MY REVIEW: Food was delicious. We tried a variety of both traditional rolls and house specialties. All were amazingly fresh and outstanding. The place was packed, but it was a Tuesday so we didn't have a long wait for dinner. Service was adequate, not outstanding but it didn't get in the way of enjoying some wonderful food. I think O*saka is better, but I would absolutely go back.

MY REVIEW: I really don’t know what people are actually referring to when they tell me “I love sushi”. All I know is that I am a fan of sushi rolls. Blue Fish House (BFH) has some of the best sushi rolls that I have tried in my life. I have gone back and tried rolls at my former “favorite” sushi restaurants, but non compare to the selection, taste, and appeal of BFH. If you like rolls, and don’t mind spending a few dollars try my wife’s favorite sushi roll, Volcano Roll.
Overall: Strong points: Sushi rolls are awesome. Weak points: The wait sometimes sucks. Specialties: The Volcano Entrees: The regular food is not that great. Desserts: Never had it
Ambiance: The place is small, but nice. The lighting is good, and it is not overdone with decorations.

MY REVIEW: The food and service was AWFUL..We were served after the people re arrived before. They have water and tea seating out..I have no Idea why? The service was awful it took almost an hour to get our food. Which happended to be the people's food next to us, so I have no idea what I ate. I have been to better places, O*ishii, D*ozo, S*ake, Are all alot better. DOn't waste your time or your money.

MY REVIEW: Went for the frst time last night and I'll have to say that I shouldve been sooner. The food was simply to die for. My g/f had the spicy crab rolls and I got the Unagi rolls plus the ocean something or other rolls, loved it all! I agree with the service, wasnt the greatest, but after your recieve your food who cares! Though the place was fairly small and very busy when we got there, they sat us right away but in the right side area which is a bit crowded for a guy who's 6'4". Other than that, I would fully recommend the place and will definitely visit again. It sure made me think twice about going to M*iyakos when this place is 2 blocks from it. Great food, crowded and loud (atleast Sat. night), food was very well priced along with the drinks. spent about $35 and got out of there with 3 sushi orders and 4 beers. Hell of a deal considering its sushi.

MY REVIEW: This place has the BEST sushi I have ever tasted. It is fresh and has some unique combinations. My fav is the Baja california rolls, deep fried madness and the spicy tuna. BUT THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE! It will be the ruin of a good evening out. The staff are unfriendly and unattentive. PLease improve this so everyone can enjoy a good time out.

MY REVIEW: I've been to Blue Fish House twicw a week and it never disappoints. They have some interesting variations (the Volcano Roll, the Deep Fried madness) that are absolutely delicious, even for a non-adventurous sushi eater like me. Their stand-bys (spicy tuna, Crispy roll, Crispy baby octopus) have been perfected. The fish is fresh, the service is friendly, knowledgable and attentive (our water glasses were never left more than half empty). Try it. You won't be disappointed.

MY REVIEW: It's all hype about this restaurant. The service here is totally lacking. The ambiance is quite nice, but it's very small, so don't bring a big party. I don't have a lot of good things to say about Blue Fish-- I've given this place numerouns chances, and I've been disappointed every time. I have TRIED to like it because all of my friends love it.
One plus about this restaurant-- the non-sushi items are very, very good and there's a really good selection of tofu dishes for vegetarians/vegans. If you want a good bowl of udon, go to Blue Fish. The sushi is average (below average, if you come late at night-- we were served a very STINKY rainbow roll), and the specialty rolls are a little to dressed up for my taste. Everything is fried or has cheese in it, which isn't good sushi to me.

MY REVIEW: I have been to Blue Fish at least 20 times in the past 2 years. From these reviews as well as from friends who have been to Blue Fish, I get the feeling it's just one of those places that people either really love or really hate. I happen to fall into the "really love" category. My main attraction to Blue Fish is the ambience. I love sushi, but I really dislike the traditional, austere, monochrome, Japanese restaurants that have no personality. Blue Fish is tucked away in a quaint, cozy house with wooden floors (which could use some re-finishing by the way), nice lighting, and just enough personality in the decor to combine to create a unique, intimate setting. I think Blue Fish would be a great choice for a first date, or a second or third.
As for the service, it is true that if you are looking for a waitress who will hold your hand and check on your progress every few minutes throughout the meal, BF is not your restaurant. That being said, the place is small and intimate enough that if you ever need something, it is very easy to get your waitress's attention, which is usually what I end up doing.
When it comes to food, BF does not disappoint. THEY HAVE THE BEST EDAMAME IN TOWN. I know it would seem that edamame would be difficult to get wrong, but I have ordered it at several sushi restaurants in town and never liked it as much as BF. I guess it's in the amount of salt and the cooking time.
I stick to the sushi rolls- the only one I've ever been displeased with was the Volcano, for the same reason a previous reviewer mentioned (too much sauce). My boyfriend usually orders from the menu and his entree is always delicious. Top it off with a couple of Sapporos, and you have yourself a lovely evening.

