MY REVIEW: Guadalajara Bakery / Taqueria has been open since the early 70's. It is a family run business, and the reason it's still open is the quality of the food. The Cook, is 71 years old and has been cooking there since the place opened, she is also the Owner. There are no measuring cups for the ingredients, everything is measured by the spoonful, and you always get the same great result, the food is simply outstanding.
The wait in line is actually not that bad even if the crowd is to the door. What you have to remember is once you tell them how many tacos you want, they have to go to the back and help roll out the tortillas and then cook them for you. The tortillas are made fresh, and if eaten alone they are delicious, but when you add the fillings, they are addicting.
The barbacoa is slow cooked every night and is the best I've ever had. The roast beef with potatoes and pork with red sauce are two of my favorites. The food that you will find on a daily basis at Guadalajara Bakery / Taqueria is the hamburger meat with potatoes, refried beans, eggs with chorizo, chicarones, and barbacoa. The roast beef, pork with red sauce, eggs and potatoes, eggs and nopales (castus), are cook only on certain days. The hot sauce is also made fresh at the Bakery, it's made at least twice a week, depending on how fast it goes into the tacos.
Once you've eaten at Guadalajara Bakery / Taqueria, you'll understand why people keep going back. Rumor has it though that Guadalajara Bakery will be closing it's doors soon. The building where this family business has been for so many years has been sold, and will force the business to close. Enjoy the place while it's still open, because it will soon be just a good memory.

MY REVIEW: This place has been open for as long as I can remember. I'm in my late 20's now and have been going here with my family since I was a young child growing up in the very same neighborhood. This is a family owned and operated place. You will see some of the same people that have been working there for years and will even see the children, now grown up working there as well.
Don't let the bakery in "Guadalajara Bakery" fool you. Their signatures are the tacos and menudo (weekends only) and they have a small, but good/fresh selection of mexican style sweet breads and cookies (pan dulce).
Guadalajara is run a bit differently than most places. If you are going for the very first time, most likely you will not know what to do. Let me just say that there are no menus, no waiters, and no directions. Parking can be a bit of a problem, especially during the peak times (early mornings and weekends). You can find some parking either on the side street, maybe in front, or across the street. Don’t let that stop you from going in though. Once you are in, its time to get in line. During peak hours, you may encounter a line out the door. It’s probably wise to get back in your car and come at another time unless you don’t mind waiting 15-20-30 mins to order. Ok, so you stuck it out or got lucky and the line was short. Most who go here are regulars, just do what they do… stay calm and wait your turn. The people behind the counters all speak Spanish, some do speak English and will help you out when ordering. They are usually extremely busy and somewhat friendly. Once you finally make it up to the counter, you will need to let the lady or gentleman know how many tacos you wish to order b/c they have to go to the back and get them for you. Everything is made fresh here, including the tortillas which come hot off the stove. The tacos are pretty small so order according to your hunger level. Once you give your order, they will do one of two things, go back into the kitchen and roll out the tortillas themselves, or if they are well staffed, someone will bring them out to them. This is your time to look over the steam table where the taco fillings are and decide what you want. You will find very down-home (old school) mexican style fillings for your tacos like barbacoa, refried beans, scrambled egg w/ chorizo, shredded roast beef w/ potatoes, hamburger meat w/ potatoes (picadillo), chicharrones (cooked pork skins) w/ chili and a few others. The selection may vary and everything is cooked fresh and replaced thru out the day. If you can tolerate a little heat, try their salsa, it is very very good. Once your tacos are made, you can order drinks and get some pan dulce. Be sure to have cash on you, they don’t accept anything else. You can either eat in or order to go. The dining area is very clean and small, with the back dining area opened only on the weekends.
If you are looking to try some old homemade favorites, this is a good place to go. The regulars who frequent the place come from all over. You may see some people in suits in line along with construction workers. If you haven’t been back in years, going back again you will find that nothing has changed. There is this sign up, that says something like no bills over $20. I swear this is the same sign they have had up for over 20 years!!! Sure the place could use some upgrading, but with the tons of people who go there everyday, why fix what ain't broke??
