MY REVIEW: WONDERFUL place, FRIENDLIEST service, DELICIOUS food. Like eating at your Mom and Dad without having to do the dishes... : ) The owners were very accommodating when I told them that I am a vegetarian and went out of their way to prepare a special plate for me. It consisted of To-Die-For Mufongo, fluffy rice, perfectly cooked beans, pigeon peas, chick peas and since I was not eating any meat they included a scrumptious flan on the price of the plate. IT IS A SMALL PLACE, it accommodates 12 people, so my suggestion is to get there early or be VERY patient, because it is ABSOLUTELY worth it.

MY REVIEW: Quaint and Delicious!
My daughter and her hubby found this place a year or two ago. It is worth standing in line for a side of mofongo with gravy along with any of the entrees. We love it all.

MY REVIEW: I love this place. Having just been introduced to this and Cuban food, it was recommended that I go here. It's funny, you don't want to tell anyone about this place because you want to keep it as your little secret... but then you want to tell everyone because it's so good. The food is great... the atmosphere is great... the owners are great. This is like eating at your grandparents house.. I love this place. Sometimes you will have to wait (it seats 14 people), but wait. It's more than worth it. I was told they only accepted cash, but I used my credit card there the other day.

MY REVIEW: I went there this month with my friends Angelucho and Hiram. And I fell in love with this place and the owners. The puertorican food , needless to say is the best I have ever tried here in Houston, and in Maryland. The owners are so friendly and courteous and they make you feel at home. It is a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The prices are moderate and the portions that you get are way more than enough. The ambiance is like if you were in your own kitchen back in Puerto Rico....totally familiar. I definitely recommend this small but very cozy restaurant and I will return, this time with my whole family. Thumbs up to this wonderful restaurant and its owners.

MY REVIEW: THE BEST homemade onion rings I have ever eaten--and I have tried them all. If anyone knows of a place that matches these onion rings, please let us all know. Heavenly!

MY REVIEW: This is the real thing! The food is just not good but incredibly great! A taste of Puerto Rico in food, ambiance and the people who eat there. Don Teo and Dona Carmen are the best hosts you can experience. They are witty and always with a great positive attitude. You can try the Carne Frita with Mofongo, bistec (steak) and onions, pollo guisado, or any of the other items in the menu. Nothing taste so-so, everything is just that good.
Am I sold on them? You bet.
Don't forget the flan for dessert, tostones, mofongo and when they have it,the avocados.
The smallness of the place is what makes it so unique, warm and welcoming. The cleaniness of the restaurant? See the multitude of Awards they have received through the year, every year and yes including 2006!
Buen provecho! (Bon Appettite!)

MY REVIEW: The food is sooooo good! I try to go atleast once a month. My boyfriend says he feels like he's back in Puerto Rico. I have tried Mofongo con Bacalao which is delicious! I also recommend la Carne Frita! and they finally take Credit/Debit Cards!! Which is great! No need to stop at an Atm anymore..

MY REVIEW: YUM! I can't believe how many times I have passed this place and never even knew it was there! The place is teeny-tiny and very clean. The couple are very sweet, it's like eating in your grandparents kitchen. I had the pollo guisada which was so tastey and cooked to perfection. My companions had the carne frita with plantains and the pechuga milanesa, both were very pleased. Can't wait to take friends to this hidden treasure!

MY REVIEW: This place is great! The older couple who run it are super nice and the food is delicious. The prices are pretty good, too. If you can't make it during the weekday because of the hours just go for lunch on a Saturday like we do. The place is really small as other reviewers have mentioned, but it just adds to the homey feel of the place. I recommend the Carne Frita or the Carne Guisada with either mofongo or tostones and rice and beans.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I arrived and had to leave because the restaurant only accepts cash. However, we had heard good things about the restaurant and wanted to try the food. We went to an ATM and were back but not in time. The restaurant was about to close but the couple who was working there had seen us earlier. They opened the door to let us in even though they were closing. We had the Carne Guisada and the Pork w/ Mofongo. Both were delicious! Since I work late most evenings we usually cannot make the times but the next time I am out a smidge early I will definately be heading back to Tex Chick. Great food and great people! Make sure to bring cash. Also, there are only 4 tables so you may have to wait.

MY REVIEW: ALL good stuff! Small area with friendly older couple cooking right next to you. Try the deep fried chicken breast with rice beans & tostones (fried plantain) It's always clean and filled with lifely conversation. but come expecting a slight wait. only 4 tables.

MY REVIEW: love the place! mainly because of the wonderfully tasting food! highly recommend everything on the menu!
This is actually a small space restaurant and you sometimes have to share a table with other patrons...but everyone has at least one thing in common..we all love the food, so don't worry about not having anything to talk about.
The owners are wonderful people...a couple who've been at this place for about 20 years. He does the cooking, she does the everything else that is needed. The "carnitas" and the "mofongo" are devine, just like the plantains (I can go on and on). Puerto Ricans usually don't eat any hot foods, but they have a great hot sauce for those of us who need it!
