Mekong Sandwich Shop

MY REVIEW: The chicken fried rice was very good and spring rolls were great. The dipping sauce for the rolls was un usual, but very good as well.
I hope I get back on this side of town very soon.

MY REVIEW: Excellent beef stew, Bun, and Vietnamese sandwiches. Great little hole in the wall for quick, delicious, authentic Vietnamese food. Ambience could be improved by playing something other than Fox news on the tube.

MY REVIEW: My family and I have been going to Mekong for years. Great Place for inexpensive vietnamese food. Love their rice plates and the sandwiches are great too. Family run business. Really nice people.

MY REVIEW: I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef soup with vermicelli) and my daughter had the rice with BBQ pork, shredded pork, quiche and fried egg. We also ordered the fried egg roll. The egg roll and rice dish were ok except the BBQ pork was kind of bland. My Bun Bo Hue was lack of spices and came out warm and not hot. The vermicelli was overdone and not much of them so my pho were just mostly broth. There are so many other Vietnamese restaurants in the neighborhood that I have not tried. I will not go back to Mekong again.

MY REVIEW: I just did a google map search for vermicelli and stumbled across this page. After reading the reviews my wife and I decided to give it a try. We had the spring rolls with charbroiled pork for an appetizer and we each had a vermicelli bowl for dinner. The spring rolls were fantastic. It was $2.85 for two of them. I would highly recommend them. The vermicelli bowls were pretty good as well. I have had better, but these were close to par. They are pretty cheap for the amount food you get ($5.25 - $6.50 depending on what’s in it).
Not too many cons: They don’t take credit (cash and check only). Also, cokes are served in a can so no free refills, but then again they are only 80 cents a piece. Service was a little on the slow side, but nothing to get bothered about. Overall a good experience. They close at 7:30 PM so if you want to go for dinner – go early.

MY REVIEW: Can we say Vietnamese Food?? This place is a must if you are Vietnamese food fans. I absolutely love MeKong Sandwich. The food is the best I've tried and I've tried too many to count. I was in Jamaica on a week trip and ran into a couple on the bus ride to the airport. They were from Houston and we got on the topic of restaurants. The first place out of their mouth was Mekong Sandwich. I had never heard of it but drove past one day and decided to drop in. I have not stopped coming back. This place offers tasty, fresh and well prepared food. The Spring Rolls are to die for, not to mention any of the dishes with crushed rice. We brought a friend from Poland and he can't stop talking about it. My congrats to the new staff, the delicious food and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Thank you MeKong for remaining one of my all time favorite places!!

MY REVIEW: Well their food is irresistably delicious!!! I always order the 'Shrimp' Fried Rice (Note: Not COMBINATION!)! While it does take them quite a long time to make the food and they do serve quite a small amount of it, its just plain worth it. I do admit though they do have their moments where they make my order worng the first 2 to 3 times and eventually I leave but I keep coming back. The new owners do seem a bit nice but I liked the old owners as they were great friends of ours. I do hope to get to know them better and learn more of their customs but until then its Shrimp only Fried Rice for me! Ill be back for more Mekong Sandwich!

MY REVIEW: After having couple of bad experiences since they changed the ownership, I decided to give it another try. I arrived around 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. The place was not busy at all. One table already had their food and one group of three were ahead of me. I waited about 30 minute for my food. The quality of food definitely improved. I will going back from now on but wish their service is a little bit faster.

MY REVIEW: The kitchen seems to have finally found the consistency they've lacked since Ted and Mai left months ago. The great flavor of the chargrilled pork is dependable again. Thank goodness, because it is simply the best Asian food in the area! The "second special" is a bowl of vermicelli noodles with chopped fresh veggies and herbs and a chopped eggroll, topped with the chargrilled pork and served with fishsauce. YUM!
Number 41 is a particularly scrumptious beef stew served with rice (you can get it with noodles also) and the beef soup is excellent. The sandwiches, eggrolls and spring rolls are very good.
The service can be iffy, but very friendly, and it appears that the tidiness of the restaurant is secondary to the flavor of the food. We will be back to eating here 3 or 4 times per week.

MY REVIEW: Under new ownership as of this week! Mai and Ted are gone but it’s still owned by a family member. I hope that the prices and food don’t take a turn for the worse. However, I think the kitchen staff will stay the same.
Above average Vietnamese dishes and good portions. The Sandwich bread can be a bit stale sometimes and there is a lack of consistency in some dishes makes this place hit or miss on some days and dining times.
You will find your glass empty more often than it being full. There seems to be a lack of attention to you once you get your food. Service is fast for all but the busiest times.
Week Points: Hours open, they close around 7:30PM and are not open on Sundays. Food tends to be on the greasy side as compared to other Vietnamese restaurants that the majority of patrons are Vietnamese. They don't take credit cards (Cash Only). The Menu's, Tables, Floors, Bathrooms and even the Fish Tank all seem a bit grungy
Strong Points: Good Vietnamese food, nothing else in the area can compare. I will still visit once or twice a month because the alternate would be traveling all the way across town.

MY REVIEW: This place has outstanding Vietnamese cuisine at very reasonable prices. Ted is a great guy and runs a great resteraunt. The place is filled with regulars (lunch crowd) and is making coverts daily.

MY REVIEW: Yawner...almost a stinker.
Tiny bones in sandwiches, mediocre pho, stale (almost old) goi cuon, forgettable service. Go downtown `round 2600-2800 milam for better food.

MY REVIEW: This is more than a Sandwich Shoppe! Mekong has the best Tasting Vietnamese food and it is always fresh and tasty. It is family owned and it is welcoming in that if you come more than once, Mai and her family will remember you and even remember what you ordered last time! The Bun Ba Mau is my favorite. It is a Bun (soup-like) created by Mai's Mom and has shrimp and a Vietnames egg roll with great charcoaled pork and vegetables and noodles! Because they don't take credit cards, their prices are extremely reasonable! I feel as if I am very special when I go there and not just another customer going to another Vietnamese restaurant! It's worth trying and you will return!

MY REVIEW: Simple, family run. Best vietnamese (french bread / pork slices / vegetables, sauce and jalapenos) sandwiches ever. Cheap as dirt - but clean and tasty.
