Dona Tere Mexican Restaurant
9908 Beechnut St, Houston, Texas 77036
MY REVIEW: Many places claim they have authentic mexican food, some might have one or two good dishes, but Doņa Tere is the only one where everything you try will transport you to Mexico, it's a culinary trip!! There are many seasonal dishes, like Chiles en Nogada and Escamoles, it's great to try them all as I visit this restaurant several times in a year. The service is excellent, ingredients are extremely fresh and I've been invited to see the kitchen a couple of times, always impeccable. Salsas are fresh and AUTHENTIC, no nasty Los Cucos Tex-Mex food here...

MY REVIEW: I love this place! The staff are friendly and inviting, and David always greets me by name. Dona Tere's food is fantastic. Any new person's experience here will bring them back. The chips are great with their fresh made guacamole. The mole sauce is hand made and fresh - always a pleaser for my visits! I've recommended it to numerous people and will continue to do so. I've never had a bad meal there, and I look forward to my weekly meal at Dona Tere.

MY REVIEW: A very good place to go eat has 100% authentic Mexican food including dishes which are usually only found in the southern and central parts of Mexico and are very hard to come by here in the US. The people working here were very nice very reasonable prices and the food is very good and like I said authentic no tex-mex here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

MY REVIEW: The food is authentic. I'm happy that this place remains open. They remain loyal to the authentic recipes. They have been in business for a little over 2 1/2 years and thru hardships they will not change the concept. I applauded and congratulate them. It is hard to find a true Mexican restaurant, the only thing you find are tex-mex, I'm sorry to say this but that is not Mexican food. Today I had their Chilaquiles with bistec and they were delicious (as always). The green sauce was perfectly spiced and chilaquiles garnished with the right amount of cheese, cilantro and onions. Their refried beans were cooked with "epazote," now that is authentic!

MY REVIEW: We were biking (old fashioned non-motorized bikes) around our neighborhood after Ike and decided to try this place...one of the few places open. We had bikes & no locks. The owner (David) opened his back door and let us put our bikes in the store room so they'd stay safe. We walked past the kitchen and it appeared to be quite clean. The help was very attentive and friendly. The food tasted like it was prepared with a lot more concern than at larger, chain places. We'll go back.

MY REVIEW: Food is very AUTHENTIC and DELICIOUS. I would highly recommend. Their tamales Oaxaquenos (Pronounce: Huahakeņos) are the best I've ever tastes. Their Molcajete Mixto was perfect for me an my husband to share. HIghly recommend it. I love the decor it is simply the staff is nice and friendly and we enjoyed the chef visiting our table to make sure everything is good. WE also enjoyed getting free refills on drinks that other establishments charge you for if you drink more like Aguas Frescas. Arroz con Leche was wonderful and order it everytime I go there. We found our new TRUE Mexican restaurant.

MY REVIEW: Having spent a couple of glorious summers in the interior of Mexico, I was thrilled to find a restaurant that serves delicious fare--and at such reasonable prices. The tamales were exquisite as were the enchiladas mole--the velvety, choclaty sauce was better than anything I've eaten north of the border. I almost didn't order the guacamole, but I'm so glad I did. As another reviewer has commented, it was fresh and lumpy (the avacados must have been peeled and sliced after I ordered it). I also loved the silky flan. Though the interior is nothing special, the friendly staff make you feel as though you're a guest in their home rather than a stranger off the street. Muchas gracias, Dona Tere! I can't wait to go back!

MY REVIEW: We visited this place for the first time last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a refreshing change of pace from the usual Tex-Mex fare. All the ingredients were homemade and you can taste the difference. For example, the quacamole. Instead of the usual pasty green sludge that starts the brown as its sitting on your table, you get nice chunks of avacado mixed in with the pico. You can taste every ingredient. Particularly recommended are the enchiladas mole, and their specila, the Molcajete Mixta. The tamales are especially good. The service was attentive and courteous. I'd visit this place again without hesitation.

MY REVIEW: My husband has been here several times and raved about the excellent authentic Mexican City cuisine. I finally brow beat him into taking me there for lunch and I agree: the food is wonderful. It's NOT Tex-Mex. Don't expect nachos. Do try the fluffy tamales. The pork are spicier than the chicken. Do try the mixed grill (molcajete mixta). The chef was preparing a typical Hidalgo (Mexico) chicken dish with authentic ingredients the day we visited. Unfortunately we had already eaten. We haven't tried the enchiladas mole but I will next time. Owner David is from Mexico City and uses family recipes. Give these very nice people a try. Please note: no wine/beer/liquor license and early evening closing hours.
