Captain Wick's Seafood

MY REVIEW: After putting some pretty serious effort into finding good seafood in Seabrook, the list of viable options has been winnowed down to one - Captain Wick's Seafood. It's simply the only place in seabrook that hasn't been wrestled to the ground by the boring-menu cornstarch-thickened canned-bamboo-shoot-laden Bland Monster. The flavors are bright, complex, intense, the way seafood ought to be. The shrimp is a perfect mix of well-executed standards of variety seafood with intense shrimp flavor. (Buffet or menu) Prices are excellent, service is attentive and efficient, even across language barriers. That's why it's constantly packed, of course -- if you want fresh seafood on Sunday, get there before it opens or risk waiting an hour or more.

MY REVIEW: Where do I start? I read the reviews and even had friends recomend captain Wicks, So I couldnt wait to try it. I wish I had'nt. It cost me 35.78 for me and my son. We ate outside on the porch, which was very nice, and thats the end of my great experience. The food was not very good, I did enjoy the tarter sauce, which is a good thing it helped the food alot. We never got any refills on our drinks either.I also do not like a restraunt to add gratuity to the bill, I like to leave a tip myself. I live in Houston, and I drove 39 miles to get there. I should have stayed home and cooked.

MY REVIEW: We've been visiting Kemah for many years, even before the "Boardwalk" was built. While we enjoy the new side of Kemah, we miss the old side. Captain Wick's is about the only place left on the old side....and there must be a reason.
The place is "famous" for it's all-you-can-eat seafood buffet but you can also order a la carte. For $14.99 on weekends (cheaper on weekdays), it's a bargain!
THe previous poster must have had an off day. My husband is very picky about his seafood...if it's not fresh, he'll let you know. And when we went this last time, he said "that hit the spot".
Most of the items on the menu are fried (fried shrimp, fish, crabs, calamari)...but they also have fresh shrimp, mussels and a variety of side dishes including the Philippine pancit. Dessert isn't fancy....mostly fruit, both fresh and canned. The salads were decent.
The ambience is tropical....very casual. The waiters very attentive. The porch is a treat on a nice day.
If you don't like what you see on the buffet line, I'm sure if you ask one of the staff for something fresh from the kitchen, they will accomodate. Filipinos are known to be very hospitable people...and I'm sure they will try their best to please.

MY REVIEW: We have seen this resturant for many years while purchsing fresh shrimp across the street. We were again down there buying fresh seafood to take home and cook when the wife suggested we give them a try instead of going through all the hassles of doing your own. All I can say we really do disagree with the other reviews on this resturant. Me and my wife with another couple in tow couldn't beleive what we had gotten ourselves in. The fried shrimp was frozen pop corn shrimp! The oysters actually stunk! If you decide to go, don't make the mistake we did, go look at the buffet before you are seated! I noticed they will try to seat you very quick if you try to check it out before sitting....... We will not be back...:(

MY REVIEW: I used to go to Captain Wicks several times a year and would still go but I don't think it is wheelchair accessible. The food has always been good. The atmosphere is nice, especially on the balcony during nice weather. One time, a buddy of mine added quite a few oyster shells either to the parking lot or the mound directly behind the restaurant. He ate 11 dozen oysters. If he had not eaten other items on the buffet, he would have made been able to eat a gross. As soon as I can make it up the steps or find out an alternative way to get up the steps, I will be heading there post haste. This is such a nice place to go and convenient to get to via the Freeways and Hwy 146. I really enjoy this restaurant a lot.

MY REVIEW: Good stuff!!! I have always loved their food. This is a nice family of Philipino people that are always polite, and make things very nice. Fresh food everyday, everytime. My dad literally eats there almost everyday. I would too but I live in Houston. Great food, great people check it out!
