La Frontera

MY REVIEW: Since moving to League City in 2008 we frequent this great Mexican restaurant often. My wife is from Corpus Christi and every Christmas Eve it is tradition to each pork tamales. The last several years the tamales were very good but this year it was very different story! All tamales were very bland, hardly no pork with way too much masa! All 4 dozen tamales were the same! Need to special order to find a some place new next year. However, we will be back for their normal menu Mexican items.

MY REVIEW: I agree with the other reviewers who describe the food as being an alternative to Tex Mex (which I love by the way). Today I had a combo plate. While the rice and refried beans were pretty much identical to what I've had in most Tex Mex joints, there were differences in 3 items---the biggest being a beef enchilada.
First of all it was made with handmade corn tortilla. Then, instead of topped with yellow cheddar cheese and chili gravy (like Tex Mex), it had queso fresco (white cheese, probably goat cheese). Different from my beloved Tex Mex beef enchilada, but excellent in its own right.
Then there was chopped, grilled pork folded into 2 of those outstanding corn tortillas with cilantro and onion. Very simple, very good. Lastly, a chicken quesedilla utilizing the corn tortillas and white cheese was tasty. Good place for a little change of pace. Kind of a dive, but the staff are welcoming.

MY REVIEW: This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is great. It's not your typical Tex-Mex fare, as it seems to be much more authentic, which is just a great change of pace from what you normally find. Everything I have had has been outstanding. The prices are very reasonable and it always comes out quick and hot. With a few dishes, I wish the portions were a little bigger, but the taste makes up for it. The service has always been prompt and friendly. I would recommend it to anyone.

MY REVIEW: Very good, attentive service. Food portions are big, inexpensive and it's delicious. What this little restaurant lacks in ambience it makes up for in excellent Mexican food. It also seems more authentic than other places. I highly recommend this place.

MY REVIEW: I have to say this is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, not just in this area, but anywhere. It's so reasonably priced, the food is good, and the menu items are more traditional than tex-mex. I LOVE the gorditas (they come with your choice of meat and I've had the fajitas and the barbacoa) and the milanesa (very thin, Mexican style "chicken fried" steak)is excellent as well-- and a PLATE LOAD of food for around $6. I wish they were closer to my home... I'd probably eat there at least once a week or more. There are so many things on the menu I'd like to try and the waitresses are very sweet and attentive.

MY REVIEW: WALK IN AND PICK YOUR TABLE. NO BOOTHS (THAT WE SAW). PLAIN AND SIMPLE DECOR, walk in and pick your table. no booths (that we saw). plain and simple decor, Nothing fancy with friendly, attentive service, not pushy or always on you. The food was pretty darn good and the portion size was the same. Normally I'm almost thrown out of Chinese buffets because I eat to much but I left pretty full. The fajitas poblanos taste good and I inhaled the smoke from the sizzling skillet too. The prices are great for the size. $23 for my wife and I.
We live in Dickinson and after all these yrs. we wonder what took us so long to try it out. You, go ahead, try it out. I don't think you'll be disappointed but if for some reason you are don't go back. Support your local businesses. they're not a franchise but a local family serving local families.

MY REVIEW: Back as promised to try other menu items. Seafood Sampler consist of grilled fish and shrimp, then fried fish and shrimp served with Mexican rice and fries. All were tasty and price is right at $10. Shrimp were advertised as jumbo, but were medium at best. Still, both were cooked just right. There were only 2 tables occupied during my visit mid-afternoon on a Friday. So I was a little surprised that the kitchen was slow, however all items were hot and nicely prepared. Waitstaff is always pleasant and competent. Will return to try maybe a pasta dish and then some Tex-Mex.

MY REVIEW: Even though it was 9:30am, I wanted to try lunch fare. No problem. Had my first taste of enchiladas mole. Don't have any thing to compare their version of mole to, but I thought it tasted good for a change of pace. Service is friendly and attentive. Expansive menu: from border favorites to dishes found more towards interior; seafood; to a couple of pasta selections. Good prices. Worth regular visits to try variety of dishes.

MY REVIEW: This is the BEST food and the variety is fabulous. There are traditional Mexican dishes, specialties of La Frontera, and fabulous pasta dishes with a Mexican flair. It is a family owned and operated business so there is great attention to detail. The tilapia is marinated before cooking to a crispy outside and tender flaky inside; the ribs are marinated in a marvelous sauce and grilled; the enchiladas Doņa Rosa are superbly filled with a variety of cheeses and meats; and breakfast is served all day. Prices are incredibly reasonable and there is now parking in front and rear in addition to a bumpy side lot.

MY REVIEW: The food is EXCELLENT I have had almost everything on the menu and loved each one. If you like Caldo De Res it is a must have there Menudo is great as well all of the breakfast tacos are excellent as well. The Barbacoa is terrific and the dinner plates are great too I recommend this small place to anyone who truly wants authentic mexican food! The parking is scarce so get there early and it doesn't seat a whole lot of people either I would say seating for about 30 is tops but the food is worth it LOVE IT LOVE IT see you guys there almost every Sunday after Church

MY REVIEW: If you want great authentic mexican cuisine, that is family owned and operated by people who care, then you will enjoy this place. Breakfast is outstanding... Dinner and supper is great dining in or take out. From the first day my family dined here we were treated with respect and kindness.
If you are looking for a high dollar plush place to eat you wont find it here ... but if you dont try it for a relaxing great meal where you can be yourself and leave with a smile on your face ... you are missing a treat.

MY REVIEW: Nice place that has opened in Dickinson between 517 and 646.
Parking is a bit scare and you will learn why when you get your meal. The food is fabulous! We have only been for breakfast, but we have been almost every weekend since they have opened. They served a traditional American fare for the xenophobic but the Mexican breakfasts are superb and reasonably priced. During our first visit we were looking to get a breakfast taco similar to one we get in Pearland at a traditional taqueria. The waitress listened to our description and had the cook attempted to replicate it. Although it was not the same, we went back the next day and we tried again. It was wonderful experimenting with all the different ingredients!
We try to eat there every weekend and we are moving our way down the menu. I will keep you informed of the progress.
Strong points- locally owned, fresh and various ingredients, chips and salsa
Weak points- parking
