MY REVIEW: Great menu, beautiful patio area with water features. Cozy and welcoming bar area, good service, food was very good. Dining room was empty but it was a weekday mid-afternoon, staff was courteous and efficient. I believe that the son is working hard to maintain the standards of the former G*risby Grill. I look forward to my guests enjoying the whole experience at my reception there in September.

MY REVIEW: I am in love with the Backyard’s new menu. I wanted to order everything on it. It is definitely affordable for me now and delicious. If you don’t know what to get I will swear by the raspberry chipotle salmon! The service was wonderful and there wasn’t a wait at all. I really enjoyed my experience and encourage other restaurant goers to give it a try.

MY REVIEW: Amazing new menu!! This place has changed the menu and for the better!! The steak was amazing and so was the service. At first, I was sad to see that G*risby Grill had changed its concept, but after my first visit, I was pleasantly surprised. Our server was prompt and friendly, our drinks were never empty, and our steaks were perfectly cooked. The new manager (the owner's son) came by our table and chatted with us and he was so friendly. Great overall experience...We highly recommend the place.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant used to be one of our favorites previous to the son taking over the management.Apparently he needs to watch how his father did things. The food has gone downhill as well as the service. We were there on Saturday evening with only two other tables full. We never did get our salads and we were way overcharged on the final bill. No manager was present to help us. We live in the neighborhood and want to see this restaurant make a turn around. Help!

MY REVIEW: WOW this place has gone wayyyyyyyyyyyy downhill! For a place that used to be packed every friday, saturday night, the food is low quality and extremely over priced. ($50 for a BAD App, 2 cokes and 2 entrees that tasted like it was cooked in microwave).....The atomosphere is eerie at times being the ONLY table in the restaurant at 7-8pm on a Friday night! OR sitting in the backyard with the poor guy playing the guitar to ONE table and 6 bussers/waiters.
This place USED to be soooo much better. I think there MAY be new owners or management or something because this place is simply a SHELL of what it used to be. The service is AWFUL, the bartender looks as if he hasnt served a drink in weeks since there is NEVER anyone sitting at the bar (besides the kitchen help)
The bathrooms are DISCUSTING! Someone call GORDON RAMSEY on KITCHEN NIGHTMARES...this place is in DIRE need of help. Once a great place to eat/dine now a stark reminder of how GREAT things can QUICKLY go down the drain. I hope it gets turned around.

MY REVIEW: Bad Everything! We went to Sunday brunch, apx 12 noon, ordered Migas and hamburger...we were not in a hurry but hungry and it took more than half hour, place not crowded, we almost passed because no customers at noon is a good clue as to poor reputation of restaurant, coffee stale, thick and cold, Migas came out cold and overcooked, hamburger warm but buns cold...unreasonably poor service, inexperienced help got order wrong...I asked: problem in the kitchen? Waitress said yes, mumbled something else as she walked away. Never came back...Jazz combo good listening but can't overcome bad food and bad service. We won't be back and we will tell friends, someone should open a restaurant there, until then be sure and skip this place!

MY REVIEW: I attempted to bring friends to the Sunday brunch. I called the week before to see if the jazz brunch was still being served. I was assured it was. When we arrived, the doors were locked and nothing said why. I had driven an hour to get there with guests. Someone sitting outside said there had been a benefit the night before.
Calling the next morning to ask why nothing had been posted and no one had said anything when I had inquired, the manager acted as if I should have known that the benefit was on. "They had left at 5 AM. There was supposed to be a sign on the door." So sad, too bad, doesn't "cut" it. The only sign I saw was the banner reading, "Sunday Brunch--11-3".
No food is worth the discourtesy and rudeness that was the response to my complaint. I will NOT go back. Houston has many good restaurants with excellent food AND courteous managers. My business will go elsewhere.

MY REVIEW: Great Seafood! It was our first time therer and found the service to be excellent and the food superb. The atmosphere is also excellent, esp. if it is beautiful out and you can sit outside. I will definately be going back for a repeat visit.

