MY REVIEW: I decided to try this restaurant again because it has new owners. I was pleasantly surprised to find new decor, good friendly service and good food. The goat curry was the best I've ever had and the garlic naan was fantastic! The lunch buffet is less than $10, so even the price was right! I'll be back!

MY REVIEW: I have been disappointed by the food in the past, but stopped by tonight only for the naan (to go). At 6:30pm, there was only one table occupied and by the discussion I overheard, it was their first experience with Indian food.
I got home and was disgusted to find the absolute WORST NAAN I have ever tasted. It was both limp and burnt! There is no excuse for this as there were no other patrons waiting to be served. If you can't make decent naan you should close the doors for good!

MY REVIEW: This is my second time visiting this restaurant in as many years and I am very surprised that people rave about the food here. First of all, I am Indian and I have had tons of Indian food in my day, so I would say that I am somewhat knowledgeable about the cuisine. I went to the restaurant on a Thursday evening and there were only two other people in the entire restaurant. The prices for some of these dishes are ridiculous when taking into account the taste, quality and portion size. I ordered the lamb biryani which was $14, which looked decent but had absolutely no taste. Then come to find out there were 4 1" lamb pieces in the entire pot of biryani. I asked the waitress about the lamb pieces and she told me "Lamb is expensive." I had to take curry from my mothers lamb curry dish to spice up the biryani, which by the way is also $14 and doesn't even come with rice or nan (1 for $2). I have never been this dissapointed with Indian food at a restaurant. There is not even a manager on duty whom I can voice my complaints to. All in all, bad experience.

MY REVIEW: Been here a few times. This was my first visit since they remodeled. It really spiffed the place up nicely.
The food prices had gone up as far as I could tell. The service from the wait staff was on the ball but the woman and bearded guy at the register seemed to be unhappy. Just a really unpleasant dispositions. Though I'm pretty sure they weren't part of the wait staff since they wore street clothes. Still, they got us paid up very quickly and back to work on time.
Quality is nice as always but not really for the cost. I like the food but I'd be tempted to go somewhere else for the money. Sure, there are more expensive places but they have better ambiance and the people up front (the lady and the bearded guy) are at least nice to customers.

MY REVIEW: Went to this place on the eve of 10-4-06, with my wife and my mother. My mom works in the area and had noted that this place got very busy at dinner (particularly on the weekends) so we decided to give it a try. We had ordered the chicken tikka marsala, curry chicken, vegitable samosas, vegitable pakoras, & nann as well as another vegitarian dish that I cannot remember the name of. It was all very delicious and the service was excellent (the waiter was right there to fill up my water glass before it got too low).
My mother loved her curry chicken, which means it's very good because she's not too fond of indian cuisine, and my wife loved her vegitable dish as well (of course mine was absolutely fabulous). My only problem was that on the menu under the entrees it says in parenthesis (Choice of Nann or Rice) which we came to find out was a deceptive ploy on the restaruant's part (or a mistake, but if it was a mistake they would have owned up to it and taken those charges off our tab). They had charged us for the two orders of nann that my mom and wife thought came with their entrees and charged me for the order of rice that I thought came with my entree. We brought this up with the waiter and he had told us that the entrees didn't come with nann or rice because they marked down the prices of their entrees. Granted the prices were crossed out and rewritten back in but nothing was marked about the nann or rice not being included with the entrees. Entrees were about $10.50 and an order of nann was about $2.50 with rice at about $3.25. For that price I would have rather have gone to S*hiva's to get one of their chef recommendation platters that includes 4-5 differnt selections of dishes plus rice plus nann (and end up taking home left-overs).
The food was excellent and the service was great but our experince was soured by this misleading pricing. I doubt we'll return becuase there are so many different places we want to try and not enough cash to go around, so until we come to the end of our list of "restaurants to try" we won't include it into our rotation of favourite places to eat. It was unfortunate because my wife and I are always on the look out for new great indian restaurants and everything about this one was great but that one incident.
Also the atmosphere wasn't too bad. The decor reminded me of an inexpensive chinese restaurant with very little to do about India other than signage but very neat and clean. I loved the background indian music (kinda makes you even want to dance a little). The bathrooms were okay but I've seen alot that are better. If I were to recommend this place I'd say go for it but be warned everything there is a-la-carte even if the menu says differently (you might want to ask the staff just to be sure). Viva las samosas!