MY REVIEW: The food is good, nothing impressive though. But, what I cannot stand about this place is the terrible service. The waiters just dont seem to care...about anything. Everytime I've been to Blue Fish, I feel like I should thank the staff for allowing us the privelege to dine in their establishment. I have friends who love this place, but I cannot get past the service.

MY REVIEW: Food here is good but the service is AWEFUL! I usually come here for lunch and they get things out pretty quick and usually checkup on you. I made the mistake of taking my family here for dinner. They wanted to try somewhere new so I decided to take them here. Big mistake. We were seated prompty with a great table but it went downhill from there. We got stuck with a server that barely spoke English and couldnt understand half the things we were saying and we were speaking slow too! When it was time to order we asked her if they could make a certain roll. She responded, "Let me check". As she left our table, my brother watched her and noticed that she only circled around a few tables and then came back to ours and said, "No, we dont make". Ok--the girl didnt even ask anyone. She just thought she could kill time and act like she asked. Throughout our hour dinner, she never checked on us, never refilled our drinks, and then threw our bill on the table without asking if we needed anything else. By this time, we just wanted to get the h** out of there--RUN! Take my advice, the staff is much more alert during lunch.

MY REVIEW: Being an LA girl stuck in Houston I was having mad cravings for something other then tex-mex (yuck). So finally someone introduced me to Bluefish and I had a really good time. My favorite is their curry udon and "deep fried madness" and spicy tuna handrolls. The ambienace has a really cool vibe and I think prices compared back @ LA is pretty reasonable. They also have good deserts like fried banannas w/ red bean, mango, or green tea icecream. Bon appetitie!

MY REVIEW: first let me say that i love sushi so its kinda hard for me to find bad tasting sushi...
so wen a friend of mine recommended this place to me, i decided to check it out. it was kind of hard to find because its pretty small and i guess it didnt look like wat i would expect it to look like so i kept missing it. it looks like a house (hence the name huh?)
but then inside, it looks really nice and hip. kind of trendy for a sushi place. i like the atmosphere, kind of cozy. the menus were cool. i read the whole menu just to see wat names they gave everything. i ordered the 6 california rolls wit the salmon, eel, and hamachi sushis. it was really good. the rolls were pretty big in proportion and i also had the soup and salad. everything was SO good. and then everything seemed to taste so much better wen i got my check. it was so cheap! the cheapest sushi restaurant i've ever been to.
overall the experience was nice. i really like the food and the prices. the only thing i can complain about is the service. yeah the girls werent that attentive but they were nice. and then since the floors were wood and the girls wore some kind of special shoes, all i could hear during my meal was the clanking of their shoes so that kind of got annoying... but other than that, i would definately recommend this place...

MY REVIEW: I don't know if everyone knows my name, as the service isn't the greatest, but its definitely sufficient. The sushi and rolls are excellent and a great price. My wife and I eat there on average once a week and our total bill (not including tip) for 5 rolls is typically between 28 - 32 dollars including taxes. We both pretty much just stick to the rolls as they are delicious and enormous in quantity. The food is always fresh and tastes light and good. WE've tried other restaurants such as A*zuma (good but not as good as bluefish and more expensive), and other sushi restaurants which do not compare at all. Overall, they are great and we both look forward to every trip there. Only thing we don't like is the amount of ginger they give you, very small portion and if you want more it's a 1.00 a pop. Other than that great. Favorite Rolls: Spider Roll , spicy tuna roll, baja california roll, and crazy ocean roll.

MY REVIEW: My friends and I tried out this restaurant on a Monday night during peak time. The staff was friendly, but they were very busy assisting others. Sushi was great, but I also ordered the JFC pork entree and it wasn't as great. The food was already getting cold and the meat was dry. The sauce was extra cold- tasted like it came right out the cooler. Overall, this visit was just "okay" for me.

MY REVIEW: The food was fairly good, however the service left much to be desired. The food was definitely not good enough to warrant another trip. They were busy, to their credit. It was later on Saturday night. Problems 1 - we weren't sure who our server was. 2 - our empty plates were never picked up and water glasses were not refilled. 3 - at the end of our meal, after we had been given our ticket, I asked the waitress to please pick up our many plates. She made motions like she was bussing the table, but when my friend put the charge receipt down, she put the plates back on the table, snatched the receipt and walked away. Now, to me, this is a cardinal sin of service. To hover around the table and rather than bus the dishes, take the receipt and go to the cash register and start closing tickets? This is incredibly rude and enough to make me not come back. We spent about $80 total...enough to deserve better treatment. There are several other good Sushi restaurants in town to make this one obsolete in my book.

