MY REVIEW: REALLY LOUD MUSIC!! Annoying...Food was decent although for really good Viet Namese, head out Bellaire to Beltway 8 or V*an Loc or M*ais on Milam. Veggie Bun was passable - Bahn mi meat were good (via my spouse). May do take out in the future, but otherwise, cheap but not notable. Parking in the covered garage was nice...

MY REVIEW: this was our 1st time here and sadly it will be our last. first off upon entering, we had no idea that you go to the back and order. after figuring that out on our own we ordered #14 shrimp & pork spring rolls and 2- #30's which is the chargrilled chicken bun. we both added a "vietnamese" eggroll to the entree (which i typically do with this dish) and i'll get to that tidbit later. so after our order we looked over the nearly empty restaurant at 6pm on a monday evening, as there were only 2 other occupied tables and a couple people at the bar. however, it was a challenge to find a table that actually looked clean. the high point was the fact we got our spring rolls w/in 5mins. then before we finished our appetizer, our food arrived. so, in the middle of my bun was my "vietnamese" eggroll. this was a joke! i've been to many vietnamese restaurants and have never received anything like this. what i received was nothing more than one of those itty bitty fried spring rolls that you'd find on some cheap chinese buffet because i've never had a vietnamese eggroll with cabbage and carrots in it. i really wish that when i had asked to add the "vietnamese" egg roll to my order, that the asian guy at the counter taking my order would have told me that it was indeed NOT a vietnamese egg roll that they serve there. next comes the fish sauce. i'm fine with it being plain without the chili garlic sauce, but this had absolutely no flavor whatsoever and seemed rather watered down. even after adding the chili sauce (which i typically add anyhow) the fish sauce still had no flavor. the chicken was the only thing that had any tinge of flavor and that was just salty. out of the 10 or so vietnamese restaurants i've been to around houston, this is by far THE WORST! at least it's conveniently located in the middle of the washington ave bar scene because i think you must have to be drunk in order to think this is good food! we won't be back because there's not enough alcohol or hunger to get that desperate.

MY REVIEW: I think it's great. Very fast, very fresh and very reasonable. The menu is fairly limited but the items I've tried thus far were all extremely well made, flavorful and pretty darn cheap.
This is a great option for the Washington Avenue area if you're NOT looking for a burger or Mexican food.
Great stuff!

MY REVIEW: Well, not that good. Sad to say. The place has a interesting decor, though I noticed that the tables and floors were a bit dirty. The acoustics in the seating area are such that the room is too load. I ordered the stir fry beef vermicelli and my partner ordered the chargrill shrimp on rice. The food was cold (it's possible that it was supposed to be but I doubt it). The shrimp was not chargrilled, but lightly battered. Anyway, no need to go here if you already have your favorite Vietnamese restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I guess you get what you pay for and $20 for 2 people for lunch isn't bad, however, it left a lot to be desired. We walked in and wandered to a table to then realize that you order in the back and they bring your food out to you. There isn't really a place for a line and we kept being bumped and excused with the drink selection only a few feet away and the food comes out of the kitchen in the same area. The food was somewhat bland but light for lunch. Another thing to mention is that the bathrooms are extremely dark and did not look very clean from what I could see.
There are a lot better Vietnamese restaurants in nearby areas so I don't plan to return.

MY REVIEW: I can't say how much this blew me away. I had no idea what kind of restaurant this was. Met there for a business meeting.....man it ROCKED. It's counter service so you don't have to tip. The food items are typically $2.00-$4.00.... unbelievable for what you get! I'm moving to the area soon several blocks from this, and it's going to be my lunch spot. I had the #2 (pork sandwich) and I was told by a friend to add an egg. So the sandwich came to $4.00. I'm sold.

MY REVIEW: Everyone has reviewed the Vietnamese food so I'm going to add that the sushi bar is fantastic. Kevin makes some of the best sushi and rolls that I have ever had. Extremely fresh. His cucumber salad is excellent!

MY REVIEW: After two visits, I've decided there are other options out there. Granted it is cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. On the first visit, I had a grilled chicken vermicelli dish for $6.95 that was all dark meat and the dish had little flavor. My fiend had a sliced beef and rice plate that looked ghastly. The meat looked like liver slices and he only ate half of it. Yesterday, I ordered some spring rolls which were presented to me shrink wrapped on a styrofoam plate as though they just came from Kroger. The positives are a nice atmosphere and a great location.

