MY REVIEW: My in-laws were celebrating their anniversary and there were 10 of us. We needed a place to celebrate for dinner. My father-in-law loves Japanese buffet but most of them are awfully expensive for dinner. I found Kirin on b4-u-eat and saw some good reviews so here is mine:
Strong points: Food was good and probably better tasting than other Japanese buffet. The king crab legs were meaty and moist (not dry). They had a grilled fish that was awesome! Service was good too.
Weak points: SMALL place. I was dissapointed it was not a little more upscale for $22 a person (dinner). The environment was as plain as your typical "7.99 chinese buffet". Kirin II was missing a soup (miso) station, tempura, and crepes. They also had a smaller selection of sushi.
All in all, I may go there for lunch ($12) again but dinner is somewhat pricey for what you get. I definitely would NOT consider it for special occassions (i.e. birthday, anniversary, etc).

MY REVIEW: I've been to Kirin an inumerable amount of times. I must admit, I mainly go there for their Crab Legs. They serve the Largest snow crab legs in Houston during the weekdays and they switch to King crab legs during the weekends. I have taken All of my friends and they all love it. The sushi is great and they keep fresh food on the buffet all of the time. I just absolutely love that place! I live down in Sugarland and I still drive all the way up to 1960 just to enjoy the wonderful food there. I usually leave there paying like 50-60 bucks for two people. That's including the full buffet, a large Hot Sake, tax and tips. LOVE IT!!!!!

MY REVIEW: Friendly staff, but lunch was less than expected. Sushi was average, buffet was lacking, and desserts were just OK.
In the past, I have enjoyed going to Kirin, but there are a ton of new places nearby that are less expensive, and offer more variety.
From now on, I'll be dining there.

MY REVIEW: Great place! I will have to say I am more than pleased with Kirin. I usually go to eat Sushi and pay at least $75 each time I go. Here at the Kirin, it's all you can eat, good quality sushi. It's well prepared, presented and obviously done by experienced Sushi chefs. Normally at a buffet the Sushi is very basic but this place offers the BEST choices of Sushi with all different kinds. You can even ask the chef to make you whatever you want. I will definitely keep going back to this place, not to mention the selection of Japanese food. You will spend a little over $50 per couple but isn't this what you would spend when going to a Sushi restaurant and ordering from the menu? This place is all you can eat Sushi and Japanese food that keeps you coming back! Hands down to the Sushi chefs and the clean, inviting atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: Food is fresh and tasty for a buffet, not to mention quantity. Staff is always friendly. If you don't like sashimi, I would go there for lunch since it costs more for dinner. I think this one is better than the other Kirins on the South part of town because it has a more comfortable environment.

MY REVIEW: We've been dining in this restaurant for almost 4 years, it'd always been great. Under the new management, greater service and better food. Love their staff there, super friendly! HOWEVER, there's a huge disappointment of this new management. I'd witnessed one complain incident and the male manager was responded poorly and disrepectful. Seems like he didn't treasure his customers! Big mistake!

MY REVIEW: is under new management - but they are trying - was known by name before - with old management - the new ones have done away with the fresh baby squid and some other things which is a shame - but all in all it is good value and variety for ur money - definetely give it a try

MY REVIEW: Almost everybody knows me here..and I've eaten here enough times to say that it used to be good, but not anymore. I haven't eaten here for two months and I was really craving some good shrimp tempura handrolls and some food on the hot buffet. Everything sucked!!! The tofu skin was dry...shrimp tempura roll just wasn't that great...the spicy squid that i used to love...they changed the sauce up somehow and it didn't taste great either...I guess it's because of the new management or something...but it was just horrible in my opinion... I don't think i'll be craving it anymore!

MY REVIEW: This is one of the best buffet resturants I have visited. Don't let the buffet service fool you. The food is prepared as if you ordered it a la carte. The sushi is as good as any I have eaten at an order by the piece resturant. The service is excellent. They have many dishes that you would not expect to see on a buffet and they also make sushi to order, so if you dont see it on the table, just ask. The price is consistent with the quality of food. I have eaten here several times, including my birthday, and have never been disapointed. The only complaint my wife has it the atmosphere, which is quiet and relaxing.

MY REVIEW: The best sushi buffet in Houston. Service is exceptional! We try to visit at least once a week and never get tired of their food. Fresh, fresh, fresh.

MY REVIEW: It wasn't too bad, and there were a lot of choices on the buffet. However, the sushi rice wasn't very flavorful, and it was a little dry and hard. The service was average. An extra $2 is a good deal for all that sushi, but I would spend a little extra money and eat at T*odai.

