The service was even worse. They were not busy but we did not see our server except to take the order and toss the bill on the table. The busboy delivered the food. The appetizer was delivered after the entrees. Our glasses were never filled. The food lacked any seasoning. The CFS batter was soggy, my steak was supposed to be med/rare and it was raw. I repeat: the place was empty with maybe 4 tables with customers. There was no excuse for the lack of service. The servers were standing on the bar steps chatting with each other instead of doing their jobs. Management really needs to make some changes. Maybe next year. The service and food quality has changed a lot in the past few years. We used to go there 2-3x a month and now we only go about once every 4-6 months, and that's just to remind ourselves why we stopped going. Changes for the worst: 1. they changed their ranch and blue cheese salad dressings. They're no longer thick and flavorful, but taste like cheap bottled dressings. 2. Someone has forgotten how to make their stuffed jalapenos and cactus bloom onions. The last 3 times they've been greasy and cold in the middle. I know the stuffed jalapenos are frozen, but it would be nice if they weren't still so when they were served. 3. Something odd is going on with their bread, which is now rolls. The flavor is overly yeasty and they have a much chewier texture. 4. Going to a salad bar instead of individual salads was ok, but now it's almost "serve yourself" for everything: bread, potatoes, soups, etc. When I'm paying $20 a person for a meal, I like to actually be waited on. 5. What happened to serving vegetables all week? Now you have to get potatoes as a side except for Saturday night and Sunday? What gives? Good points: 1. On Sunday you can't beat their Prime Rib special. The flavor is really great and they still know how to cook a steak to order. 2. The fajita steak is flavorful and tender. 3. Salad bar is usually fresh and has a decent variety. 4. Service is normally good, though not always excellent, even when they're busy. 5. Portion sizes are good. Not huge, not small. 6. MY REVIEW: I've only been to Cactus Grill once, but the rest of my family live in the area and are frequent visitors. I ordered chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. The chicken fried steak was VERY tough and hard to chew, and for some reason was served without any gravy. I requested gravy twice before any was brought out. The 'mashies' were superb, and obviously home made. I could make a meal on those alone. The service was subpar. The restaurant has a policy of automatically including the tip for parties of 8 or more, which is fine. However, there were 7 adults and one 5 month old baby in our party, and obviously the baby didn't require any of the server's time or effort. I have a feeling this was done intentionally, since the waitress knew she was likely not going to receive 15% as a tip. The 1st time, was a very bad experence bad, service, food that was orederd was not what was deliverd, and when asked for a member of managment I was told they did not have any and the owner was not there. 2n time the service and the food was exellant. The 3rd time and the last was tonight at 5:00 pm. We were seated promtly and that was the end of the service. The waitress took our drink order and 30 min later we still had not been asked for a dinner order. There was only 2 other tables that had CUSOMERS. Great steaks, my wife loves the chicken fried steak. Very good salad bar. Not to pricey either. Have always had good service so far. We are going to Cactus Grill today for lunch. In my opinion Cactus Grill is one of the best restraunts in the Brazosport area. I highly recomend.
