MY REVIEW: Japaneiro's is by far my favorite place to eat EVER, and I am a picky eater! The sushi is always fresh and well made. The rolls they offer are both tame as well as adventurous, and there are many options! I have tried the majority of the rolls and they all taste wonderful. I do not recall ever having bad service and have never had to wait to be seated (but note I have never been here with a party of more than 5 people). Staff is always friendly and happy to meet your requests. If I ask to be seated in a specific area, or for extra sauce (because it's THAT good), they are always happy to comply. Atmosphere is modern and laid back. If you don't feel like dressing up, you don't have to.

MY REVIEW: I have always eaten their food and enjoyed it. Decided to take my friends to actually dine at the place. We got seated promptly, for it was not busy. But after waiting 15 minutes, no server came. I got up and went to the hostess who said ok. then after 5 minutes a server came. she was nice. the food is actually good, but first impressions are key, in my opinion. i guess i should have just stuck to ordering at the office instead of dining.

MY REVIEW: The food is well prepared and tastes great. The rolls are made to be enjoyed by novice sushi eaters as well as people who eat it 1-2 times a week, which I do. There isn't anything I've tried on this menu that I do not like.

What this restaurant lacks is good customer service. I live in Houston and travel to go to this restaurant due to the great food; however, it doesn't matter what night of the week you go if you don't have a large party you do not get seated. They assume that parties of 2 or 3 would like to sit in the bar or at the sushi bar. I prefer neither. The wait staff is inexperienced as a whole and otherwise oblivious. The last visit they ran out of menus?! Hostesses are often flustered and/or preoccupied with other staff members. This restaurant needs proper management.

I will not hesitate to travel and spend money for great sushi, but the ONLY thing that makes this restaurant different than some of the great places in Houston and even further south towards Galveston is the poor service.

MY REVIEW: I think that people often write reviews after a bad experience, and never after a good one. Let me just say that I have eaten here AT LEAST 100 times and it is the most awesome sushi restaurant ever. It is popular and so it can get crowded, esp thurs-Sat. BUT! It is worth the wait. Portions are good, food is excellent, fish is fresh. I would highly recommend it! The best thing is that if you love sushi and your friend doesn't, you can still go! There are plenty of other interesting menu items. ***** 5 stars!

MY REVIEW: I can't believe people are complaining about waiting!! or REAL sushi, i'm a regular customer and i can say that does not happen often. Unfortunately there is just one japaneiro's and there's a lot of people that love their food!!! I DO!!!!Their sushi is fresh and the best part is the latin fusion, last week was there, our waitress recommended a roll that combines red snapper tempura with fried plantains!!! it sounds crazy but after i tried it, i loved it! If you feel like going, ask for recommendations and I personally think that the atmosphere is great, i love their bartenders and their huge fresh mojitos!

MY REVIEW: Excellent food, very friendly service and nice decor. I enjoy eating there sooooo much that I craved it with my last pregnancy even though I could barely eat. I usually go around lunch time and order their lunch special (always take some home, the portions are huge) and the staff makes me feel at home (maybe they don't know my name but they know my face and greet me very politely).

My favorite place to eat and celebrate any special occassion. Keep up the GOOD WORK!!!!!!

MY REVIEW: My friends and I (typically 4-6) have frequented this restaurant on Friday night for severl years. Unfortunately, despite the food being very good, we will no longer go. In the past we called and received a reservation for around 7:00 p.m., which was always honored. A few months ago, they stopped taking reservations. We were diappointed, but we understood the problem as the place became more popular. Last night, despite the "no reservation policy", we showed up about 7:00 p.m. and two large tables were being held for "friends of the owners." The wait was 45 minutes to an hour. This was the second or third time this happened. This is no way to treat good customers who use to spend about $200/week. When Japaneiro's decides whether or not they really want to take reservations, we will go back.

MY REVIEW: We ate the lettuce wraps for starters, and we found the minced chicken expertly prepared and the sauce that comes with it was divine! The miso soup was perfectly seasoned, and then our sandwiches (the pork tenderloin and grilled salmon) were also, quite delicious. The portions are very large and although we're hearty eaters, we were unable to finish everything.

We enjoyed this restaurant. Our server was a very friendly and cheerful, young lady.

Kudos!

MY REVIEW: Wow, surprised to see the bad reviews here lately. I've been going to Japanieros since it opened, and have never had a bad experience. Sushi is always fresh and excellent. I love the newer rolls (Gecko is one of my faves) they've come up with recently.

Good Kirin beer on tap too.

MY REVIEW: Japaneiro's is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to! Everytime I come in it gets better and better! I have been there a few times, but I must admit this last one was the best ! To begin with our waitress, maria, was great! She explained dishes clearly and in a very friendly manner. The new wine list and sushi rolls list are both great additions. There is certainly alot to choose from and as we tried the Shaggy Dog roll and an escolar roll we were pleasantly surprised. It was one of the best dinners I've ever had!

MY REVIEW: Strong Points: Friendly service and waitstaff are also friendly. Good atmosphere also.

Weak Points: Sushi and Sashimi. Their sushi is faux and it is americanize. Food Sucks. Prices is outrageous.

I recommend for sushi is M*atsusaka, M*iyako's, and Sushi R*ock.

