MY REVIEW: I got to Burns BBQ every time I am in Houston. When I lived in Houston it was a frequent thing, but when I moved to NC, I really missed getting mouthwatering, tender beef brisket like that at Mr. Roy's place. Burns BBQ is the best and the prices are good. He is now selling his famous sauce online and it is in some of the HEB stores as well. I am really glad. Here in NC, when you mention BBQ, everyone thinks about chopped pork with vinegar and pepper sauce on it YUK!!. they don't even sell brisket in the stores here. I have to find a meat market to get one. They are open Thurs, Fri and Sat until about 3pm.. Sold out by then.

MY REVIEW: I have to admit I have never visited the infamous Burns Bar B Q. I have often heard people talk about it and rave on the taste. Well low and behold I went today for lunch. I was impressed with food. I will have to say there is no better Que like your own, but it is quite good. Yes the parking is not good. The place is small, but the food is palatable. The ribs were moist and meaty, the brisket and sausage were moist as well. Not crazy about the Potato Salad or the Ranch Style Beans. I've had better. All in all it was a good experience.

MY REVIEW: Great BBQ. Whoever said this is cooked in an oven is flat out wrong. Roy Burns (the founder / owner) is a BBQ legend in the Houston area and I've been wanting to try this place out ever since I read about his history with BBQ and the restaurant.

The pros:
Cheapest food I've ever seen in my life. A BBQ sandwich was $3 flat, and twice the size of a BBQ sandwich you'd find at any other restaurant in houston. Myself and the people I went with had enough to feed at least 10 people, and it was a mere $40.

Real old-style traditional flavor. This isn't your Pappas BBQ. It's not "seasoned" with all kinds of additional spices and flavors. When you eat their BBQ brisket you will experience exactly 1 flavor on your palette. Smoked brisket. Meat is juicy as heck, and cooked to perfection.

Cons: It's in a pretty bad area. When I read about it originally I was thinking "well surely it will at least be in some semblance of a shopping center. No. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood in a converted house across the street from a church that probably holds 7 people. The group I was with was on our lunch break from work, so naturally we were dressed business casual, and I can tell you that pretty much all of us felt out of place. I didn't really feel in danger at any time, but out of place, oh yes. Don't pull up to this place in your mercedes talking on your cell phone wearing a golf shirt around your neck, I'll say that much. The menus are hand-written with a marker on pieces of cardboard and then stapled to the wall.

CASH ONLY. No debit, no credit. Cash only.

Limited seating. There's 2-3 tables, all outdoors. If it's raining, you're eating in the car probably.

All that being said, I'd definitely go back. The BBQ is oh so worth it. But as another person said, I probably wouldn't go in the afternoon / evening.

MY REVIEW: Definitely not BBQ. The brisket was cooked in an oven. Not smoke taste whatsoever. But, if you have a craving for oven-cooked brisket, you do get a lot of meat on the sandwich.

MY REVIEW: I saw this place on a news segment and couldn't wait to try them out. Needless to say I was not disappointed by any means. The homemade sausage is my favorite, but on my visit I also tried the chopped beef, pork ribs and regular links and it was all delicious. I can't wait to return

MY REVIEW: I have to say that this is one of the best bar-b-cue places in Houston. I went Friday and went back Saturday. I don't know why I have never written a review about it. The ribs, brisket, homemade old fashioned links are the best. If you want the links you have to get there early because, they sell out so fast!! I missed them Friday but, I got there about 11:30 on Saturday and, you barely could find anywhere to park. The potato salad is great, not the white looking stuff that some places sell, and the beans are very good too. I started going here in the early 90's. Oh, the sides sell out fast too!! They didn't have anymore on Friday by the time my son went to get the cue. They are from Baton Rouge, so he didn't know the drill like I do. They are closed on Sun, Mon, and Tuesday. They open at 10:30. Keep cueing Mr. Burns and Family.

MY REVIEW: I love good BBQ! I will drive hours to taste some legendary BBQ. Burn's is no exception to amazing food. The atmosphere is awesome...really down-home. I heard about this place on Food Network from Anthony Bourdain. I would trust this man to prepare my last meal if I had the choice. He leads no one astray. The place is dirty, unkept, there are flies everywhere...that is obviouslly the recipe for unbelievably perfect BBQ. It's worth the drive, its worth just about anything to eat here.

MY REVIEW: I live in Cypress and drive to Acres Homes to get the great taste of Burns BarBQ. While standing in line you are amongst a mixture of locals and non-locals...where locals eat is usually the best. Get there early to avoid long lines esp. the day before a holiday...never waited longer than thirty minutes...well worth the time. The staff is always pleasant and works diligently to serve everyone as quickly as possible. The homemade sausage is to die for. Great food all around.

