Profile Description: Are you familiar with "stacked" enchiladas made with red or green chile - or maybe half and half? Maybe with blue corn tortillas and maybe with a fried egg on top? Do you associate the names Hatch and Chimayo with this special delicacy? Do you remember green chile on a hamburger? How about sopaipillas? If any of this sounds familiar, you will be happy to know that you can find it all at SANTA FE FLATS, NEW MEX GRILLE right here in Houston, Texas!
MY REVIEW: The last two negative reviews had to have been written by the same person. There can't be two people capable of the same level of inane commentary. Why does this reviewer go to a New Mexico restaurant to critique mashed potatoes and Mexican Food? Me thinks an ulterior motive.
Perhaps if she tried the specialty plates she might like the food, especially if she has any familiarity with New Mexico cuisine. As a long-time customer I am biased. I have never had any crusty rice, and the mashed potatoes on the non-New Mexico plates with which they are served are wonderful. However, I must admit I have never ordered the mashed potatoes with the green enchiladas, or the red enchiladas or the Posole or any of the other New Mexico entrees. Santa Fe Flats is a consistently good restaurant with excellent food.

MY REVIEW: Again, The rice was not hot, did not have any flavor, but it was crunchy; if you like crunchy, hard rice. On the good side, they did offer mashed potatoes. But, mashed potatoes does not go well with Mexician food.

MY REVIEW: Santa Fe Flats has the best margaritas in town and at a price that is unbelievable ($4.50 for a 12 ounce glass). Even if the food wasn't as good as it is, I would drive across town for their margaritas. The happy hour price is a steal. Problem is the bar fills early. Good place to have a couple with friends.

MY REVIEW: SantaFe Expat is right on! How can you bad-mouth a New Mexico restaurant for having unauthentic New Mexico food if all you eat is their Tex-Mex patter--which,incidently, I think is excellent. Reviewing a restaurant's specialty foods before you have expierienced them reminds me of a Paula Abdul tactic. Anyone who has really been to the famous restaurants in Santa Fe, NM knows that the Santa Fe dishes at “The Flats” are as good or better.

MY REVIEW: The food at Santa Fe Flats is both authentic and superb. I think the previous reviewer must be comparing Santa Fe Flats food to the food served in Santa Fe Texas (just outside of Alvin). Santa Fe Flats is a New Mexico style restaurant because they serve dishes normally served only in New Mexico. The fajita plate the reviewer ordered is genuine 100% Tex-Mex---no doubt about it. Alvin area restaurants serve fajitas but they don’t serve New Mexico food. Why would a "connoisseur" of New Mexico food order fajitas (admittedly Tex-Mex) instead of the restaurant’s signature flat red or green enchiladas made with the fabulous New Mexico chili referenced (but not ordered) by the reviewer? And spicy rice--as in chili hot?-- in New Mexico plates? Maybe in Santa Fe Texas but not in Santa Fe New Mexico. Only the readers of this previous review are being "deceived" (sic).

MY REVIEW: Weak restaurant: Negatives:
Tried the fajita platter- ordinary. Nothing special. Tortillas- Hello????? They weren't even hand made....Not authentic tasting.
Rice- Bland; if you've ever been to Santa Fe...you'd know they would never make their rice this mild.
Positives: Beans- fairly tasty actually. Guacamole- fresh and tasty Salsa and Chips- Salsa were tasty but very mild; good fresh and crisp chips.
Overall- The ambience was beautiful, the service was great, the food needs major improvements! They could make it more authentic by actually serving food from Santa Fe, not Tex-Mex food! (Not even quality Tex-Mex food!) When you think of Santa Fe, you think of spicy, all the rich flavors of the many chiles they produce. My tastebuds were decieved!

MY REVIEW: The food here is excellent. We live in Spring and do not get to the Willowbrook area very often. We drove by and decided to stop in. What a treat! I tried the Green Enchiladas, which were the best that I've had since a visit to New Mexico over 10 years ago! Keep up the good work.....we'll be back.

