MY REVIEW: I'm shocked at the positive reviews this place got. I thought it was the typical fare and was average at best. I won't be going back. I will agree that the bathrooms were clean and the general atmosphere was nice and the service was good. But I was there for the food and it really didn't impress me.

MY REVIEW: After reading the other reviews here, we decided to give it a try. We were certainly pleased we did. Here's a grade breakdown of our experience:
Service - A+ (attentive and not unwilling to answer questions! The management was nice and helpful, as well!)
Cleanliness - A (the bathrooms were clean, too!)
Buffet Quality - A (there was a staff constantly reloading dishes and making sure the buffet was neat...I've never seen that much concentration on the buffer bar in any other restaurant)
Decor - A+ (the seats are comfy and the tables are a nice size, not jammed together like at other buffets)
Sushi - A+ (good selection and fresh, too, for the *casual* sushi eater. I would go there just for this, but I know that a sushi expert may be disappointed in the lack of sashimi...dunno)
Hot & Sour Soup - A
Egg Rolls, S&S Chicken, Fried Rice, LoMein, Crab Rangoon (with spinach? egh!) - C-
Fried Calamari, Chicken & Broccoli, Pepper Steak, Peanut Chicken - B+
Dessert Bar - D (not much to choose from and the ice cream was "chunky")
All in all, we were very happy with our visit.

MY REVIEW: Good buffet. Maybe not the most selections, but what they offer is good. Kinda surprising for Chinese, but they have excellent yeast rolls which I enjoy with fried fish. Their fish is mild tasting, flaky and fried southern style in white cornmeal. Egg drop and wonton soups are excellent. Service is friendly and attentive---I like that they bring extra napkins without being asked. Sushi is maybe not quite as good as Oriental G*ormet, but other than that, I like this place a little better. Bay Area is lucky to have both buffets.

MY REVIEW: My whole family love this place (even though we live in Pearland but wouldn't mind to travel to such a good place,) and would definitely recommend to everyone. They don't have tons of selections to confuse you but most every dish is good, just the way a good food should be. Very good hot and sour soup (I always also buy to go after dine-in). Sushi is very fresh, desert has many healthy choice such as fresh fruit and fresh roasted cashew, good idea for healthy diet. The management and staffs are very friendly and prompt.
Thanks and hope you guys keep up with this good standard. Hope you'll open more branchs around Houston.

MY REVIEW: Awesome place! I usually get my order to-go which is great if I just got off of work and dont want to be surrounded by lots of people. Food always taste great. The place does get pretty busy and loud but to me thats just a sign of a great restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I absolutely love East Star!!! Management is wonderful and the staff are very attentive. I work nearby so I always get my food to go, that's right, TOO GO! A buffet that lets you take out...what a concept. They hand you a styrofoam plate w/lid and let select your items from the buffet. Then you bring it up to the register and they weigh it. The weight determines the price. I've always pay about $4 and that also includes sushi. If you dine in, at lunch time, it's about $8 a person. So taking your food to go is alot cheaper. I can't get enough of this place.

MY REVIEW: Very well price, large selection of sushi and other entrees. Just don't go close to closing time, food was excellent but was only room temp, I guess we got there to late. Would go again.

MY REVIEW: East Star is a great find. They may have the same items on the buffet everytime but that is why I keep going back. The food is fresh and always hot. For what you get, the price is reasonable. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. I wouldnt go anywhere else.

MY REVIEW: This place is a cut above your average Chinese buffet. It has a nice decor and a very good selection of Asian and American favorites. There is a good selection of sushi: more than just the standard california roll and tuna and salmon sushi. The food is fresh and doesn't look like it's been sitting out for hours.
My husband's only complaint is that they don't have General Tso's chicken.
Much better than Oriental G*urmet nearby! Costs a little more, but it's worth it.

MY REVIEW: I LOVE THIS PLACE! They actually have some sushi that has cream cheese in it AND they have salmon sashimi. I've never seen sashimi on a sushi buffet before. I'm so glad this place opened up. I wish they'd branch out to Houston though.

MY REVIEW: If I did not live in Stafford, I would eat here a lot more often. I like the variety and at the time I go the food is hot and fresh, always tasty. I never have room for dessert so I cannot comment on the other reviews. Price is good, especially for the quality.
My favorites: grilled vegetables, chicken fingers, peanut chicken, spicy chicken with jalepenos.
Nice and clean, good service ... stays on my list for lunch options while at work.

MY REVIEW: Good Sushi, priced right, Hots foods are ok too. Deserts could be better. I go there for the sushi buffet. If M*iyakos opens back up, I might not return here. Weekend price is same as Dinner price. Saturday lunch is no longer lunch prices. There is no variance to the food. It tastes and looks the same everytime.

MY REVIEW: East Star is definately unique among Chinese Buffets in that the food is regularly "refreshed" and there are a vast array of TYPES of chines food (as opposed to the usual "everything in the same sauce" you may find at most other chinee buffets). It's always packed (this is a good thing for a buffet as food is "refreshed" very often) but seating never takes very long. The peanut chicken is awesome, but the desserts are kinda bland. The restaurant is extremly clean and the lights are always at a comfortable level.
This is the best Chinese Buffet I've found (so far) in Houston.

MY REVIEW: Every time we went there the food was great!! Wonderful selection of sushi(for a Buffet), a lot of veggies, crab filled wontons, peanut chicken & kung pao chicken... yummy. Desserts are not too great, but they also have fresh fruit so stick with them!!
And all that at a really reasonable price. They are almost always packed, but we never had to wait for a table & their service is always prompt & friendly.
Even if you don't like buffets try them, they are not the stereotypical Chinise buffet place!!

MY REVIEW: Great price. Nice, non-steriotypical decor - not a paper lantern in sight! Very Good food. Best deal in town for sushi-with the BIGGEST bowl of wasabi in Texas (plus smoked salmon, you-peel-'em shrimp and oysters on the halfshell). Other buffets have more choices, but their food is more attractive and is quite well prepared. Good soups; appetizers, including won tons stuffed with crab , and a so-so- offering of dim sim; entrees featuring pork, beef, chicken, crayfish; plus great not necessarily Asian choices of fried fish (REALLY GOOD!), fried chicken, baked salmon, roast beef, and pizza (?). The vegatables are crisp and the dessert choices are nice. This place does land office business, but service is pretty good for a bustling buffet venue. Drawback for regulars is that its always EXACTLY the same, though more offerings are available at night.
Kids eat at a discount.