MY REVIEW: We've gone to this restaurant multiple times since the Town Center area has opened in Sugar Land. Each time we go, the service get shoddier, and the portions smaller. Case and point, when we first tried the salmon tostadas, there were 6 per dish, yesterday (01/31/2006) there were 4. The rolls were loosely put together, and on previous occasions the battered cooked sushi roll (Cabo San Lucas) was undercooked and the batter still wet, and we've been given the wrong order a few times. We're now looking for a new place to be regulars at, but just wanted to pass our 2 cents along that this establishment started out great, but has since been continually dissappointing.

MY REVIEW: We've tried many of the dishes and they are good. I save "excellent" for really fine food, which so far has been a bit elusive. Nevertheless, I return because it is good, not necessarily bad, and there is little options in Sugar Land for this type of fusion food.

My only observation is that fusion cuisine is a tricky art, if to realize the full effect of taking the best of both cuisines and creating a harmonious marriage. If not done correctly, you end up with something that neither reflects Japanese, nor Latin, and that fails to shine either way.

Nice avocado soup.

MY REVIEW: We've been 3 times to Japaneiros, sampled much of the food, each time hoping the food would be better.

It hasn't improved! It's not bad, but it is nothing more than mediocre. And for the price, it is just not justifiable. There are many other better choices such as S*ushi Rock in Sugar Land for Sushi, or B*istro Artistico for fine French - Latin influenced food.

Bottom line: Good decor but it outshines the food. PS Look out for Mi L*una coming to Sugar Land Town Square soon... watch out Japaneiros.

MY REVIEW: Oy-vay. My family and I tried this place two times and both times the food was just mediocre. For the price of their sushi, we expected more, but nope. This is not good sushi nor authentic. Their sushi is too ameriacanized or latinized. I will not go to this place again. Try O*ishii, cheap, good, and fresh.

MY REVIEW: Since we no longer live in Houston, I had not heard of Japaneior's. However, our nephew lives near Japaneior's, so we went there with him the beginning of December. What a wonderful surprise. Everything was great, i.e. the food, the service, the atmosphere. I recommend a visit, because you will keep going back.

MY REVIEW: My family and I had a wonderful experience at Japaneiro's last night. That was the best South American food we have ever had. If the sushi was any fresher, then I would be talking with the fish. The desserts were delicious, the server was friendly, and the wine list was excellent too. We all enjoyed it and will definitely be returning!

MY REVIEW: My family (7 of us) went for dinner. My parents were in town for the holidays and we went with my husband and our two kids, my brother, and my parents. The waiter was somewhat unfriendly. When we asked for 3 waters, he only brought two. When ordering dinner, he just skipped over the kids and started to walk away. I had to say something to him because we weren't done ordering! He would never have taken an order for the two children. They didn't seem like they wanted children around...at least our waiter didn't.

My meal and my husbands were both good. My mom and dad did not care for theirs and my brother's was just o.k. There fried food is not very good and if you want real japanese food, this is definitely NOT the place to go. Much of the menu is more latin and less japanese. And the japanese food is not so good with an exception for the sushi. The restaurant is loud. Don't go if you are looking for a quiet restaurant. There are alot of other places I'd rather go for the price. If you want a foo foo place that's is over priced, then this place is for you. I won't be going back!

MY REVIEW: I visited this restaurant for the first time today with my co-workers. We were very pleased with the service and the food was the best I've had in Sugar Land. We will definitely be returning soon and will highly recommend this place to family and friends. The prices were very reasonable. Excellent lunch menu. Very fun atmosphere!!! I hated to leave...

MY REVIEW: I just got back from this place and all I can say is WOW! My family and I decided to give it a try since most of the reviews on here were positive. Let me start by saying, "I never have to drive into Houston for good Sushi again!"

We ordered the Chef's Nirvana for 4 and our eyes just about popped out of our head when we saw the two massive plates of sushi/sashimi they brought to our table. While the Nirvana is the Chef's choice, one of the great things about this place is you can tell them if there is anything that you do not want in the combination, such as Octopus. While the price isn't cheap (almost $20/person) the amount of food you receive is more than most sushi restaurant's combos. We were so STUFFED after the Nirvana that we scrapped our plans for desert.

The restaurant itself had a very nice atmosphere. You have the option of sitting inside or outside on the patio. They had some nice Latin music in the background and waitstaff was super friendly. Our waiter was attentive to our every need.

In summary... WE LOVED IT. We can't wait to go again and see what we get the next time we order the Chef's Nirvana. Great job guys!!!

MY REVIEW: Japaneiro's has a fun, lively ambiance and trendy decor. The sushi is always extremely fresh and the portion sizes are quite generous. The avocado cream soup is rich and delicious, the veggie tempura is crispy - not greasy, and the chicken pepito is unbelieveably juicy! The latin music adds a special flair to the ambiance that is rarely found in SugarLand restaurants. I have found the waitstaff to be extremely personable and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that my experience is a good one. The wine list is extensive and the bartenders are generous when pouring me a glass. Sometimes, the bartenders/waiters remember what my "usual" is and bring it over before I even order it! Also, they are always creating new and tasty drinks for me to try out. Overall, my experiences at Japaneiro's have been wonderful ones and I will keep coming back. Every dining companion that has accompanied me has been pleased with their experience as well.
