast the next morning.

MY REVIEW: Two eggs over easy - one was, one wasn't. Bacon was advertised as thick and crisp, which it was, but it was also cold and greasy (not in a good way). English muffin, toasted at some point, but served soggy and without butter or an offering of any. Potatoes - tasted okay but seemed rewarmed. Waffle with bananas and strawberries - served dry, no whipped cream or an offer of any. As for the fruit - strawberries were fine, but half of the banana pieces were brown from being overripe. Coffee - most pots were empty, I chose the one that wasn't, it was tepid at best. Wait staff - the negative points in the previous reviews said it all.

MY REVIEW: This old country store used to be a favorite haunt, but after my last visit, no more. The "waitstaff" are basically order-takers -- they are NOT interested in serving you. On my last visit, after working my way through one of their gummy undersauced pasta dishes, I was unable to get the attention of the staff members on duty -- they were too engaged in conversation and oblivious to the needs of customers. The owner himself has told me "we are a cafe FIRST, internet place second" but they aren't even that anymore. It's become a second home to business type who camp out for hours meeting clients, hogging tables to do their "homework" and talking loudly on cellphones. Eating a meal here seems like an imposition on these busy folk.

MY REVIEW: i'm just responding to the folks below who blast this place for their bad service. granted, the wait staff at the daily grind can, at times, be careless and even brusque. but they do not, as someone below did, deserve to be compared to the slick staff over at c*andelari's with their pasted-on smiles and corporate-clean dress code.
i regularly go to both places and very much enjoy the food at both places; but the daily grind is, in my opinion, more the kind of place we need badly in the heights. the food is from first to last outstanding and impressively varied; the hours are long; the owner is a real, genuine, affable person; and the staff, while at times overworked, absent-minded, and careless, is composed of people of all ages and backgrounds, who are not following some business manual in their attitudes towards customers. this place deserves lots of support.

MY REVIEW: Everyone here really does know my name. I eat here frequently with several of my friends. Their breakfasts are great. I recommend the Migas, which are outstanding. Get the half order. It's big enough to fill me up and still have leftovers. They have a great coffee selection, wonderful food and fun atmosphere. The waitstaff can be a little quirky sometimes, but they really are friendly. Ask for Lee, he's the best. I'm sad to see the poor reviews. This place is worth a visit, especially for breakfast.

MY REVIEW: Great ambience. Great staff. Fantastic food, especially the build-your-own pastas (try the pesto!) and salads (spinach with blueberries, cranberries, feta, walnuts, oh my!). It's our second office in the mornings - free wifi, great coffee & tea, and tasty breakfasts. The owner supports local musicians, too - call first, but right now it's Mon, Wed, & Thurs nights.

MY REVIEW: The atmosphere is nice and I have had decent service on all of my visits. I really like the Veggie Muffalata, the avocado makes it great! But even better than lunch is the breakfast. The omelette is big and very good. It is sometimes difficult to find a menu (they have only had one breakfast menu on my visits) which makes it frustrating to place an order. They don't have much on the menu so I would suggest for them to have a menu board instead of the hard-to-find traditional menus.

MY REVIEW: I went because I thought it was going to be a relaxing cafe to have a capuccino and chat. I was a bit disappointed. The service was poor and a waiter was yelling/cursing to the kitchen staff in front of us because he was mad at them. Smelled smokey and greasy. I will not go back.

MY REVIEW: The service can be very bad at times, however there are some items on the menu I like very much so I make sure I go when the place is almost empty. Several of my friends ablsolutely hate the place, but still go there because they like the salads.
Where else can you get a chicken fried pork loin sandwich?

MY REVIEW: This is my dinning room / second office. I love the food and the variety. Easy going, friendly and open. Many types of people and completely different feel depending on the time of day. Love those Greek Omelettes.

MY REVIEW: Went back again this past Sat. night. Gosh - the place looks so good.....but the service continues to be bad. Menu selection poor and the frosting on the cakes hard / chewy. The tea / coffee didn't seem very fresh and the people working don't show any interest in the customers. Don't make them feel welcome, valued or appreciated. So - why go back when there are so many other options within a mile or two?????

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is off my list. We gave it a second try today after a walk at Memorial park. The first time they lost our order and they lost our order today, also. We brought it to the attention of one of the servers (after watching everyone else get their food) and they filled the order, but no one ever apologized. Too bad, since the food is good and the people watching is fun. We live in the Heights, so I am so sad to say another desperately needed restaurant is just not working out. C*andelari's is off our list, too, because of the same reasons. Service issues!

MY REVIEW: I was a regular patron of this place until this last time. I went alone to do some studying, and was asked to leave after an hour because I had not spent enough money there. I bought a latte and was planning on getting some food but did not have the chance. It was a terribly embarassing experience, and I was completely devalued as a customer.

MY REVIEW: On my first visit last Fri. night, I ordered an item, paid at the counter. Shortly after I was informed that they didn't have that item. I ordered a different item that they did have and although it cost less - I was not refunded the difference. Had already put a nice tip in the tip jar at the counter too. :( The coffee wasn't very warm either. What a shame cause it's such a cute place. Very warm & cozy for the Holidays.
Went back this past Sunday night to give it another try. They only had one type of iced tea which didn't taste very good. I ordered a salad which had a very small portion of chicken breast on it and the Ranch dressing was noticably out of a bottle. Ewwwwww.
I'll probably give it another shot - but if I have one more not so good experience it will be their 3rd strike.