MY REVIEW: Strong Points- GREAT FOOD at a great price!! My wife and I eat here every friday night. We get Fajitas, small queso and a maragrita each- cost us about $25 plus tip. You really can't beat this place. And the service is terrific too.
Weak Points- I can't think of any. Its a great resturant.
One great addition that sets this place apart from others is the live music. Being from Austin, I love live music. This place has great music that sets a great ambiance. Its best when they have one musician by the name of John playing a spainish gutiar.

MY REVIEW: The house salad dressing is the best I have ever had. The head lady at Santa Fe Flats says its "only vegitable oil, vinagar, green chili and a few spices." Right! I would buy it by the gallon if I could. The rest of the green chili dishes are also very special. Wish it were closer in.

MY REVIEW: The posole here is wonderful! It's made with New Mexico red chili just like it is in Las Cruces, my hometown. It's not made with pig's feet like the traditional recipe but the tender pork meat used in Santa Fe's recipe is a good second best ingredient. We love this little bit of New Mexico in our great state of Texas.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: absolutely fresh food, squeeky clean, fine quality beef, the best house Margaritas(BIG)in town ($1.50 during most hours of operation), elaborate (and free) salsa bar, perfect Santa Fe New Mexico ambiance, good service, moderate pricing, a true family restaurant hosted by its friendly Torres brothers proprietors. Weak points: expect a wait for a table during peak dining times. Specialties: New Mexico food. I like it a lot; you probably will too.

MY REVIEW: Being from Arkansas, my husband and I know little about Mexican food and even less about NEW MEXICO food. We consider ourselves, however, good judges of the quality of food ingredients and the service with which it is presented, regardless of the genre. The food quality and service excel at Santa Fe Flats!
The restaurant was recommended to us by a fellow professor (a University of New Mexico alum). We had dinner at the restaurant while visiting friends in Tomball. What a delightful event that was! Everything about the place was perfect, including the surprising experience of red chili enchiladas with a fried egg topping. I ate until physical limitations for accepting more food into my body prevailed over my concious compulsion to take just one more bite. My husband raved over the green chili enchladas. Alas, though incomprable to all the world in so many respects, we have nothing in Arkansas to compare with these special preparations of exotic New Mexico ingredients. We will revisit Santa Fe Flats every time we return to Houston.

MY REVIEW: the food is allright and big improvement over Tex Mex.But it is not very authentic. No Carne adovada- whats up with Green chile and chicken in New Mexico it's pork and red/beef and green. No green chile stew, blue corn tortillas, stuffed sopapillas. Those are New Mexican. Good Green chile cheeseburgers. Guacamole is more Tex Mex than New Mex.

MY REVIEW: We went last night, because of reviews read on here- we've driven past it everyday forever. I LOVED it. I thought the nachos were great- different kind of cheese- kind of smokey and loaded with onions. We LOVED them.
I had the greee enchiladas and my boyfriend had the red. We tried each others adn we both liked what we ordered better. :) The green ones were really great... very spicy and LARGE. I ended up bringing half of it to lunch today.
Their rice was great and the service was wonderful too.
We will be back- since this is WAYYYYY different than just a normal mexican restaurant. We'll be back when we crave chiles!

MY REVIEW: This was our 3rd visit. My wife has always had one of the buritos. I has a fish special once and the green stacked ench. twice. On one visit we were with friends and on another we had two other guests. Everyone has always loved the food. You won't leave hungry. Service is also good. I expect to see another of these in a different part of town and eventually several more.

MY REVIEW: My family loves this place. We eat at SFF a few times a week. Our kids can shout out the specials by request at any time. I love the green chili enchiladas, and the burger. They did a bread bowl for a little while, and that was great with all the soups. My husband LOVES the green chili chicken fried steak with green chii cheese fries. I think we have tried everything on the menu and loved every thing we have ever tried. The margs are always terrific! Special or no special it's always a great price and product. The staff is awsome everytime we walk in. We enjoy the patio and the music. The kids think the sandbox is a great place to be when they are not eating. I say it's a "MUST TRY".

MY REVIEW: I'm from Albuqueque NM. I happened to see the Sante Fe Flats from Hwy 249 heading toward Tomball. I turned around and stopped for lunch. It was Fantastic! People have always told me I'm crazy to put a fried egg on top of an enchilada. My first experience was a good one. The service was OK, but the food was to die for.