MY REVIEW: I had lunch here for the first time with a small group from work. I ordered the steak and shrimp off the lunch menu. I could not get my steak knife to cut my medium cooked steak to save my life. I told the waiter, and he took it back to kitchen & told me he couldn't cut it either! The four blackened shrimp were so overcooked that they were "glued" to the bamboo skewer. I was greatful my boss paid for this. I will NOT return.

MY REVIEW: We loved this place! The restaurant is very pretty and calming, with a beautiful cooled, outdoor garden. We were greeted enthusiastically and warmly, a vibe continued by every member of the waitstaff whom we encountered.
The food was hot, fresh and flavorful and we especially appreciated the variety of sides from which to choose.
The dessert menu was a wonderful surprise. So often when we go out, the dessert menus are 95% chocolate choices, which is very typically boring. At Grisby Grill, the only trace of chocolate on the dessert menu was a fabulous white chocolate sauce on the incredible bread pudding. We found the cheery cobbler with ice cream to be a winner as well. It was so nice to have our pick of a large variety of non-chocolate choices!
We're definitely going back!

MY REVIEW: Disappointed Again! I work within walking distance and wish it was worth the walk. This was the third time Iv'e tried this place. Five of us went for lunch it took almost two hours. The food was cold and had obviously been sitting someplace. Their idea of Jalapeno cole slaw is to put regular slaw in a bowl with a single piece of a jalapeno on top.
Bottom Line is High $ for lunch, slow service, poor food preperation. There are too many great seafood restaurants available to go here.

MY REVIEW: We enjoyed another wonderful birthday dinner here. The grilled catfish was terrific as usual with three pieces of fish. The leftovers tasted great the next day. My husband had a steak and it was grilled the way he ordered and tasted great. Two of our guests ordered the seafood platter and were delighted with the amount of food and flavor of all the seafood. My son ordered the shrip enbrouchette and said it was wonderful. The baked potatoes are great and so are the sweet potatoes. We had a really good artichoke appetizer and a to die for chocolate mousse dessert that we shared. They have music on the weekends and it is really nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. They also have the best kept secret in town when it comes to Valentine's Dinner. It is an all-inclusive dinner at a really reasonable price.

MY REVIEW: What a shame. The gardens are simply beautiful and the inside is too but the prices are outrageous for what you get. We had already had lunch, thank God, so just stopped in for dessert and coffee to check this place out for future reference. It was 3PM Sunday, so there were hardly any other folks there, but it took forever to get a cup of coffee and dessert. I know I must sound whiny, but nothing chocolate on the dessert menu? So I opted for bread pudding because nothing else looked or sounded good. It took a long time to arrive. It was piping hot and beautifully presented, but average to below average in taste. Disappointing. And we wasted $14.51 for 2 bread puddings and 1 cup of coffee (before tip). FYI burgers are $7.95, stuffed mushrooms $8.50, an a la carte vegetable $3.25, an omelet breakfast $9.49. Beware, you are paying for the pretty setting.

MY REVIEW: Second visit (as promised below) and we did sit out on the patio. We tried the Grilled Salmon "catch-of-the-day" and the Grisby Platter (fried combo). I thought the salmon was a tiny bit "fishy" tasting, but my spouse thought it was very good. However her salad dressing was not good at all (very thick, as if left out too long), also she thought the croutons were stale. Spouse's opinion of her dinner: poor salad, very good food. The catfish and oysters on the fried platter was superb (large, plump, moist oysters - a rarity on combo platters); the shrimp and crab cake was good (not superb, but good). A nice touch was the 4 different dipping sauces that came with the platter. My salad dressing was fine. My opinion of dinner: good to very good.

MY REVIEW: This place has really gone downhill. We used to frequent Grisby Grill to enjoy the snapper and great steak selection and then began to go to enjoy the food/wine and the staff. We always had a great time and the staff was very fun and knew when to chat to you and when to leave you alone. HOWEVER, the past few times we have been there, the atmosphere is BLAH the service is VERY subpar and the food is not up to its best either. Im sure the food is probably the same, but the service and the atmosphere just sort of make everything seem a little worse. There was just something about how the place used to be. The owners are still great and the managers still appear to be doing there jobs, UNFORTUNATLY the wait staff seems bored and dont seem to enjoy there job. Anyway, I still like the place and will continue to go there but it needs some help because its going down fast!

