MY REVIEW: A good neighborhood place. Salads/pastas are good, buffalo chicken tacos are awesome. Staff is always friendly. I do think some of it is overpriced but considering the original is in West U, what do you expect?

MY REVIEW: I have been eating at The Black Walnut in this location off an on for the last several years. Always with mixed results. The food is mostly good but the service can go from fairly good to embarrassingly bad. My last visit on a pretty typical late Sat. morning was the worst ever. First let me explain the set-up of the restaurant if you set at a table you order at the counter and go pick up your food when your buzzer goes off. We prefer full service so we set at the bar where the barista will take your order and bring it out. Upon arrival a barista soon came over and took our drink order. Although we requested menus we had to wait at least 10 min's and had to remind the server who seemed surprised that we would need them. Instead of letting us read the menu he stood over us expecting us to make a choice immediatly. After the order was taken I was brought out a danish which I had ordered which was served cold. I ask if they could heat it up which they did then they served it without any silverware I tried to get someones attention many min's later I finally got someone to bring me silverware but by then my danish was cold. I requested they heat it again which they did but forgot about it and another 10 min's went by. I fianlly went to speak to a manager who did not seem to understand why I was upset. By now we had been at the restaurant for over 45 min's and had not received our breakfast entree's and only one set of silverware. We finally just asked for our money back and went to The F*orrest Cafe which has a consistantly good breakfast. I have always liked the Black Walnut and understand that some of the problems are due to the fact it is not a full service restaurant but management and staff need to be trained in at least basic food service skills.

I will say although the staff seeed clueless on basic foodservices skills they were friendly and polite. We will probably return although probably not for awhile as the food is usually very good.

MY REVIEW: They changed the menu recently. Had Greek salad which was OK but not enough salad or feta cheese. AND they charged $10 for this "puny" salad you can get almost anywhere else for $7. Food OK but poor value for us. Dining companions seemed to like their choices.

MY REVIEW: We love the changes at the Black Walnut Restaurant on Morningside. The new menus are wonderful. We love the expanded breakfast menu. Today, we had the oatmeal and the brioche french toast, egg, bacon or sausage and potato meal.

The food was wonderful. There are so many new bakery items available.

Yesterday, we had lunch at the restaurant. I had a chicken pasta dish and my husband had a great grilled chicken salad. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. We finished the meal by having a great piece of chocolate pie. There are lots of options for dessert; gelato, great cakes, pies, muffins and filled croissants.

The Black Walnut is a must try restaurant. We love that you order at the counter and we love the variety of foods available.

MY REVIEW: Restaurant was comfortable and not at all crowded late on Saturday night. The layout is confusing but I was with a friend who had been there before and knew his way around. We ordered appetizers which the person taking the order said he would try to get out early. When the entire meal came out we were told that everything on the same ticket always comes out together.

Loved the salads. There were a little different and I thought the pasta with mango sauce and fresh fruits was just right for a warm summer's eve.

We would have preferred a wine list which better matched the menu. We would both prefered a Sauvignon Blanc to go with the salads.

Overall impression was good and we would probably go back again but not soon.

MY REVIEW: This place has really changed over the last few weeks. They have rearranged the entrance, added flowers, and organized the dining space, we liked it. Our food came out fast, and was tasty. We had the Thai Steak Salad, it was spicy and fresh. My friend had the Black Walnut salad and he loved it. As the previous reviewers said the menus are a mess, but the staff told us that new menus will be up next month. Music was up and down, but overall we like the place and will go back again.

MY REVIEW: I absolutely love this place! As a college student in Sugar Land it is so very nice to finally see a good, new restaurant that is not only decently priced but offers a great atmosphere and WiFi! I come here at least 3 times a week whether it's to eat lunch (my personal fav is the Anderson's 'Bout Time sandwhich with a salad or steamed veggies) or to taste some of the great desserts they have to offer. Now, I am a HUGE dessert junkie, and am quite particular about tastes, and let me tell you what - the Boston Cream Pie is absolutely to DIE for. I really love the staff, they are always helpful and pleasant. If you get a chance, take a look at the lighting and the fans. We're talking originality! Needless to say, I am a HUGE fan of this place and never tire of it. I highly recommend it to ...well to everyone I meet almost haha.

MY REVIEW: We've been to Black Walnut twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Breakfast was very good; I had an omelet and my wife had a quiche. I agree with previous reviewers; the menus are needlessly cluttered with goofy fonts and prices shown to four decimal places. Once you get past the confusing ordering phase you can settle down and enjoy great food and a quiet setting for breakfast. I enjoyed the choice of several coffees, and if you're a hot tea drinker you get numerous choices for that as well.

