MY REVIEW: Undoubtedly the best pasteries/bread in town. As I would say, "real bread" (i.e. no preservatives etc). Quaint location with proximity to the library and museums. Fresh, good quality ingredients and a place where the staff remembers your favorite drink and sandwich. Excellent in its simplicity! A coffee shop/cafe that is perfect for its location in the museum district.

Weak points - I think everyone has caught onto a good thing. The wait time can sometimes be a little long. But se la vie!

MY REVIEW: I had to post a review because I had one of the most awesome tuna salad sandwiches here recently. I've ordered it before, but I thought it may have been a fluke because different people man the counter and make the food and things may get mixed up in the mix, but no, it has consistently been a great tuna salad sandwich: white albacore tuna, sliced egg, swiss or provolone cheese, mixed greens, red onion, drizzle of balsamic vinegar on their crusty, chewy, SUPER Kraft'smen's bread. And it was filling but did not make you feel stuffed.

Their desserts are pretty good--linzer torte, almond croissant, zuchinni bread, cookie. I also love their quiche and soups--the soups are quite superb, actually and they run out of it fast. Nice atmosphere--one could be comfortable alone or with friends, quiet or ambient music, comfortable seating, patio. Pretty cool neighborhood place. I'm glad it's around--particulary because the food is excellent.

MY REVIEW: A bakery for bakers. The best breads and croissanta in town. Not overproofed, and if a bread doesn't turn out right for whatever reason they simply don't sell it that day. I know-because the baker himself is sometimes at the Midtown Farmer's Market on Saturdays and I really wanted rye, but her said he didn't have any because it didn't turn out right. I so appreciate that. I'm sick of places that turn out crap, thinking that the public won't know the difference, and, well, many times they don't. But ( and as a former bread baker and pastry chef) taking personal pride and responsiblity for your work and not selling it when it isn't right is a HUGE POINT in my book.

Kraftsmen ROCKS. Any coffee you get there will rock (if the counter person isn't too new!!) Both their brands Illy and the local Katz's (not the restaurant) are highest quality-and so are their teas. The soups as glorified by a previous reviewer are right on-everything soup should be-light, nourishing for body and soul.

If I have a criticism, it is the lunch time sandwich set up-very inefficent-and I HATE that customers lean over the sneeze/hand guard to point at the ingredients on the sandwich bar. That's why that plexi-glass is there-to keep the public's germy hands and faces out of the food!! So respect it, please!!

MY REVIEW: I simply love kraftsmen. For years I had been searching for delicious soup, but could not find any in town. I would think back to that one particular Seinfeld episode with the soup nazi and wondered why there was never a place in houston with soup that good. I know the obvious reasons for why Houston may not have a craze for soup, which would be the weather. but i simply think it ridiculous that weather would determine the availability of something so simple and satisfying as a good cup of soup. The only type of soup i really see around is the chunky assortment. i can buy that anywhere, i can buy it in a can. The type of soup i was looking for was an absolutely flavorful thin variety. I found that type of soup when i found kraftsmen a year ago. The best soup i had there was the cauliflower soup and i await its return with great anticipation. it was buttery and slighty garlicy and refreshing as it went down my throat. When you get soup there they slice you up a couple of pieces of bread, and it varies. That is how i discovered the most delicious bread ever and that was their rosemary garlic bread. This bread has a bit of spiciness to it with a deep flavor. The actual loaf has whole pieces of garlic , it is beautiful. I thought to myself how could something so simple as bread and soup be so brilliant, so satisfying so perfect. I wanted to eat nothing else but these two things forever. When one feels this way about food, then it is in the precise moment that one realizes they have found true satisfaction , found something absolutely delicious without doubt.

MY REVIEW: THE best croissants in Houston, hands down. Light, airy, flaky, buttery--simply perfect. I stop in for a chocolate or almond croissant nearly every morning; the coffee's good, too, and the staff is very nice. I've always wanted to have lunch there, and finally did this week. It was a little disappointing--I wanted everything to be as wonderful as the croissants, but alas. The potato soup was flavorful, but with a watery sort of consistency, not at all thick. The chicken salad was not very cold and the chicken tasted sort of, well, canned. So I ate half of my meal and left with a croissant to go. And wouldn't you know it--after sitting out in the case since morning, the croissant was a little chewy. I'll be back--but I think I'll stick with my morning coffee and pastries.

MY REVIEW: Seriously this is my favorite spot in HOuston. It has a great location although parking is scarce but all great places are that way.

Easily the best coffee I have ever had. The sandwiches are to die for . SO simple yet tasty . This is a great place to hang out and have coffee or run in for a quick healthy lunch. The bread is good too.

I cant say enough good things about this place

MY REVIEW: After having tasted their wonderful Challah bread at an event on Friday night, I decided my wife and I needed to check this place out. I had read and heard about how Krafts'men Baking makes everything from hand using only the finest high quality ingredients. It sounded interesting, so we made it a point to stop by on Sunday morning.

Krafts'men Baking is tucked away on Montrose between the Black Labrador and a City of Houston Library. We were surprised when we found out they only make a half of dozen or so of types of breads and a small selection of wonderful looking pastries. Unlike other bakeries, this place gave me the impression of being more of a coffee shop/internet café, rather then a bakery. They also sell chocolates, different type waters, teas, and juices, sandwiches made on their bread products and of course coffee.

We bought a turkey, avocado, bacon, brie cheese sandwich to take with us. It sounded great, but I expected more avocado and brie. The bread was definitely a true French quality with a wonderfully crunchy crust. For "dessert" we had croissant with chocolate inside it. The croissant was wonderful.

Krafts'men Baking is a very clean modern place, with both nice indoor and outdoor seating. On low humidity mornings I can imagine sitting outside would be really nice.

Reviewer “X” will definitely be back again to try more of the items that Krafts'men Baking specializes on, the breads and pastries. In the future, Reviewer “X” may have to just buy their breads and make his own sandwiches though!