MY REVIEW: This place had really great food and even though their buffet was small and had little to choose from, the choices were delicious. The only complaint I have was with the service. The chef was very nice and helpful but the receptionist/waitress lady (largish woman with shoulder-length hair) was rude!
Other than that, the ambience is not the best, but otherwise o.k.

MY REVIEW: The place has been remodeled since the 1st time I went a couple months ago. I think they raised their prices. The sag paneer was incredible. The lamb biryani was also great but it was way overpriced. Still, the quality was there, just a bit expensive.
The waitstaff was incredly on the ball even though the place was packed to the gills.

MY REVIEW: Just discovered this place after recently moving to Sugar Land. The food is excellent, however they are going through some renovation/expansion at the moment so the decor should improve once it's all finished. The service wasn't perfect but very helpful. The food is very tasty and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for 'real' Indian food and not the stereo typical Americanized so called spicy Indian food. They can make a very spicy Vindallo.

MY REVIEW: Love it. My favorite Indian restaurant in the entire U.S. and I have been to many of them. The saag / palak paneer is my favorite.

MY REVIEW: We hit this place last Saturday at around 2.30pm, hungry after a big moving. All of us are Indians who really love good Indian food. We have tried almost all places in Houston and Cafe India's buffet is now one of our favorites. This buffet line is'nt as big as the one at other Indian resutrants, the decor of the place is'nt much to write about. Its plain and neat but the food is real good. The nan's were soft and fluffy as they should be, the curries spicy and hot. The tandoori chicken was moist and filled with flavor. The channa was real flavorful as you get at typical north Indian homes. They just stick to North Indian food unlike many Indian resturants who want to have everything and they do an admirable job. On the down side, I would say papad is'nt a very buffet line friendly food it tends to lose it's crispiness and that is'nt what you expct from a papad. Also the rice seemed a tad too dry. The men in our group did'nt notice it. But the women who know about the intricacies of cooking noticed it. But the flavor was awesome and the dried or not the rice was a big hit with our group. Dessert was also not so good. The kheer they had were tooo sweet. Not the way actual kheer tastes. Might be they just need to have an eye on the amount of condensed milk they add to it. Kheer is'nt condensed milk with semolina and rice as they serve in Cafe India.
The wait staff were attentive and did'nt hover around us. The price is also good compared to the quality of the food. Unlike some buffet resturants where you shell out $$-$$$ Cafe India offers authentic North Indian resturant food for $.
A must drop in place if you like Indian food. Though Sugarland has a number of Indian places, this is the best.

MY REVIEW: A real Sugar Land Treasure! We have never "reviewed" a restaurant, but this one is worth taking the time to do it. This is our family's favorite restaurant. We miss it so much when we are out of town! The food is amazingly delicious, especially if you are a flavor hound. They have the best Sag Paneer you will ever taste. My husband loves the Chicken Tika Masala and Chicken Curry. We scoop everything with the best Naan ever. Even our young children love it and the owners were awesome at suggesting the perfect things for tiny young taste buds. They even get a candy treat each time they visit. The owners are perfect ambassadors of indian cuisine and you can confidently take someone new to indian food here for a real delight. You will find delicious food, a friendly, family atmosphere and outstanding people. What a wonderful job well done!

MY REVIEW: Last visit I took my 13 yr old daughter and one of her friends. One of them got the chickem pacora and the other, chicken curry, and they loved it, also the naan which comes when you need it. they are hooked. For me, the pappadams and sauces are the best in town and I love the lamp curry and the spinach. This is by far the best Indian in Sugar Land, regardless of what that other place down the highway says. I eat here around once a week at lunch too and its always good with the waiters and manager especially friendly. Go, and you will not be dissapointed.

MY REVIEW: Eat here for lunch once a month at least. Nan is very hot and very fresh. The buffet is tiny but good. The shikh kabob take away is good as are the somosas but the somosas are ridiculously overpriced.
Good staff but they seem to be always changing.
