MY REVIEW: Big Disappointment! - Based on the postive reviews, we drove out of our way to have a late Saturday lunch at the Silver Palace. Staff was friendly and location is in a good area across from West U. The restaurant decor was pretty basic, even for a Chinese buffet. The wait staff was eager to refill our ice tea and even brought extra lemons when we asked. The service was good.

The big disappointment was the food. There were a number choices, but not the variety of food we expected from the reviews. Nothing was terrible, but then again, few items rose above "decidedly mediocre". There was a pretty good crowd, so it wasn't a problem of low turnover. The food was soggy and for the most part, fairly tasteless. Compared to other Chinese buffets, the food was very slightly above average, but still mostly overcooked and flavorless. Not much variety in the entree selection, particularly in the Chinese food offerings, which were the biggest disappointment. I tried the beef and peppers, General's Chicken, spicy chicken and several other similar dishes. All the entrees were similar in taste and nothing stood out. Truely, an "all you care to eat" experience.

On the positive side, the green beans were crispy and had a good flavor. The crab puffs were generously filled. The sweet and sour sauce was a definite cut above the red glop you find most places. Kudos to Silver Palace on the sweet and sour sauce. The sushi selection was limited and unimpressive. The fruit selection was limited, but fresh and tasty. No flies, a real problem at a few big Chinese buffet restaurants! The place appeared very clean. The walnut brownies were the best of the desserts, with a good chocolate flavor and fudgey texture. At some Chinese buffets, most of the desserts are almost completely flavorless and even the brownies lack a discernable flavor. Most of the other dessert "treats" at Silver Palace are best avoided. The cheesecake had a very strange flavor and the flan was beyond bland. We both agreed with previous reviewers that the soft-serve ice cream is much better than average. However, good brownies and soft-serve don't come close to justifying a second visit. When I have to focus on the brownies to say something positive, something was really off with the rest of the meal. We will not be making a return visit to Silver Palace.

MY REVIEW: Visited this place a few times and recently wanted to rent the party room for 20 people. Manager was not accommodating at all, even after I offered to have my event on the night of their choice (slow night). I guess the recession it's hurting them at all - they can afford to turn down a party of 20!

MY REVIEW: I like this Chinese buffet. The food is dependably good. I usually get seated VERY quickly, but on Sundays, there may be a few minutes of waiting because this restaurant is quite popular, and for good reason! With over 100 menu items, if you can't find several things you really enjoy, then you're WAY too picky!

MY REVIEW: I wanted to try this place today after reading the reviews here, but it was a total disappointment. Although it has a wide variety of different dishes, the quality was not so good. The food was cold and tasted weird. I won't go back to this place again. I don't understand why it has good reviews here.

MY REVIEW: Kid approved. Anytime we ask the kids where they want to eat, this is the place. There is something for everyone. We even used the party room for my daughters 10th birthday. The staff is always polite and helpful.

MY REVIEW: Chopsticks down, this is the best buffet in H-town! Hey that rhymes! I love coming here. My favorites are the cold boiled shrimp, and the steamed mussles. Lunch buffet is 6.99. They fill your ice tea any chance they get so cover it up on your way to some more of the best buffet in H-town.

MY REVIEW: This is the best chinese restaurant buffet in Houston! The food selections are excellent, the restaurant is always clean and comfortable, and the staff offers excellent customer service. My family and I usually eat at Silver Palace at least twice a month.

MY REVIEW: Excellent..Excellent. I went to silver palace because of the reviews posted here, and I honestly have to say that the food is great. I was greeted right away and the waitress sat me down and took my order and I couldnt wait to try the buffet, it was all very good. I loved it all. There are no complains here on my behalf. The tea was great too, fresh and sweet. I would have to say that my favorite food item on the buffet was the spicy chicken and the baked chicken. deeelicious. I'm going again tomorrow for sure. It does get packed but now I know why..

MY REVIEW: This is the place to go if you know nothing about Chinese cuisine and need to learn, say, before going to a 'sit down' place. They have a wide variety. I love to eat all the shrimp I want on the salad bar, then try a few dishes. Always excellent veggies that even the kids will want. I mix the soups together from time to time but I do like the hot and sour best. Once I was feeling low and had just the soup and perked right up. Love the rice crispy bars on the dessert bar. The staff pays attention to single eaters and families equally. I always get my money's worth even if it just soup.

MY REVIEW: Today was my first visit but it won't be the last. The prices are excellent, the restaurant is spacious and clean, and the food and service are really good. I was impressed by the selection and taste. So often I go to a Chinese buffet and the food is dripping with oil, but not here. Everything was savory without being laden with grease. I wish they had a vegetable eggroll or spring roll, but I can't complain.

MY REVIEW: In my opinion, this is the best Chinese food buffet that I've ever been to. food is tasty and hot (never cold, or even lukewarm) and I've never seen them run out of something. They also have quite a bit to choose from. Place is always clean and the wait staff always clear plates away quickly and keeps beverages filled. I've never seen the place will less than 1/2 of the tables full. Will definitely return.

MY REVIEW: The food is fabulous, the service exemplary. This is the first place I went went I got my apartment. The only drawback is their sushi bar. They only have about have about six types and should expand it a little. The desserts, especially the cheesecake is beyond compare. People who love to be surrounded by rich, Oriental opulence will love this place.

MY REVIEW: There's overall a lot to choose from, however if you're vegetarian, like me this might not be the best place for you to go to. They do have some vegetable choices, even saw tofu once, however the taste is far from delicious. On the other hand, if you're really hungry you'll definetely find "something". Plus they do have a big variety of fruit, and all kinds of cakes -they do have a very good cheescake. And the ice cream suprisingly is very good(:
