MY REVIEW: I really have never been to Pollo Campero and hear it is unique, and I plan to try it sometime in the future, but I could not resist wondering why the previous reviewer would want vegetarian beans at a Chicken restaurant? And to complain there is no toy or healthy options? Hello? is anyone home?

MY REVIEW: Ok, finally had to see what all the fuss was about.

I ordered the two piece meal which comes with only 1 side, beans in my case. I ordered extra side of plantains and also a kids meal which has 1 leg, fries, and drink. Both of the sides were very good and not your usual gringo acommpaniments. The beans has both bacon and sausage for falvoring. I would have preferred a vegetarian option. The plantains were tasty but I suspect they are high in butter and sugar. The chicken was delicious as well. It wasnt spicy but had a different seasoning for the skin than a gringo place. Although very good, honestly, it was nothing extraordinary. It would not replace my occasional craving for spicy chicken from well known franchise.

Also I was disappointed that the kids meal doesnt come with a milk or juice option for the drink. I had to pick a carbonated bevereage for my son. It did not come with a toy either.

Overall the chicken and sides are good but nothing special. THe lack of healthy options is a disappointment also.

MY REVIEW: I think the other reviews were wrong. Took a suggestion from an employee and tried this place. First off, all fried chicken is not the same. I thought the chicken was very good and it is the different seasoning that makes it so good. I would say the chicken is broasted as opposed to fried. I think the chicken pieces are small compared to price. I like the fact you get to have sides like plantains, beans not straight from the can (had cilantro, jalapeno, onions other seasoings) and choice of three breads unlike the norm fries, cole slaw & mash potatoes (they also had these available to order). Will go back. If you want to try something different go to this place. It was very clean and friendly service.

MY REVIEW: After hearing people talk about freak chicken so much i decided to go try it out by myself an see what all the fuss was about. As soon as i walked in the door i was greeted by the employees very friendly, the first thing that caught my eyes were the prices WOW they were very very high, honestly what are they thinking there 2 piece meal with one side order an a bread or tortilla is around $5 when i can get the same thing at p*opeyes for $2. i asked the manager why is it so expensive an she told me because its the best chicken in town but it sucks!!! its the same from the other chicken places im very dissapointed.

MY REVIEW: The chicken is mediocre and the prices suck. It isn't unbearable but there are better places to eat in the area (i.e. B*oudreaux's Cajun, B*onnie's Beef & Barrel, and B*rady's Landing).

MY REVIEW: Prices...I just noticed yerterday 12/04/06 their special...16 pieces for 10.99....(drive through only, what kind of crap is that?) It's CHICKEN you are selling chicken not a cure for anything...In any kind of retail business, wether its food or clothes...you make money by VOLUME!!! The chicken is the same wether you are buying at P*opeyes, C*hurch's, K*FC or D*odo's Chicken (want some GREAT CHICKEN!, check that place out) Look they all get their chicken from the same place most chains do (SYSCO), specially if they have different locations and want the best wholesale price for the chicken, the cheaper their bulk of chicken is, their higer their profits. I give them this...they do have to charge more for their chicken....they have fewer location then those other franchises, so their per bulk price is a little higher....when you decide to eat K*FC, P*OPEYES, C*HURCH'S, etc...what your are really deciding is whose skin recipe am I in the mood for?

So.... POLLO CAMPERO...WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY....ITS ONLY CHICKEN...16 PIECS FOR 10.99 DARK MEAT ONLY....ITS ABOUT FREAKING TIME...AGAIN, ITS ONLY FREAKING CHICKEN!!!!!DRIVE THROUGH ONLY?....MAN U GUYS ARE SLOW...BUT U ARE GETTING THERE!!!!.....ITS ABOUT TIME THOUGH....ITS ABOUT TIME....

MY REVIEW: "Pollo Campero" in Guatemala is not the same as "Pollo Campero" in Houston. I lived in Guatemala many years and loved pollo campero, the taste, the quality, the service, the prices, you name it! But, I went to Pollo Campero here and it was an insult compared to what I grew up eating. They where out of most of what I ordered, then I order some chicken strips and had to wait 20 minutes and was told they would bring it to my table, thing that never happened. I had to get up and go look for my chicken and the worst part of it all is that it was not even worth the wait. I guess I will have to keep going to Guate to eat the real thing.