MY REVIEW: After reading reviews and hearing good things, I decided to give The Blue Fish House a try. Having yet to find a truely great sushi bar in Houston I had high hopes, and similar expectations.
Going on a weeknight I was able to miss the busy weekend crowd, and eneded up spending the evening at the suhi bar with my wife and nobody else for the 1.5 hours we were there. Most of the tables stayed occupied, but the bar itself was dead. I would agree with the reviewer that said the music gets a bit repetitive with constant love songs playing but not too bad for a romantic date. The service was fair. It was a bit hard to determine if I was supposed to order everything from my sushi chef, or a waitress. The wait staff seemed to never check on us, but as soon as I would ask the sushi chef for something they would run over and intercept the order. All in all the decor and ambiance was decent but nothing made it incredibly noteworthy.
Food and Drink: Their sake offerings are minimal, they do not have a full bar, so its not going to get much rave reviews from me on drinks. The sushi menu was a definate mix of off the wall combinations as well as some of the traditional items they must serve. We started with a spicy tuna handroll, white tuna sashimi, the deep fried wonder, and the volcano roll. The white tuna was of decent quality as well was the spicy tuna handroll, the deep fried wonder was an enjoyable taste for something different, I thought the volcano roll was nothing short of an overload of flavor. When I think of sushi, I think of simple delicate flavors and combinations of them. The Volcano roll was just a blob of a roll with a glob of sauce poured over it that had so many different flavors it started to bring out but just left you with a "what the heck?" feeling. The only way I can describe it is to call it a caserole of sushi. Which reminds me they had something they called "sushi pizza" on the menu. I have no idea what it is, but it definatly had me wondering what someone was thinking when they added that to the menu. If I ever see a sushi hamburger on a menu I am gonna walk out for certain.
For the next go around, we ordered some yellowtail, toro, salmon, eel, a couple of basic traditional rolls (new york and something else I do not recall), and at the chef's recommendation the crispy tuna & Asparagus. Again the fish & eel were decent tasting, the basic rolls were also decent, and the crispy tuna asparagus was a nice combination.
All in all I would lean on saying it is a decent experience and would be a good place to take someone that is afraid of the term sushi because the thought of raw is gross. They can definatly get a fill of fully cooked items and feel right at home. I left spending about $100 and didn't feel like I got what I paid for. I will most likely end up going back at some point most likely with someone who is afraid of the concept, but I do not see myself as a regular there.

MY REVIEW: Love Blue Fish!! I go there especially for their "Deep Fried Madness". Sushi is definately an acquired taste but it is absolutely divine at Blue Fish on Richmond. I usually eat there at least once a week and have recommended it to many people as well. Only one improvement...to stay open longer and their music can be a bit repetative with the romantic songs but hey...it's all worth it!

MY REVIEW: I have heard so much about this place that I made the mistake of actually expecting it to be good. What a HUGE MISTAKE!!!
The sushi was awful! The scallops were dry and gummy. They have probably been seating around for ever. The yellowtail was very fishy. The white tuna wasn't broiled on the sides nor did it have sauce or scallions on top, and those to were very fishy. The maki rolls were not very good. The yellowtail maki was stinky and very chewy.
The place itself was cute; however, cuteness doesn't make for a good restaurant. Our waitress was friendly. We had to keep reminding her that our drinks needed to be toped off, other than that she was ok. There are many good Sushi restaurants in Houston, and Blue Fish is not one of them.

MY REVIEW: The sushi and even the warm food are good. The prices are competitive (cheap sushi is daunting to me) and I really think the chirashi is a bargain. They constantly change the decor, which is amusing for those of us who go about once a month. The downsides: 1) they close from 3-5pm, so no late lunches 2) The service is really bad, but it constantly changes over, so if you have a bad experience with one server, don't worry, another is soon to follow.

