Profile Description: Award-winning white tablecloth gourmet restaurant in the country, serving steaks, pasta, seafood; weekly Chef's specials. Carol's was the 2004 and 2007 Grand Champion at Houston Rodeo Uncorked. Decor is lodge setting, leather walls with local brands, local artists' art displayed. Full bar, exentsive wine list. Wine dinners every month.
MY REVIEW: Carol's is an excellant restaurant. Formal dining in a casual atmosphere. The staff treats each customer as if you are the only person present. The crab cakes and shrimp cocktail are wonderful. The tomato tower is exceptional, but only served when vine ripen tomatoes are available. Desserts are the best anywhere. The drive to Carol's at Cat Spring is definitely worth the dining experience.

MY REVIEW: Carol's is like something dropped from inside the loop Houston. If you like R*ainbow Lodge, you'll like Carol's. You walk in to a unique building, similar to an old log cabin, decorated with trophies of many glorious hunts. The leather-lined walls give it a rich feeling. Comfortable and appealing to the eye.
The atmosphere was so great, I hoped we wouldn't be disappointed in the food. We weren't! A couple of us started with a rich, flavorful tomato basil soup. We then moved on to try the NY Steak (special of the night). My wife and I split was must have been a 16 ounce tender piece of joy with crab. It was huge as well as excellent. The mashed potatoes, asparagus, and carrots made excellent sides. Father-in-law managed to finish his enormous chicken-fried steak himself. By the fact that the plate was cleaned, I know he liked it. Mom-in-law tried the chicken dressed with capers. It was great, but she eats like a bird, so we took some of hers and my wife’s home for another meal.
The wine list was long and impressive. Everything from inexpensive to big deal. We selected a California Zinfandel that accented the steak wonderfully.
Broadcast: If you live anywhere within fifty miles of Cat Spring, this is the place to go for special nights out! My only qualification is you can have plenty of special nights, because due to the reasonable prices and huge portions, you can afford to go once a week!
We look forward to returning to the greatest slice of fine restaurants that allow you to come as you are and leave with a fully belly and a smile.

MY REVIEW: Carol's at Cat Spring has knock your socks off dining and atmosphere. I take all my out of town guests and we've never been disappointed by either the warmth of the staff or the outstanding quality of the food. We especially like the fresh seafood (try anything with lump crab!) and the wild game, when available. Vegetarians won't feel like the red-haired stepchild with the heavy emphasis on fresh-from-the-farm vegetables prepared as only Doug can deliver. Ask about one of Carol's B&Bs and make a weekend of antiquing, golf, horses, and clean country air along with fine dining at Carol's. Carol has also started a Saturday market day with vendors selling local fresh produce... check it out... then stay for lunch!

MY REVIEW: We LOVE this place and feel so fortunate to have a fine dining experience in the country! We love our country cafes as well, but no place compares with the warmth, hospitality and ambiance of Carol's. Carol is almost always there and tries very hard to greet all her customers and to make sure they are enjoying their evening. Doug makes an effort to chat with customers as well when he can sneak out of the kitchen. I couldn't check "everybody knows my name" but Carol does! We have probably eaten there l0 times in the past two years. If our farm wasn't thirty minutes away we would be there more often! We had a fabulous time there last New Year's Eve.

MY REVIEW: What a wonderful way to spend Easter Sunday -- at Carol's. The first dining experience was on my husband's birthday (Dec. 23, 2004) along with his brother in for the holidays from Phoenix (who is a great culinary expert) Now our 2nd visit was on Easter Sunday and we brought our dear neighbor Bill, who it turned out knew Carol from a few years ago. What a wonderful Easter Brunch, the food was outstanding, the service again superb and even with the cold wind outside what a warm and wonderful time was had by us. Thank you Carol and Company for a memorable Easter Sunday.

MY REVIEW: We live in Bellville but are originally from Houston. Our last visit to Carol's was not up to their standard. We had my parents in from Kingwood and all four of our kids in from college. This was a friday night (3-11-05) around 7pm and we were celebrating birthdays. They ran out of bread and our food was not warm and took what seemed like forever to get to us. The waitress had her hair in her eyes each time she came to our table and seemed very confused. She was sweet though. For $300 it was not worth it to us to say the least.