MY REVIEW: In the past year I have been here three times. First time it was great. No one in Texas could ever beat the chili rellenos and cookies. Second time the chile rellenos were very small and the cookies were gone. The last time the chili rellenos and cookies were both gone. This time we had terrible and slow service. Drinks took too long to get, waitress was young and inexperienced, food was only ok. This place would never make it in New Mexico which is where I will now go as I will not return to Santa Fe Flats.

MY REVIEW: I had heard about Santa Fe Flats, but live in Pearland so when I was invited to play golf last November in a celebrity golf tourny. nearby I jumped at the chance to try it. Tyler the owner greeted me and recommeded something light since he knew I was golfing afterwards. The food was so good that after the tourny I didn't stick around to eat I drove right back to SFF and chowed down on some Killer Nachos and a Green Chile Burger. I wish he would open a location in Pearland so I can try everything on the menu. I highly recommend it!

MY REVIEW: AHHHH! New Mexico!!! Transplants from Albuquerque, NM, Santa Fe Flats fills in the gap between visits home! We LOVE New mexican food, and they do it as close to NM as can be found in an all Tex-Mex state! Thanks to Tyler & the gang! Keep up the good work! You should have kept giving free cookies with each bill - it was a nice touch!

MY REVIEW: I love New Mexico enchiladas and these are the best! Too much to eat at a single sitting but they save well and are almost as good the second time around. The restaurant has been very busy on both my visits but the service was great after a short wait for a table. If you haven't personally eaten at a traditional restaurant in Santa Fe New Mexico, dining at Santa Fe Flats will give you an authentic feel for the experience, including an outdoor eating patio. This restaurant gets my highest commendations for food quality, authenticity and service.

MY REVIEW: My husband and gave Santa Fe Flats a few chances mainly because of the awesome margarita specials and how conveniently close they are to our house. The past 2 times we have been more disappointed than usual with the food. I agree with the last review about the menu being limited and the food being bland, may I also add overpriced. The last time we went, it was 20 minutes before we got our drinks because of how understaffed they were, so the service can use some help. I tried to like this place, but I honestly can't say I do. I wouldn't recommend it.

MY REVIEW: Service is poor, food is bland and the restaurant is a bit on the loud side. The menu is lacking in variety but on this visit I decided to try the enchiladas which were covered with a red sauce which I thought had no flavor. I give the restaurant a 2 thumbs down.

MY REVIEW: TOTALLY AWESOME!! My husband and I dine at SFF about 3 or 4 times a week. We have a table with our name on it. ha. We have been visiting SFF for about a year and have never had anything that wasn't great. Great service by Enrique! The owner Tyler is always friendly and accomodating. Great food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere. Hole in the wall that I'm glad we tried. They serve the best Green Chili Hamburger (try it), Fajitas are always great and more than enough, Green Chili Enchiladas fantastic, everything is great. If you go on certain nights you get free Nachos on Tuesday nights with your meal, the beer is discounted certain nights and $1.00 margaritas on Wednesday nights and a great entertainer on Wednesday nights. Go listen to Robert! We sit outside even when it's hot, it's so nice and the music is great. There is even a small sand play area for the kids outside. A complimentary salsa bar, but the staff is so good about bringing it to you, so you don't have to get up. It's clean and we feel like family there. Even on my diet, I managed to lose weight eating there, because they offer you great steamed veggies if you chose instead of beans and rice and you can chose from flour, corn or wheat tortillas. Who offers all that anymore? We pray for continued success for Santa Fe Flats. Never get tired of it.

MY REVIEW: We've been regulars since the place opened. We like Tex-Mex, but my wife is from Arizona and we've looked for a place that serves the Arizona-New Mexico style dishes. This is the place. Tyler is friendly and helpful, the waitstaff is attentive and cheerful, and the food is the best. They willingly accomodate special requests and split dishes when you are not so hungry. We have tried many of the menu items, and have yet to be disappointed. We're back 3 or 4 times a week, and have been back for lunch and dinner on the same day. Tyler and family really know how to make you feel welcome and serve up some if the finest Arizona-New Mexico dishes you will find in Houston.