Dinner was not as enjoyable. We were in the mood for some hot sandwiches; I ordered a "Chicago Cut" which had a very spicy sausage and some roast beef, and my wife ordered a meatball sandwich. Both were extremely salty; someone had really gone overboard with the salt. Of course, this could be different tomorrow.

I stood in line at the ordering counter while confused patrons in front of me tried to sort things out. The counter people are very helpful, however. Parking was not an issue for us; there is limited parking on the street and fortunately we had found a place there. If you can't park out front, you're in for a bit of a walk.

MY REVIEW: Food not bad, but a little pricey. I had some sort of chicken salad, but I honestly felt that a similar salad that I got at The E*arl of Sandwich, across the freeway, was better, and a whole lot cheaper. A bit dark for me, and the ordering was very confusing. My husband has no patience, and by the time we ordered, and figured out how we were supposed to get the food back to the table, he was ready to leave.

MY REVIEW: I have eaten at the Rice Village location and was glad to know one opened in Sugarland. The food is always exceptional and served in a timely manner. I think the quality of food is excellent along with the prices. I especially like the Black Walnlut Salad and the Lemon Chicken Pasta. Would highly recommend!

MY REVIEW: I really like the ambiance of the place. The menus are difficult to read and take some time to process. I had to take a to-go menu and study it before I went back. The parking is also really bad. The food is good. However, I was disappointed in the garlic bread that came with my lemon chicken pasta. Instead of a half slice of garlic bread, I received about a quarter of a slice of bread. I will still go back.

MY REVIEW: There are more strong points then weak. The food was excellent and the presentation great. Prices about the same as Cheese Cake F*actory or other places in the area. I only wish that someone took your order at the table. I don't like to stand in line to order especially with such an extensive menu. I feel rushed to make a quick decision. I wish they would reconsider making that change.

MY REVIEW: I love Black Walnut Cafe and was glad to see them open in Sugar Land. The decor is great. I like that you seat yourself and the nice relaxed atmosphere. Sausage Vendor pizza is still the best thing on the menu. Staff is extremely friendly. Wish they would display the flavors of the gelatos but someone is always there to run down the list for you. Very cool place to eat with friends, alone or just have dessert and read a book in a cushy chair!

MY REVIEW: Not very impressed with this new neighborhood cafe. The items are over priced and a bit confusing. The atmosphere is stark and over crowded with furniture. We were there for breakfast @ 9:30 and it took 25 mintues for our meals to arrive then we had to serve ourselves without any trays or assistance. If you decide you would like any additional items you again have to get back in line and order from the start. The "mall" crowd was there but it is so loud that it is difficult to have a conversation. Overall, the menu is too extensive, the prices are overpriced and the food was average. Will not be returning.

MY REVIEW: My first visit here will not be my last. This is a very nice relaxing place to come vist not only for the food but perhaps for a relaxing afternoon drink.

My wife had the black walnut salad and it was supurb (I even liked it though I am a confirmed carnivore). I had the french dip sandwich and was plesently suprised. The onions on the sandwich were top quality and sweet (I am betting vadalia or Texas 1015). Unlike many places the onions did not over power the rest of the sandwhich. To give you an idea this French Dip came very close to K*atzs French Dip (though theirs is still a bit better). My son had the little Als pizza. Be prepared for something very different if you order this. Their pizza is not like any pizza you have seen before but it was very tasty.

The only downside was my daughter ordered the Sausage and cheese Kolachis and instead of having a regular sausage it had Italian Sausage which was way too strong for her.

MY REVIEW: We were looking for a new place to eat and based on the reviews for the other BWC locations, we decided to give the Sl location a try. I was not impressed. The place wasn't very full for a Saturday night and I after leaving I knew why.

1. It's dark. I guess for some they call it ambience, I just call it dark.

2. It's pricey. We ordered 3 entrees and an appetizer. Our bill was almost $50. My lemon chicken, which I ordered bc of the good review from someone here, had five tiny pcs of chicken was was buttery. One glass of milk for our kids was $2.75

3. We ordered our food at 7:03 according to the receipt. By 7:30 we had not yet recd it. When I approached someone at the counter about it he said, "I'm sorry" and then turned around. When our food was ready, they don't have trays to carry it to the table. They carry it for you if you need help, but the plates were hot and I would have liked a tray instead.

4. They do have a good variety on the menu, but I found the appearance of the menu annoying. There were too many font types and the dish names' were too confusing. I didn't like how they list the prices of the dishes. Instead of 13.99 it was 14.0637. BC of that, we thought the tax was included, but it's not. If you look at the Hours of operation, it is listed as 7:57-10:03. I guess they thought it would be different to list prices that way, I thought it added to the busyness of the menu.

Won't be back.