MY REVIEW: Went on a saturday nite and the place was pack as usual. I saw 4 or 5 new items on the menu (most notable were spinach stuffed red snapper, shrimp creole and flan). Talking to our regular waitress, Cindy, she said that there was a new kitchen chef. This place really rock. All the sushi and hot food you can eat, including yellow tail, uni and unagi, for only $19.95. This place even has oyster on the half shell, snow crab leg and lamb chop. There is something here for everyone; young and old. You gotta check this place out. I guess a lot of people have because there was a 15 minutes wait.

MY REVIEW: Excellent food, high price. Dinner buffet - $17, lunch buffet $12. Worth the price however, good fresh quality seafood. The crab rangoon puffs are delightful. Not a sushi fan, but is supposed to be incredibly good here and is only an additional 2 bucks on the buffet. Great seafood!

MY REVIEW: The food is awful, swervice is very slow and unfriendly. There were many tables empty, but the host make us to wait for 30mins, with no smile no sorry on face. The witress hardly come pick up the empty plates, and refill our drinks. I would never dine in this restaurant ever again, it a bad experience.

MY REVIEW: I have lived in Houston for only three months and was craving sashimi and sushi. I am from Hawaii where we can easily get fresh sashimi and sushi. I was so happy w/ the quality and variety of sushi they had here that I felt as if I was back home in Hawaii. The waitstaff is "on it" and so friendly and with the price of $18.95 for hot food line and sushi bar you can't go wrong. We will definitely dine here again!!!! Aloha!!!

MY REVIEW: The place was very clean and the waitstaff were really nice. Sushi was fair, cause I felt that their sushi rice didn't have enough taste to it. But other then that, dessert was good, fruits were fresh, and seafood was fresh tasting, especially the salmon that was soooo perfectly flavored. And it's all you can eat at a reasonable price. Planning on going back again.

MY REVIEW: KIRIN IS DEFINITELY THE BEST BUFFET I'VE EVER HAD. NOT ONLY IS THE SELECTION ENDLESS IT IS FRESH, FRESH, AND MORE FRESH.IF SOMETHING RUNS OUT THEY ARE QUICK TO BRING MORE OUT AT YOUR REQUEST. THE SEAFOOD BUFFET IS GREAT. IF YOUR HEART IS SET ON SUSHI OR SASHIMI YOU WILL BE HAPPY TO KNOW THIS IS THE FRESHEST I'VE HAD EATEN AND THE FACT THAT IT CAME FROM A BUFFET DOESN'T HURT. I LOVE THE FACT THAT I CAN ARRIVE AND THERE IS NO WAITING FOR A TABLE HOWEVER, THE RESTAURANT ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE FULL. FROM THE MOMENT MY FAMILY AND I WALK IN WE ARE SEATED AND EATING IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. I WANTED TO ADD THE WAITSTAFF ARE GREAT THEY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE HAPPY.ALMOST FORGOT THE PRICE IS GREAT.

MY REVIEW: The first time I stepped into this Japanese Seafood Buffet, I thought I was seeing a mirage: a roughly 20 foot long sushi bar/buffet, laden with every sort of sushi delight known to man. From ebi to unagi, from California rolls to Philly rolls, this bar had a little of everything. At least a dozen varieties each of both nigiri and maki are usually available, along with a medley of sashimi. But Kirin is not just sushi, my friends...no, it is much, much more.
Adjacent to the sushi bar is another and longer buffet. It is a veritable cornucopia of both seafood and Asian delights. At one end, you will find huge trays of icy cold crab legs, boiled shrimp, and oysters on the half shell; on the other end, everything from miso soup to roasted quail to more standard Pan-Asian stir-fries and tempura. Mixed in with this are a few items of more exotic fare such as huge stuffed prawns and king crab claws. Perhaps the centerpiece of the hot buffet is the whole filet of salmon cooked in a succulent sauce.
Last but not least is a dessert bar with half a dozen different desserts, fresh fruit, a selection of salads and some interesting items like beef sashimi. The wine list features a bevy of both imported and domestic beer, not to mention wine and sake.
All this for a mere $16.95 on Friday and Saturday nights. Freshness and cleanliness are both impeccable, and I defy anyone to find a comparable experience anywhere. Don't miss out on what could easily be the best Japanese meal of your life!

MY REVIEW: If you like to eat food THIS IS IT. I mean let's get down!!!!! Dinner for $19.95 and it's all you can eat. When others go for Dessert, I go back to the Shushimi. Just can not stop. Have stayed for Three hours and have never been told "YOU GO NOW". This IS my favorite place to eat out. My wife will not ask me where I want to go out to eat anymore because she knows I will say KIRINS.
I used to go to KIRINS on Westheimer, but the 1960 location is far better food and atmosphere. Great place to take anyone. Lunch is great, but the Spider Hand Rolls and the Shushimi make skipping lunch and waiting for dinner worth the wait. As with all Buffet type Resturants go early for the best quality (and so you can stay longer).
