MY REVIEW: We visited her several years ago and had drinks at the bar and also came when it was a H*ouston's location. To be truthful the last visit caused me to decide to just have drink and eat somewhere else based on the menu prices. The restaurant does not have the reputation or decor for upper end dining, but their prices reflect a place that does. Entree's in the mid $20 and up are not why I came here. If I wanted to pay that, then I'd go to E*ddie Vs or F*lemings or even H*ouston's. They also botched the bar tab and overcharged me on a drink.

MY REVIEW: We had excellent service and the food was terrific. A little pricey but good sized serving. I left so full, I could barely walk.

MY REVIEW: For the most part I love J's, I grew up in west Houston and I'v been going there since it was one of the H*ouston's locations, so for me every time I step in there it brings back some childhood memories. I rarely sit in the main dining room simple because it is a bit impersonal, however the bar is the complete opposite, they've got a great team of bartenders who I always seem to have great conversations with as well as a killer manhatten, and Shiner Bock on draft. They have a pretty good wine list thats very competativly priced, and they frequently do wine flights.

Now as for the the food, they never let me down, I always always always get there mac and cheese, its what i imagine heaven is like, and with as many calories the stuff has it might just help you get there a little bit faster. Another one of my favorites are the ribs, they're perfect in all rights and respects. There served along with the tequila beans and cole slaw that realy sets the dish off!!! The Ahi Tuna salad is a must, along with all of the desserts, but the true jewels at J's are the dishes that arent on the menu. They seem to realy get it..... MAKE A FEATURE thats worth trying. A lot of places really do fall short in this department, but J's nails it every time, on my last visit I had a 10 ounce filet that was topped off with a broiled pakko/blue cheese mix, I did however sub the baked patoto for green bean that were sauteed with e.v.o.o, sliced almonds and montreal steak seasoning,a move i didnt regret, and we had it with a bottle of 2005 Clos Pegas Napa Cab Sauv, it was truly a grand slam. J's is definetly the place to go in west Houston if your looking for great food at a resonable price, in a nice enviroment.

MY REVIEW: This place has been excellent every time I've been. It's basically American style with steaks, sandwiches and burgers, etc. Price wise it's somewhere between some place ritzy and some place cheap like C*hile's. Quality wise it lives up to the price with good ingredients and portions and very friendly waiters and hosts. The carrot cake is scrumptious if you have room for dessert.

MY REVIEW: The service and food were fantastic. I have eaten raw onion in salad there and raw onion is my biggest food aversion. Cannot stand it, and the salad was wonderful. Anyplace that can prepare food that I hate and make me love it is getting my business. I've read a lot of reviews here about the price for the meals but this place is so good that they wouldn't be able to handle the droves coming through the doors if the prices were lower than they are. It is well worth the money and I will always leave a good tip. The atmosphere is perfect for lunch with friends or dinner with a sweetheart. Can't say enough nice about this place. It's a favorite whenever I am in town.

MY REVIEW: This has become my new favorite restaurant! Each time I've gone I've either been seated immediately or within 5-10 minutes. The service is exceptional. The waiters are extremely knowledgeable about the menu items and are very friendly and professional. Everything I've eaten has been delicious...I can't say enough good things about the food.

My favorite appetizer is the spinach and cheese dip with tortilla chips and salsa. Very delicious. I also love the Alex salad. For a side salad the portion is very generous. My favorite entree is the grilled pork tenderloin with the smashed potatoes. Again the portion is large which I like because I always have half left over for lunch the next day. My husband always gets a steak and it's cooked perfectly, very juicy, and flavorful. I haven't tried a dessert yet because I'm alway too full from the meal. When my husband and I eat here for an appetizer, salad, beverages, and 2 entrees the bill is around $60-$70, so we go every 3 months or so. Overall, this restaurant is exceptional and far exceeds the quality of any other restaurant I've been to in Houston. A definite must try!

MY REVIEW: This place (quietly) ROCKS! We arrived at 7pm on Sunday. Seated promptly. Small booth (oh how Houstonian's love booths!) Table would have been slightly crowded for 4 but for 2 was fine.

We had visited back when place turned from Houston's to Alexander's... dissapointed would be to slight a word. We came back because it as near to us and we had to be nice for a second chance. Was FABULOS! I find the menu slightly pricey, but not over the top pricey. If you don't drink alchohol two of the higher priced entrees and an additional side come to around $54.00 (tea and water were the drinks!)

I had the EXTRA LARGE Prime Rib with creamy horseradish... A mountain of Smashed potatoes looking like a 6 inch tall blue spruce Xmas tree. The PR was over 1" thick... slight downside they will not make it medium no matter how much you beg... MRare was fantastic for this cut. I may have to change my preferences!!!

