Blue Plate Bistro (CLOSED)

1708 Post Oak Blvd Houston TX

MY REVIEW: I went to this place today with my friend and co-worker. I was very pleased with our meal. The meat loaf is outstanding and the grilled portabello mushrooms were delicious. The fried green tomatoe with smoked chicken is a must. I am anxious to try their potroast and the pork loin.

I will definetely be back!

MY REVIEW: I just love the salad that I had. It was the Blue Salad ( ? ) The counter person suggested that I have it with Parmesan Crusted Gulf Shrimp. He was right. It was really great. I will go back and have it again when I am on that side of town. You can't beat the value here!

MY REVIEW: I just love this place. The food is always tasty and freshly prepared. I have never had a bad meal. Try the Drunk Chicken if you go. It may be the best thing on the menu. Oh - maybe the BAnanas Foster Bread Pudding is the best thing on the menu. TRY THEM BOTH.

MY REVIEW: All the reviews I hear about this place are good, but my experience was not a good one. Our mashed potatos were WAY TOO SALTY and my mother's salad was not tasty or well prepared. THe food had very little taste except for the extreme saltiness of some dishes. We did not even try dessert because our main course was so bad. Maybe we just went on an off day--but I will not be returning any time sooon.

MY REVIEW: The food is excellent. Always fresh and well prepared. Service is excellent. Where esle do you find white coat servers at a casual resturant. I love the blue cheese chips and the blackened chicken salad is the best I've ever had. I bring out of town friends here for a good meal at a reasonable price.

MY REVIEW: Being from out of town, we've had occasion to visit the Blue Plate Bistro several times. Each time we were treated with a very friendly staff and the service was excellent. We appreciate Cajun cooking since this is where our heritage lies and this restaurant really suits our taste especially with the variety of choices it offers. One of our favorites is the spicy chicken salad -- it is wonderful and the homemade bread certainly compliments it. We highly recommend people give it a try if you haven't done so. The owner Mr. Tim Taylor certainly made us feel welcome and we look forward to future visits to the Blue Plate Bistro.

MY REVIEW: I was only disappointed in one dish and that was Mama's pasta; the sauce was a little thin for my taste. Now, onto the good points; every other dish I've had has been excellant! Great fried catfish, meatloaf, the chicken potpie is to die for as are the desserts. Must try the banana fosters bread pudding. Good soups, salads and sandwiches also. Believe it or not, the big plus for me is that Blue Plate offers sliced limes for tea! The service is always above average and efficient. Lunches are busy but you don't seem to wait long. For a nice quiet dinner, come here in the evenings.

MY REVIEW: I look forward to each and every visit to Blue Plate Bistro since the food, the service and the smiles are consistently wonderful. While the Bistro has never proported itself to be gourmet, it has a wonderful selection of just plain (i.e., New Orleans "plain") good food. The pot roast, the seafood enchiladas, the fried green tomatoes with the spicy chicken salad (ooo...my personal favorite!) and that warm, homemade French bread all send my taste buds into overdrive. It's cozy, it's comfortable, it's reasonable, and it's friendly. What more could you ask for in a all around good place to dine?

MY REVIEW: Consistent good food, quick friendly service. Last visit I was impressed by the extra help two employees gave a slightly frail older woman who thought they had table service. But the food! I'm still trying to get that chicken potpie but am always waylaid by the meatloaf, chicken fried pork chops or chicken fried chicken (only on Thursday and Sunday). Best deal in the Galleria.

MY REVIEW: What a gem of a restaurant this is! Recently read a lot of very good press about this restaurant and decided it was about time to go and try it out. Do yourself a favor and DONT WAIT! After dealing with the crowds at church my family and I went by and it was excellent and very moderately priced for what you get. The atmosphere is very relaxing, service is very attentive and the owner is an absolute joy. Family style has never had it so good. We will definitely be back next Sunday... bringing more friends!

MY REVIEW: I met my business associates for lunch here today and as usual, the food and service was excellent. I had a large salad with grilled chicken and ate every bit of it. It was delicious. The restaurant is extememly inviting and the service is quick and friendly. I always enjoy my meals here. I highly recommend it for a quick, good, and affordable meal in the Galleria Area.

MY REVIEW: You must try the green fried tomatoes topped with the blackened chicken salad. A great small lunch sold as an appetizer for only around $5. The blackened chicken salad is also very good and my second choice on a day that I am hungry. I love the ability to go with a crowd of people to a restaurant and have an interesting menu and everyone can easily pay their bill. Wish we had more of that. It is a very nice touch that the meal is brought to the table and you do not have to leave and go get it.

MY REVIEW: I was very excited about trying Blue Plate after reading other reviews, but was a bit disappointed overall. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the roasted chicken. The total bill was $31, pretty pricey for an order at the counter type restaurant. Our entrees came with a salad and we also ordered the "blue chips" as an appetizer. That was the best part of the meal. We got them promptly and they were very good - homemade potato chips with bacon, blue cheese and scallions on top (all warm). The salad was average, but fine. I too was annoyed with paying 1.95 for tea that costs them two cents/gallon, but I agree with the previous reviewer that this seems to be the norm these days. We ordered our meal at 7:21 according to our receipt, and at 8:05 we still didn't have our meal! We finally got it after two trips to the counter. Fortunately, they gave us a $20 gift certificate to make up for the inconvenience, which we very much appreciated. The food itself was fine, but not outstanding. The roasted chicken was good, but the cornbread pudding and the vegetables accompanying it were average at best. The pot pie was good, although I prefer a more traditional pie crust versus the flaky, puff pastry type crust this had. I was very full and didn't order dessert, but they looked good. The staff was friendly, and the restaraunt was clean. I will go back for one more try, but with lower expectations.