MY REVIEW: We stayed at Carol's lodge / property which is how we discovered her restaurant. Let me just say the food was amazing the service was excellant and Carol herself even stopped by to see how we were doing. Catsprings will forever be on my list of "short vacation" spots in Texas.

MY REVIEW: What an awesome place and just a short scenic drive from Houston. Who would expect to find a 4/5 star restaurant in the middle of the country? Great wine selection, creative and delicious entrees, extraordinary desserts, and excellent service where the owner greets each and every table! From bison to duck, from veal and rib-eyes to catfish, Carol's has something for everyone. Even the kids menu is outstanding. From wine tastings to Sunday brunch, from the Italian Buffet to the all-you-can-eat ribs or crab, no one goes away unsatisfied. My favorites include the bison, the rib eye and catfish. You can't leave here without trying the praline sweet potatoe pie.

MY REVIEW: Austin County's best. Great country casual place with an innovative wine list. Doug's food and presentation are excellent, beef lovers try the Filet. Don't miss the Sunday Brunch.

MY REVIEW: We love this place and have come to expect an exceptional dining experience, but at the recent wine dinner the food was truly "over the top" as in incredible! Doug's creations had our table for 6 raving about each course as well as the pairing with the different wines from Alexander Valley Vineyards. The tuna tartare, the sweet potato bisque, the salad of duck, blood oranges and sweet cabbage, the veal entree, and the Panna Cotta dessert were truly a feast for the eyes as well as the most descriminating of palates. And, of course, the charming ambience of the country setting as well as the warmth and friendliness of Carol and her wait staff, completed the package.

MY REVIEW: Easy drive in from Houston, great food, good service, friendly and classy/casual atmosphere. The cat fish is always great and we love the bison. No one is ever disappointed and it is a special "find" to share with friends.

MY REVIEW: We have been to Carol's for Sunday brunches and dinners. It's always a pleasure - the food is excellent and the ambiance is relaxing, which is exactly the reason we head out to the country on weekends! Doug and Carol are both fun to talk with and make the restaurant a special treat. It's worth the short drive from Houston.

MY REVIEW: Perhaps one of the best kept secrets. The food is outstanding, service impecible, atmosphere relaxing. They went out of their way to make a salad just like my husband likes--no complaints just gladly did it on this was on our first visit. The menu is quite varied. You can get on their email list to get special events and dinners coming up.
We also attended a wedding where Carol's catered the dinner reception and the food once again was outstanding. It was set up so that all guests could move around easily. Was very impressed.
If you live in Houston it is not far from Sealy and well worth the drive. It makes a nice stop for a beautiful Sunday drive.

MY REVIEW: This was a very elegant, country restaurant with great food, wine and desserts. Totally not what I expected from a country restaurant. Service was wonderful, food was exceptional, especially the desserts. Praline Sweet Potato pie was to die for. Unusual entrees like Bison are not what you expect but are heavenly. Definitely worth a visit and not too far from Houston.

MY REVIEW: Doug's culinary ability is not to be equaled! The wine dinners feature original menus - things that Doug has tweaked to perfection! Who would have thought that Flan could be a delight!? We eat there 1-2 times a week. Having dined out in Houston for 20 years with the same frequency (1-2 times/week), Carol's is as good as, or better than, what Houston has to offer.
I especially love the Italian Wednesdays: $14.95 buffet - all you can eat - an incredible antipasta array, and 3 main meat dishes to choose from, with custom made pasta. Add a bottle of wine, and life is good! It's worth the drive in the beautiful countryside to be greeted by a very friendly waitstaff!

MY REVIEW: Quick, scenic drive from Houston. Fine dining in the country. I especially enjoy the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Grand Champion appetizer - barbecued scallops with grits and green chile broth - delicious! Bison steaks are grilled to perfection and the fish is always tastefully prepared. Fries are the best I've had anywhere. Desserts are awesome and include many choices - something for everyone.

MY REVIEW: This is a real oasis in the country for great food, wonderful wine selection and a homey ambiance that makes a diner feel welcome and appreciated by both the staff and management.
Try the wine dinners on the first Tuesday of each month. The menus are always creative and very reasonably priced for the value received.
