The mint chiffonade in the fruit salad was a great touch. We will be ordering from La Villette from now on for any further boxed meal needs. She had just returned from a holiday in Florence, and she brought Italy to us! We had Florentine steak with her own special Argentine chimichuri sauce, (which was incredible!), petite pois in an elegant olive oil, and baby fingerling potatoes. The second course was a field green salad with sliced peccorino cheese and outstanding preserved fruits on the plate (exactly as it is done in Florence. We finished with beautiful lemon curd tartlets, fresh rasberries and a sprig of mint. The service was exceptional. Mariquita brings great dignity and grace to the art of cooking and catering! With classical elegance and creative flair, Mariquita Combes creates the perfect dinner party. Recently we loved her chilled, creamy Vichysoise soup, Chilean Sea Bass with Argentinian zuchini squash terrine (grown in her garden!) and grilled baby tomatoes and shallots in a balsamic vinegar sauce. For dessert her poached pear with a delectable chocolate sauce and fresh mint leaves served on beautiful plates with pears painted on them left us all gasping! A truly memorable dinner! MY REVIEW: I believe La Villette's prepared foods to be exceptional in a very competitive and cluttered market. You will find then at Houston's farmer's markets. Several things to recommend: Chicken Liver Pate: Summer time in Houston is not my favorite season for pate. With that said- their pate is fluffy and light with several layers of sweet (onion and apple) that make it refreshing. Hummus: I grabbed a container for a trip to the beach. It was a lovely surprise- not garden variety hummus- it had a lemon finish that made it both light and savory in a new way. Pimento Cheese: They were out by the time I arrived for two weekends in a row. This is yummy comfort food taken to a new level. Hand grated cheese blended with peppers and a creamy mayo base. Bought on Sat. at the Urban Harvest market- it is always gone by Sunday at morning.