MY REVIEW: I've been to Burns many times, all of my family goes there as well. If you don't know the area, it won't be the easiest place to find, its a "neighborhood" secret...This is the best Houston BBQ I've ever eaten. I see many complaints below about them stocking food, but if they have such great bbq, and they are a local restaurant, its not a bad thing that they run out of items every so often...Why do you think they run out? My only complaint is their bus. hours--Weds. thru Sat. But then again, why be open 7 days/wk when you can make all the income you need working 4(i'd personally love a 4 day workweek!)? BBQ sauce is good, ribs are amazing. This place is only 2nd best to E*lgin BBQ. If any of you are on your way to Austin anytime, stop there. It's on 290 just before Austin...

MY REVIEW: I finally got around to trying Burns BarBQ yesterday afternoon (Saturday) for the first time. We got brisket, ribs and potato salad. The brisket was very tasty but just a little on the dry side. The sauce was very good, but then I wouldn’t have used sauce if the brisket had not been dry. Good brisket should stand on its own without needing sauce.

The ribs were very good – meaty, tender and flavorful. However, they weren’t very hot, and they had a slight taste like they had been sitting around for quite a few hours. There are many styles of potato salad, and theirs is my favorite!

I would go back just for the potato salad, and I will go back and give Burns another try. I will also give W*illiams Smokehouse a try since they are in the same area.

MY REVIEW: This is the most flavorful tasty Bar B Que that is smoked, not oven baked or boiled. Wood flavor. Sometimes if they are extremely busy they run out of meat and beans and potatoe salad. I spoke with Mr. Burns and he shared with me the reason why they run out of beans and salad is because it is made fresh daily. Nothing is held overnight. Nothing last overnight. If you want tender ribs, smoked flavored beef and their own specially made links, Burns Bar B Que is it.

MY REVIEW: Burns is okay. I battled 45N from the southwest side of Houston for BBQ. The drive wasn't worth it. I was disappointed because they were out of onions, buns, potato salad and CAKE. Keep in mind they only offer potato salad and beans as far as sides. No chips for sandwiches surprised me. I guess since business is so GOOD it doesn't matter if they lose a few customers for not having the adequate amount of product. I ordered a combo plate which offered ribs, sausage and sliced beef. As mentioned all items were okay. If you live in the vicinity then fine, but it's not worth the drive. The following day a friend that lives in the neighborhood (Acres Home) asked me to give Burns another chance. He ordered me the chopped beef sandwich and a slice of lemon cake. Both items were excellent. Oh yeah the sauce was good....and they did have buns the following day. The restaurant itself needs an entire make over but I guess what comes out is most important to the owners. To conclude the only way I will eat Burns again, which will only consist of a sandwich and a slice of cake, will be if my friend picks it up for me.

MY REVIEW: I'd consider their sauce as a beverage it's so good. I emailed the HPress food critic and he had wished he had been there before he wrote his que book. We found the place bytracking down the phone number on the wall during the food channel show about it. GO GO GO

MY REVIEW: Burns is a local institution that has some incredible food. I know that because when I was working in Houston 3 years ago, we went every week. It hasn't changed. The owners had given us a tour of their smoking facilities before and it was like being in meat heaven. They smoke briskets and ribs for a minimum of 6 hours, no boiling, no oven. They use hickory logs and all of their food is incredible. The sauce is a tangy, spicy mixture with vinegar and is an excellent compliment to the meat.

Note that the meat is not the only thing that sells out. The baked beans are a homemade mix of beans, mixed in with meat (not fat) trimmings from the brisket and ribs. It is rich, thick and a meal in itself. It sells out by 7:00PM typically, and they do run out of it.

The potato salad is also homemade. A nice mix of mayo and mustard with a tang and it complements everything.

Desserts are your superb homemade southern sweets - an excellent pecan pie and a sweet potato pie.

Parking is only for pickup. Cash only. The neighborhood looks questionable, but this is a working class neighborhood. If someone has to tell you to be respectful to guests and neighbors, don't bother going. If you do go, you will be rewarded with some of Houston's best.

MY REVIEW: Saturday around noon. Place was very busy. I ordered sliced brisket sandwich. Lots of meat on white bread. Meat was tender but tasteless. No smoke flavor. I'm wondering if it spent more time in oven than smoker. Sauce was not very good either but I don't judge a BBQ place by their sauce. I'll try back as one vist is not enough to judge a BBQ place by. So many people hauling off so much food that they must have something good.

MY REVIEW: This is a neighborhood BBQ "joint" (in the good sense). Carry out only. They seem to doing a very brisk business on the Saturday afternoon we stopped by. Friendly folks all hanging around waiting for their number to be called.

The sliced beef was served w/ white bread and a dollop of sauce. There was a good crust on the meat and the smoke ring extended about 1/4 inch. To be fair, they had run out of brisket earlier and this batch had just come out of the smoker. It was very good BBQ but I'll bet if you catch them on a quieter day the meat will be even better. Very moist, tender, and flavorful.

The sauce was a tangy, spicy, vinegar based creation. I would have liked a bit more but Peg thought it was just right. You'll have to try it and decide for yourself. The flavor was excellent.

The location is in an older part of town that's seen better years. We were quite comfortable there in the daytime although an evening visit might be problematic. That seems to be common w/ the good BBQ joints around town.