Wife had the Refish with Czarina sauce. Czarina sauce is a cream sauce with shrinp and a few other complications. Came with Sauteed Spinach. She is a big fish eater. Fish was as good as the old D*enis down the road.

We also ordered a $4.00 side of Mac and Cheese (I love it!) Came in a small ramekin. At first I was dissapointed at the size, but then I had a taste. It had croutons on top and a three cheese mixture that was soooo rich! Two imported parmesans and something else. It was that something else that did it! This was worth the money all the way. If you love new and exciting, AND if you also love Mac and Cheese... you have to try it... Slightly reminicent of blue cheese but it wasn't... not too strong on the blue cheese flavor either.

Value for the dollar would be 8 1/2 out of 10... Yes I would like it to cost $3-$4 less per entree. Thats why I deduct 1 1/2!!! :)

MY REVIEW: Fantastic restaurant. We had J. Alexanders in Franklin, TN where we moved from and I was happy to find one here in Houston. The food is great but is pricey. I don't think I ever get the same thing when I eat there. Ribeye sandwich is awesome, Prime rib is fantastic, the fish is great and I don't even care for fish. The wife loves the Smoked Salmon appetizer and the crab cakes entree.

This is not an O*utback type of restaurant where you can go there every other meal unless you're a high roller like myself. This is an every once in a while restaurant. Service is always good when I go. Polite, prompt servers with great attitudes. Overall, it's probably one of the best restaurants on Westheimer Rd if you ask me.

MY REVIEW: I remember J Alexander’s from when it previously was a H*ouston’s Restaurant. It does not appear that the décor has changed much. The place seems a little dark inside, like a steakhouse, but it was nice looking. As we were escorted to our table we were led through a narrow route, which made it hard for stout built people to pass going in opposite directions. That’s about all I can say bad about J Alexander’s.

The table was covered with a white table cloth and white protective sheets. The sugar and sweeteners were in a nice round chrome dish with a swiveling cover. The table and chairs were comfortable.

Looking at the menu, it appeared very American style. Our waiter was very professional and one of the best I have had anywhere in a long time. I can’t say enough about how efficient the service was. Teas and waters refilled, usually with a new tea brought and the old tea left until you were finished with it. They did not add tea to your already sweetened tea, making you have to readjust the sweetness. The waiter spoke in a very clear and precise way so everyone could hear him and understand exactly what he was saying. I especially liked that when he told us about each special, he included the price. Some of the food reminded me of H*ouston’s menu. We had the Thai Kai salad, which reminded me of a similar salad at H*ouston’s. This salad consisted of mixed greens, with chicken tossed in a cilantro vinaigrette with Thai peanut sauce and very light crispy oriental noodles. H*ouston’s salad is very similar, except instead of the noodles they use thin sliced fried tortillas. The salad was excellent.

We tried a burger which was good and tried a couple fish dishes. One was the Ahi Tuna Steak which was served with a ginger mustard glaze and orzo & wild rice. The tuna was cooked just as requested. We also had the grilled salmon, served with Israeli couscous. The salmon was perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. I have had excellently prepared salmon before, and this was as good as the best.

We also had a chef from another restaurant with us and he ordered the strip steak with smashed potatoes. He knows steaks and said although it was cooked as ordered and was very flavorful it was not as good as the steaks he is familiar with in the more expensive steak houses. Of course you pay a lot more in the places he is familiar with.

Overall the food is good, service is the best, nice atmosphere, but I would say the price is just slightly on the high side, but definitely worth it. Reviewer “X” recommends J Alexander’s and will definitely be back again.

MY REVIEW: To be honest, I am surprised by all of the favorable reviews for this establishment. We were seated and greeted promptly at around 8PM, but that was the only strong point for our visit. The service was slow. Most of the time, we overheard our server complain to another about how busy and overwhelmed he was. Our orders came out with the wrong sides, but they fixed it and brought us a free extra. My filet was severely overcooked. (i ordered it medium rare, and it came out almost medium well). I wouldnt call the menu items overpriced, but I expect a little more out of an entree that cost 25 dollars per person. The employees were friendly, but I was disappointed with the service and food. I may give it a second chance, but it will not be for a while.

MY REVIEW: My fellow co-workers and I went to J's for lunch and we were seated promptly.. After reviewing the menu, we promplty got up and left the building... Why in the world would we pay $22 for an entree when Randall's have 10 for $10.00.. Thanks but NO THANKS

MY REVIEW: J.'s is the best kept secret. You can always get a quiet table and hear your fellow diners talk. The wine glasses are crystal, and the wine prices are reasonable (double not the usual triple). The food is excellent - I have ordered the full entrees and salad entrees, and never been disappointed. It's a good value for the price. The service is efficient without being disruptive. We never go to Houston's anymore. We go to J's and enjoy it everytime!
