Giannotti's Italian Argentinean Cafe (CLOSED)

 6539 Bissonnet St Houston TX

MY REVIEW: Great place with a cute little argentine grocery store in the back. Fresh pasta and sandwiches. Good argentine empanadas. Personally I like this place better than M*anena's. It's probably the best Argentine place within Houston's city limits.

The only thing is that the area is very ghetto. But Bissonnet (west of the city of Bellaire) is probably the most diverse street in Houston (both sides of 59/beltway area) as there's not a pupuseria, cuban, mexican, jamaican, vietnamese, mediterranean place, etc too far off. It's worth the drive to this area to also sample the diversity of cuisines. Considering the diversity and numerous latin americans in the area, they've probably found a diamond in the rough.

MY REVIEW: Pasta made fresh right on the premises--can't beat that. Great sauces, too. The location is great, right across from a Little League park, but it's a lunch-only place, so you can't go there after a weeknight game. Other plusses: real Italo-Argentinians hang out there and provide the little bit of atmosphere the place can claim; Quilmes lager is available, which is good for a mass-produced brew. Other drawbacks: plastic utensils, paper or styro plates, uncomfortable seats. Recommendation: go during the afternoon and get a few pounds of pasta and sauce to go.