MY REVIEW: I visited the new location on S. Wayside Dr. twice this past weekend. I had the nuggets, beans, rice, and corn tortillas. I was wsrned that I most likely wouldn't like the chicken, but I did like it. The nuggets had an unique mild, spicey taste. The nuggets are as good as any nuggets and strips sold at other places. The beans and tortillas were good. I liked the rice even though the taste was closer to generic Spanish rice than unique authentic rice. The food was a little pricey. The restaurant appeared to want to appeal to Americans with English first translations. The staff was very friendly. The location, I was told, has been open about two weeks. I can see myself frequently visiting this restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I agree with the person that stated this is actually "Comfort" food for people from south of the border. Everyone has different tastes when it comes food. Some people like their Steak rare, while others love it well done. It's all a matter of preference (i.e. how they were introduced to food).

Personally, I love the chicken and reminds me of the times I spent in Mexico. yes, the spices are different, the taste is different, but that is how it is when foods are prepared using different recipes. I'd rather eat a Burger from B*ubba's Burger Shack as opposed to F*uddruckers, just like I would rather eat chicken from here, if I was nearby, as opposed to K*FC.

MY REVIEW: I love this chicken. The prices..that's another story. Maybe more people would go there if the prices were competable with other chicken places. I don't know why everyone makes an issue about "gringo" food and "latino" food. Food is Food, and we all eat every kind of food. I'm white but I eat chinese food, so All you people who say this chicken is only for "La Raza" sorry bud....chicken is chicken, and I like this chicken, I like the cole slaw w/ jalapenos, and I like the spicy beans...etc. If they lowered the prices I would probably go there every day.

MY REVIEW: I dont know what all the excitement about this place was for. Yuck is all I have to say. The mashed potatoes & gravy were not good-no seasoning at all & a very thick consistency. The chicken was not goo either-I dont even know how to say what was wrong with it, it was just not good. Very greasy, it had a very different texture to it-the crust that is. It was smooth for some reason. Even the roll wasnt good-it had an old taste to it or a not clean restaurant feel. I definitely will not be back & was glad that someone else bought my dinner here so that I didnt spend any of my money on it. I dont even think the coke I ordered was a real coke-it tasted like generic coke. I definitely will stick to P*peyes or K*C!

MY REVIEW: Well, the crowds thing has really mellowed out, at least on Mondays at 7:00.

Maybe three tables were full. So, this is the day to go, if you want a less frenetic 'dining' experience.

The chicken. Interesting crust, very crispy almost like a candied texture. Salty to the max. White meat was tough, chewy, not moist. Also overfried.

Two chicken breasts with no side orders cost $3.25.

MY REVIEW: Read lots of reviews about the chicken, but was very dissapointed with the taste. The price is too high for the chicken. Just a lot of hype. The ambiance is different than the traditional chicken chains but the food is not worth the price nor the drive. We won't be going there anymore....

MY REVIEW: I love this chicken. What you need to know is this isn't American-style chain chickens that are moist because they're hot from the vat. I don't care if it's bad fat or good fat but the next day they taste like cardboard.

I got a bunch of pieces of chicken for 7 bucks about 1pm one day. It tasted good but certainly on the dry side. It wasn't the chicken I like when I crave chicken on the run twice a year. However, there were 3 pieces left so I had one the next morning. THIS is what they should be promoting to gringos. Cold chicken from Pollo Campero tastes great! The flavor is still there, the spiciness is still there but there's no congealed fat. It doesn't taste like cardboard. It tastes as good as homemade chicken does the next day (even tho it's not my mama's chicken). So it's not a fast food place for me. It's a plan ahead and buy takeout for brunch the next day place.

MY REVIEW: It is ridiculously priced. A small meal came to a total of nearly $7.00. Where you can go across the street and get more chicken for your money. The seasonings were okay. But not what I expected after having to wait for 2 months till the lines outside died down. I wont go there anymore. Soon it'll be like a one hit wonder.

MY REVIEW: This chicken must be comfort food to those who grew up with it, much like White Castle Hamburgers and Church's Chicken are. The chicken was so so, and jut as greasy as any other fast food chicken I have tasted. At least the chicken was piping hot, but the french fries were cold. I won't be back.