MY REVIEW: First visit here, and after hearing what a great place it was and reading the reviews here, decided to give it a try. Besides, how could you go wrong w/ a sushi house?
Pleasantly surprised by the restaurant's decor. Warning: Parking is very tight! It's an easy restaurant to miss on Richmond, and the parking is tight and seems like a construction site in itself! But don't worry, there's more parking if you pull in the back next to the side streets and by the H*obbit Cafe.
A quaint little restaurant, very cute, a nice homey atmosphere. Even though it's small, it doesn't seem crowded, and I was seated immediately on a pretty busy night. I sat at the sushi bar; that's probably why; the wait for tables was about 20 minutes. The lighting is extremely dim, which has always been a wonder to me w/ some restaurants. Don't you want us to be able to read the menu? Mostly young 20-30 year old couples out for a quiet sushi conversation. No real big parties. This is a chill restaurant for a nice night out, not a place you go to to be seen or heard; that's probably more along the R*ickshaw line.
On with the food! First of all, the waitress seemed to ignore my date and I; I don't think they have waitresses assigned to the sushi bar. THe tables all seemed to be getting timely service, but every time we wanted water refills or to order something, we had to flag down a waitress. Quite annoying. After looking at the menu, which is quite extensive, we settled on the Deep Fried Madness Roll, the Mango roll, and the stir-fried udon w/ chicken and vegies.
Mango Roll, about $4.50, was delicious! I love mangoes and so had to try this one. Portions are pretty decent, and this roll had mango w/ snow crab. You absolutely must order this! The pieces are fair sized and it comes w/ 6 pieces.
The Deep Fried Madness roll was delicious as well. Around $6 for 6 pieces, had fried tuna with this really sweet, almost teriyaki sauce. I have to admit, the sauce was overdone. Our roll was smothered in this sweet sauce, and I wish that they would have gone lighter w/ the sauce. Otherwise, this roll was also a nice surprise.
After waiting for a 1/2 an hour, and seeing the tables surrounding us receiving their entrees, we flagged down a waitress (again) and asked where our udon dish was. Oops, they had forgotten to put it in. Well, no apologies, just a "we'll put it in now." Um, aren't you here to please the customers and make us want to return? It's a good thing my date and I were in no rush and were in a good mood; otherwise, I would have been quite pissed. After about 20 minutes, our udon dish finally showed up. Nothing special; just the regular stir-fried udon w/ chicken, shrimp, and vegies. A good-sized portion for about $8 or 9.
I was still hungry, so I ordered the spider hand roll and the jade specialty roll. When the jade roll came out, it was so gorgeous that I whipped out my digital camera and took a picture. No joke. The jad had eel, cucumber, and on top was flying fish roe and some seaweed. Then it was lightly (yeah! not smothered like the Deep Fried) covered in this delicious sweet sauce. I loved it! Even better than the mango roll, I thought...6 pieces for $7 so a bit pricier but well worth it. I savored every single piece of that jade roll. Yum!
The spider hand roll was too expensive - $6 for one hand roll that was OK sized but nothing special.
I would have like to order dessert, but the place was closing. Watch out! Blue Fish closes at about 10, and they make it known because the waitresses and bussers will start cleaning the tables, the sushi chefs begin to put away their fish and start cleaning the bar, and generally all service stops. THis was our cue that the workers just wanted to leave. So we got our check - came out to about $35 and it was a great meal, w/ good portions, and 3 awesome rolls!
Just a note: this is definitely an Americanized sushi place. Looking at the entrees on the menu, they ahve all sorts of chicken, shrimp, fish, and tofu dishes. They have pretty good lunch specials that came w/ soup or salad and rice for about $7-10. Seemed like a pretty good deal. They have an entree called "U pick it" where you pick you fish and sauce and they cook it up for you. Kind of interesting! Their other dishes seemed decent - but none really caught my eye as unique.
Their other sushi rolls, though, I would like to try! They've got a fair amount of special rolls, and there's a veggie tempura roll w/ yam that I want to try, a baja cali roll that sounded good, and their special rolls all sounded amazing, but are steeply priced at around $12-14 for just 6 or 8 pieces. The sashimi selection is average as is the hand roll selection. Their appetizers don't seem to be that extensive; they have the usuals (tempura, soup, snow crab) but nothing exceptional.
On the whole, service was lacking (but perhaps that's because we were at the sushi bar), the atmosphere is very nice and relaxed, the sushi chefs were quite friendly, and the prices are decent. Go for the selection of rolls, not for the entrees, and enjoy yourself for a quiet night out on Richmond!

MY REVIEW: Blue Fish house is by far the best Japanese restaurant in Houston. Not only is their food delicious, but they also have a wide variety to choose from at low prices. The service is excellent; whenever I go there I get friendly smiles and greetings from the sushi chefs and the servers. The food always comes quickly, and the servers are attentive to your needs.
I've eaten here several times and I've always enjoyed the experience. The sashimi is fresh, the tempura is crispy, and the Udon dishes bring back rural life in Japan (Think cozy mountain refuge in snow country). My favorite special is Crispy Tuna Asparagus, a fresh Asparagus wrapped with nice piece of Tuna with spicy Mayo ,bonito and tobiko. You can go in and always be greeted by the same staff members who remember your favorites you enjoyed times before. It is a beautiful atmosphere to go and feel like you are at home. Enjoy!!