MY REVIEW: This place has pazzaz. I love it. The food is trendy and the bar has a warm elegance even though it is relaxed and cozy. The Black Walnut salad is perfect for me. All my guests really enjoy the walnut expereince.

My friend Chris, told my husband and I about it; he raved about it and he was right.

MY REVIEW: The restaurant needs to put a sign or a staff person at the entrance, directing patrons to go all the way to the back counter to order. Once we figured to do just that, I found the tall counter to be unwelcoming and foreboding. At least the menu has nice selection and the counter person Lauren was pleasant. We received our pager, which went off quickly enough to notify us that our food was ready. My husband commented that his roasted potatoes were not hot. My french fries were hot, but the meatball sandwich was room temperature. I didn't dare to ask to them to reheat it. Actual working warmers are need for BWC to prepare food before it's ordered. The restaurant itself is nicely furnished, but it's very noisy. At least we were able to eat quickly and get out of there. We spent $17 for food that would probably have been okay if better heated. We'll never go back.

MY REVIEW: The reviews just about cover it all. This place is amazing. Lemon Chicken Pasta is to die for! Eclectic menu...will please everyone in the group.

Parking...garage...but it's worth it plus a trip to the Village which can be fun or frustrating depending on the traffic. You won't regret your visit to the BWC!

Gelato rocks....albeit a bit pricey but delicious. Great service!

MY REVIEW: I was very impressed with the place. This is a beautiful restaurant. My Mother & I had lunch here on Saturday. The decor is really warm and inviting-not to mention comfortable. As you walk in there is a coffee/dessert bar farther to the back is where you order. This is one of those that you walk up to the counter & order & then sit & wait for your food-like C*fe Expr*ss. There were 4 dining rooms-the one up front was more comfortable with arm chairs-more or less for coffee & desserts or drinks, the ones in the back are more for dining-they have larger tables & regular chairs. The employees were very friendly and helpful.

The menu was great! I had a blackened steak sandwich. It came with either fries, salad or roasted potatoes. I opted for the potatoes and was pleasantly suprised. They were more like potatoes you eat for breakfast-kind of a skillet potato. Very well done with yellow bell pepper & onion. The sandwich I had was on a very good onion roll & came with garlic cream cheese. My Mother had the sandwich called Thirteen Coins-it was on a really good foccacia type bread-it had various cold cuts. She opted for the salad & she liked that very well. They had a vvariety of iced teas-mango, raspberry & regular. They also have a scrumptious dessert bar! I had a small gelatto-rum raisin. It was very good-but not as rum raisin-y as I would have liked. My Mother had the Italian Creme cake. It was very delicious. The price was great as well-my sandwich was $8.95 & our desserts were right at $11.00 together. So for the total lunch for 2 people it was under $30.00. As you can tell by my review I am really excited about this new restaurant!! I cant wait to try out the Morningside location as it is close to where I live but I am sure we will be back often to the Woodlands location.

I highly recommend this restaurant!

MY REVIEW: I visit Black Walnut just about every Sunday after leaving church. My friends and I found it one day just driving around the village & decided to stop. I have yet to be disappointed.

Although it took a minute to get my berings straight when I entered, ordering was a breeze and the food came out fast and it was delicious. THe place is never crowded when I visit. I think that's why I like it so much.

I have yet to visit on a day other than Sunday (tomorrow will be the first). So therefore I can only speak on the breakfast food, which is great.

MY REVIEW: My friends and I went to Black Walnut based on the reviews we read here on a Saturday evening. While we agreed that the manager and staff were friendly and accommodating, ordering our meal, conversing in a normal tone and getting out of there with dessert and coffee was a NIGHTMARE.

Unless you're with someone who's a regular, there's no way of knowing just exactly what you're supposed to do when you come in the door. The traffic flow makes no sense. I would advise them to go to Pronto's on Montrose to see how an order-at-the-counter restaurant can operate smoothly and efficiently.

The location of the entry menu allows only two people to peruse it, so the traffic backs up in the entryway. Why they couldn't provide menus to pick up as we entered escaped us. The gelato and italian cream cake were not tasty enough to be worth having to go back and stand in queue to order them.

The abbreviations used in the menu discriptions were irritating, and having to ask someone what the heck the Maria cheese was tiresome. Just call it parmesan, for heaven's sake! Does that word frighten the patrons?!?

While the pasta dishes, salad, and gelato were respectable, we couldn't talk about our selections because the place was so loud. We agree with a previous reviewer with regard to the interior design---whoever did it should hire a licensed professional next time... They could recommend easy solutions for sound-masking and add appropriate lighting so you can see what the heck you're eating, once you've figured out how and where to order it.

I doubt if we'll bother with Black Walnut again. It's not worth the trouble.