MY REVIEW: A friend took me to this restaurant and we enjoyed everything about it. We both ordered lasagna and a salid. The lasagna was fresh, layered nicely and had a worderful taste. The salid was fresh and my vinaigrette dressing was nice and tangy. My friend also ordered chocolate cake and ice cream and it was also very good. The restaurant was very clean and the amities were pretty - the tables and chairs were high quality and the lighting was neat with the light shades being different geometric shapes and colors. It appeared that they had a nice large wine selection, although I did not actually look at the wine list. Finally, the service was professional and the employees were well groomed and dressed neatly. I would definitely go back.

MY REVIEW: My favorite day at Blue Plate is Thursday with the Fried Chicken, I am an addict, forget the atkins friendly and dive in. This time I happened to arrive on a Monday for a business lunch with a colleage of mine. No Fried Chicken BUMMER ! I found something just as good, the southern fried pork chops and they had gravy! I liked that I could smell the garlic when it came out to the table and it was fantastic. Then, came the homemade macaroni and cheese. Just like mama made it but better, if you know what I mean. Not into the box stuff. Keep up the good work, I guess I at least I have a good alternative if I am there on any other day than Thursday.

MY REVIEW: Blue Plate Bistro is a regular lunch spot for most everyone at my firm and has been since its opening last year. I grew up on the best southern fried chicken on earth and Blue Plate's fried chicken is even better. I bring home 4 orders of the chicken and dumplings every Tuesday. My husband and I have dined at restaurants all over the country, from taverns to 5-star restaurants, and we can truly say that Blue Plate is the best total package restaurant when everything is considered, such as service, ambiance, food quality and price. Everything on the menu is a home-run! They really hit it out of the ballpark this time! Want proof? Show up at lunch-time and let the crowd speak for itself. (Convenient location, economical prices and even better food!)Thanks Blue Plate!!

MY REVIEW: A friend and I went to this restaurant today and were not impressed. We both had the fried chicken on the Sunday brunch menu. We were impressed with the ease of switching side orders. Since I'm diabetic, I don't eat potatoes, so substituted mustard greens. Unfortunately the greens were the bitterest I've ever eaten with no flavor but bitter. The salad with lots of chopped tomatoe & cucumber and blue cheese dressing was good. The fried chicken was moist but not tender at all. The steamed mixed vegetables were okay, but nothing special. I also was not happy with the crusty white bread - no cornbread or any other variety of bread. I very much resented having to pay $1.95 for tea, although more places are charging outrageous prices for drinks today.

I'm afraid we won't be back: just not worth the money.

MY REVIEW: I work for 2 attonrneys and we order in from blue plate at least 4 days a week. Combined I have worked in the restaraunt industry for 4+ years, and I can honstly say I have never been more impressed ever. I have, many times, paid over $20 a plate for this quality of food. And its not just the food. Its the personal touch, how they each have taken the time to learn what I like. Kudos to Blue Plate Bistro. I eat their food at least 4 days a week and then crave it on the weekends. Now thats impressive!!!

MY REVIEW: The Blue Plate is a very nice restaurant, serving excellent food at a very fair price. I've had the seafood enchiladas and the chicken and dumplings and they were both excellent. One of the best lunch spots in the Galleria area and you don't have to wait forever to be seated. Highly recommended!!

MY REVIEW: This place reminds me of little bistros in Belgium, or Holland (where I lived for 4 years). The food is fantastic (elegant yet with a touch of the homemade taste)!!!! I didn't think the prices were too high, considering you can pay the same amount at a typical A**lebees, Fr**days, etc, and the portions are very decent. Definitely worth the visit if you are into trying something other than chicken wings and nachos!

The staff is friendly and I love the fact that it is NOT the typical place where you get served. At the counter you choose your wine (or drink), choose your meal, go sit down, and wait a bit for the food to arrive.

Nice atmosphere.

I personally didn't like the blue cheese chips, but I am not big on blue cheese. (I don't understand why one or two ppl mentioned that everything had bluecheese, I didn't think so).

MY REVIEW: They might not know our name, but we've been there more than 6 times. We told my parents, my husband's parents, and we've even taken them all to eat there together. We LOVE this place. For the price, you CAN'T beat the quality of the food and the amount, too. My husband and I try something different every time we go because we know it will be great!

MY REVIEW: I haven't gotten anything at this place I haven't liked. I go here because the place is fairly quiet, the booths are comfortable, and one can carry on a conversation without yelling. And, of course, the food's good.

MY REVIEW: Extremely friendly service, downhome comfort food......

I have not tasted anything I didn't like. I never thought I would like Mexican food here, it didn't seem to fit and if it did, I expected chilli enchiladas, but if you can go on Fridays and try their seafood enchiladas, made up of shrimp, crabmeat and salmon. They are to die for!!!!

Their foood is comfort/gourmet usually for under $10 with a salad and warm bread!

Highly recommended for quick friendly service.