MY REVIEW: I saw this place but I didn't even know it was a Vietnamese restaurant. They should really put that on the sign somewhere.
This place is pretty good. Granted, it is a tad bit more expensive than the places in Bellaire, but just barely, and I would end up spending more money if I had to drive all the way over to Bellaire anyway.
I was skeptical about the food because I would expect a Vietnamese place on Washington ave. to be inauthentic, but it is all pretty good. The banh mis range from $2.75-$4 which isn't bad but still more expensive than most banh mi places...but they are pretty delicious. BTW, banh mi bread is not toasted, it is made with rice flour...that is why it is crispy. I also had some pho which was pretty delicious...and the bowl was large. One thing to note, though, is that the pho with the meat combination contains some things like intestines and tendon, which I happen to find delicious, but I can imagine some yuppies in the area might get scared.
This is actually a typical vietnamese restaurant and doesn't offer anything that you can't get in bellaire for a little bit cheaper, but for people like me who live in the washington ave. area, this place is a godsend. I am so happy that I can get cheap, delicious banh-mis in my area, now. The only thing this place offers that others don't is a good location and some nice decor...oh yeah, and a full bar.
I like how you do not need a waiter at this place. I expected that you would in the washington. ave area, but it sure is nice to not have to leave someone a tip just because they bring some food out.
Pretty good place! I will certainly be back when I have my banh mi cravings. SO glad there is a good, cheap vietnamese place in my area.

MY REVIEW: So excited that it finally opened! Parking is in a well lit garage and restaurant faces washington. Decor is eco chic modern. The papaya salad was light and refreshing. The pho had a wonderful flavor! I tried the crepe with meat and that was good too. Can be a bit loud, and it just had a soft opening last week. The special banh mi was very good. We'll be back for more.

MY REVIEW: The last reviewer said it...the sandwiches here are killer!
The baguettes and veggies are fresh, the meats and/or tofu are delicious, and I don't know what they put on the bread, but it is oh so yummy. We frequent Les Givral's and it's especially good after 90 minutes of hot yoga!

MY REVIEW: The sandwich here is a killer. WONDERFUL. Any one of them, even some that you might think you would never like. Even Tofu (don't forget to ask for no-mayo if you are vegan...). Lots of noodle dishes, and Pho. The iced tea is great, and the food comes out quickly. Great spot for lunch. Parking Lot? Walk!
Definitely a favorite.

MY REVIEW: I've driven by this place several times, curiosity finally got the better of me. I went in not having any idea what I was getting myself into.
The parking lot is a little small; I drive a gas guzzling 4 wheel drive truck, and it was a little difficult to navigate. That's fairly common in midtown though.
Inside is not fancy, but that's ok, you don't come here for a big celebration, you come to eat lunch or a quick dinner.
There are a lot of choices on the menu, and it can be a bit overwhelming for the first time visitor. Also, there's not much description of the dishes. For instance, I ordered chicken vermicelli, and I had no clue what would come out. It would really be helpful if they had a menu that listed the ingredients for us Vietnamese food newbies.
My food didn't take long at all, like some posters mentioned, and it was really good.
The prices are very reasonable, and the sandwhiches look really good too. I'll be returning to try some new items soon.

MY REVIEW: I read the reviews mentioned in this post and decided to go have lunch with my colleague at Les Givral's anyway. My food was delivered to me in under five minutes. I ordered chicken vermecelli. Next to our table a table of three had ordered two sandwiches and a rice dish, their food was delivered to them at approximately the same time frame as us. The chicken was cooked just right. The food tasted great. I am definitely going to this place more often.

MY REVIEW: This is not the original Givrals, the original is now located near the University of Houston Campus (Next to the bookstore A++ and wing place) Now for this place, it's not bad, it's nothing fancy so just realize it's an in an out typer format.
As for the original Givrals, the names changed and the prices had to go up, but both places still have cheap prices if you ask me. Enjoy and give the mom and pop business a break. I am sure an apolgy was in order, perhaps her lack of communictaion skills can be forgiven this once. It can't be worse than the "SOUP NAZI..." lol