MY REVIEW: This place is good but it could very easily be outstanding. The ambiance, the reasonably price wine, the musician playing are all fantastic. If they could do little things like not serving wilted lettuce in their dinner salads( probably pre -made) or make the fish dishes a little more interesting, this place would be top flight. It is still a nice place to go for basic food with nice atmosphere
P.S. banning cigar and pipe smoking would be a plus!

MY REVIEW: I love this place, and am definitely planning to go back. The food is great and plentiful, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
We were there wih a party of six and two small babies, and we had a great time. A special mention goes to the dude with the guitar who leaves his (massive) playlist on all the tables so you can make requests - a really nice touch.
Initially I thought that the food would be poor quality as it is so reasonably priced, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The outside does leave you prone to being dinner for the local fauna, however, but they thoughtfully leave you a bottle of 'Off!' on the table.

MY REVIEW: First visit and we were impressed. They were very busy, however it was not overly crowed due to the very large patio and they were adequately staffed. We opted to sit indoors, however next time (and there will be a next time) we will try the well landscapped patio.
Everything we tried was excellent (one minor exception to follow); particulary the grilled vegetable-ka-bob. Shrimp, oysters, and crab cake was very good. My wife was impressed by the fries as well. I thought the catfish had a slightly "fishy" taste (however my wife did not notice this). Bottom line: an enjoyable meal. Glad we finally tried it and we will return.

MY REVIEW: This was our first visit but we dined with my Mom who had been there once before. WOW! I was so impressed! I used to be in the restaurant biz and had never heard of this place. The outside is amazing, although we sat inside due to weather. We can hardly wait to go back especially on a beautiful day/evening. My 2 year old had a blast. The band was attentive to him and let him play with them. :lol
The food was really tasty and portions were a value for the price. Our waiter was new so we had minimal issues that were rectified quickly. I understood being that I am familiar with the biz. He was very nice as was the management.
Great place!!

MY REVIEW: We walked in and the first waiter/host that saw us asked how many people we were having and he stepped outside to see if there were tables available. While he was checking two other people asked if we'd been helped. We step outside and it's beautiful, even prettier than back in November. Lots of people and a great band was playing on the deck. Close by is the small play are for kids. Our waiter was new, but very polite. Through out the course of the evening the night manager checked on us twice (probably to check up on our new waiter) and a person refilling water was always attentive. The food was excellent. I had the Mahi-Mahi and onion rings and my boyfriend had Orange Roughy and mashed taters and we both had a beer. Hot, fresh and nice proportions. I love the trickling waterfalls and ponds, the flowers and landscape are done nicely and the food was perfect. I can't wait to go back!

MY REVIEW: I guess there is something else on the menu but the Grisby Grill only means one meal to me - Crab Burger (sautéed, not fried), fries (shoestring style), jalapeño cole slaw, and I would prefer a beer but ususally have water or ice tea. Last trip was during lunch out on the patio. Everything was so tasty, I'll go back again.
I do recall a previous visit some time ago where it was not so pleasant (fries were soggy and the wait staff not so attentive) but it could have been due to the large group...

MY REVIEW: This is simply the BEST seafood in town and we almost didn't even eat here!!! We went across the street to a Mexican Restaurant and the place was packed, but EVERYONE was a bunch of JERK at the place so went walked across the street to GRISBY GRILL! HANDS DOWN the best seafood in town for the price...And hey the steaks are not too shabby either! The bartenders are nice and pour well, and the waitstaff isn't stuffy like at most nicer restaurants. The backyard is amazing and the owner even came to our table to see how everyting was. Now how many owners are actually ON the floor at their restaurant? Great food, Great service, Great drinks. My only "beef" is with the deserts they left me wanting more...ALOT more! BUT hey I'm not gonna gripe like these other people, who wouldn't know good fish if it sat on their faces...hey that's sort of funny LOL! I give it an A-!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
