Everytime I think of Hunan Garden I think of how yummy and fresh their food is. They have the best Soft Noodles anyone can make!! BUT unfortunately.... It stinks in there. The building is old and it has a fuuny smell.... Can't pin point the smell but it is tolerable and therefore I eat there 3 or 4 times a week. The staff is great and very helpful! She was rude to me and said, "Not now ,later! I'm busy!" I was astonished by her actions. She almost hung up on me without even asking me for my fax number. I decided not to eat there but my coworkers insisted, so we ordered togo instead. We ordered eggrolls, sesame beef, general tso chicken, and their special lo-mein. I love chinese hunan food, but this was just unacceptable! I am familiar with Hunan style dishes but this just wasnt right. The sesame beef first of all, the beef tasted really old. It was more like honey beef with a thick batter of sugar. It was so sweet I couldn't take a second bite. You can never go wrong with general tso chicken, but this one, the batter was too thick and it was full of fat!!! The lo mein also didn't taste good. It was way too sweet. With that kind of price range, the food at least should have been decent. The waitstaff was not friendly at all either. I do not recommend this place especially to diabetics. I grew up on Hunan Garden's Special chow mein and Moo Goo Gai Pan. I have since tried everything on the menu, and you cannot go wrong. The pan fried pork dumplings are incredible. The sesame and orange beef are also favorites. The non-spicy dishes are never bland like other restaurants. The hostess and waitstaff are always friendly, and make you feel at home. We live in Sugarland now and have tried many of the Chinese restaurants in the area and none can compare to Hunan Garden. Absolutely the best!! And been to many chiness restraunts in Houston. Hunan is hands down the best. the crab puffs are the bomb, and seasme chicken is the best. Huge plates they're meant to be shared with everyone for only about 10 bucks for an entree. soup and egg roll are 2 bucks more. You will need a to go box for sure. wait staff is friendly as they come. and not just thank you sir come again. You can carry on very pleasant conversations. And don't forget to try the plum wine. The staff is kind and always ready to fill your tea glass. The atmosphere is comfortable and intimate. The portions are gigantic so I prefer to go at lunch time and order from the lunch menu. They also have a very classy Sunday brunch buffet that has had a nice variety of fresh choices every time I've been. This is a favorite of my friends and family in the area. It has an authentic Asian taste that is most pleasing to the pallate. I especially love their General Tsao's Chicken. It's nice and spicy, and the flavor is amazing. The atmosphere is very friendly and comforting, and over the years I have become good friends with the owners. I love the service they provide here and the quality that is presented in their dishes. This is not a buffet restaurant. It is a little drive if you are coming from Houston but it is well worth it. I don't know what they put in the egg roles but I have not had any that taste as good as these since I was in California down in China Town. The Hot and Sour soup is great... nice and spicy. The portions are enormous... they intend it to be shared with the whole table but it is so good that you may not want to. They even have a few dishes on the menu that you can only get at Hunan Garden because they are a family recipe. The service is top notch and the atmosphere is nice. The prices are very resonable and I like the fact that I don't get charged $1.80 for a coke like I do in Sugar Land. I have never got the take-out but I do know it comes in those nifty little Chinese boxes that you always see in the movies =) NAME: J.
