MY REVIEW: I took my daughter to Indika for a Valentine's Dinner, we went the Tuesday before and we went early (6:30pm).

From the beginning.. the valet for $2 is nice, the decor is modern and we both liked it. Our hostess was smiling and attentive. The service was really good from the waiter to the assistants who refill water and take plates away. The waiter was also helpful with the menu and that was needed because we are new to Indian food.

We had the spinach/paneer appetizer.. it was great! Also the crispy wafer bread that they put on the table was excellent too.

My daughter had the Mango yogurt drink and loved it. For entrees, we had the gun powder salmon and the vegetarian sampler platter. Both were excellent, exotic, and flavors that just exploded in our mouths. We split the chickoo ice cream with spiced walnuts and caramel, it couldn't have been better!!

I thought the prices were fair for the quality. Also, I like to comment on a restraunts restrooms because I think it is telling about what might be in the kitchen and storerooms.. and Indika's were very clean with good appliances and good soap and hand towels.. weird I know!

I highly recommend..even though it may not be traditional "indian".

MY REVIEW: The food is of good quality, indian with a gourmet modern touch. The side dihes portion size is very small. The service a bit slow. The decor is very cheap and of poor taste in my opinion.Perhaps the weakest point is the noise level.Too high.Valet parking for $2.00 is a nice option. The prices while not cheap are fair.I seriously doubt this is the best indian restaurant in Houston. The reviews are overrated. While I may go back again it will not become my favorite indian restaurant

MY REVIEW: Indika is a nice restaurant, very modern inside. The food is also modern and contemporary. The food is not traditional Indian food but still tastes good. I believe the menu changes as well every so often.

That being said, I wouldn't venture to say that this is the best Houston has to offer. I will likely not go back to this restaurant because you can actually get better food elsewhere and for cheaper prices. Price is around high teens to low twenties per entree.

I also went here to drink the Anarkali cocktail which I heard was very good, but I'm just not a fan of this one. I like ginger in drinks, but not this mixture.

MY REVIEW: Indika is an experience not to be missed. I think Indika is one of the best restaurants in Houston at the moment. This was visit #5 and as with our past four visits, it was a wonderful experience for our entire party. The food was amazing...the salmon...abosolutely incredible. The peach and apricot paneer...melts in your mouth.

Service was excellent. Atmosphere...wonderful. And kudos to Indika for taking care of their patrons in terms of parking. Obviously, there is limited parking space sits on a prime spot in the Montrose. So...$2 for valet parking. Extremely reasonable.

The food is worth every penny. If you want "dinner" then pick any of the 1000's of average restaurants in Houston. If you want an experience...visit Indika. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

MY REVIEW: First let me echo someone else's comments: WOW! In the author's opinion, I had the best Indian food here compared to any other Indian restaurant I have been to in Houston. (Come to think of it, I have never had Indian food anywhere else BUT Houston.) I don't know what word to use, but it was so different from the standard fare I have had before (not to say the standard fare was not good, but usually you don't want to see Indian food again for at least one month....but not here!!). All the guests (and there were a full table of us)in our party LOVED the food and the service was quite good, too.

I highly recommend splitting a bunch of dishes so you can try a lot of food dishes here and discover your favorities. Some of the items we had included (I asked them for a copy of their menu as I would never have remembered everything we had otherwise): Paneer & Black Bean Birryani with Coconut, Mint and Cilantro; Slow Cooked Spiced Lamb Shank with Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Onions and Garlic; Kerala Shrimp Pilaf with Coconut Currey Leaves & Peanuts; A Tasting Platter of our Vegetarian Best; Grilled Chicken Breat in Makhni Sause stuffed wtih Mango Chutney & Pistachios; Uttapum with Spiced Calamari, Cocunut Chutney; Crabmeat Samosas Papaya Chutney, Endive Salad; and Corn Samosa Chaat with Black Garbanzo. My gosh, I am getting hungry just writing this! We will definitely go back to this place.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: Food had a great flavor overall. I had the naan crusted goat, and my date had the black bean and cheese dish. The portions were a reasonable size.

Weak points: I like food spicy, but I was sweating by the end of the meal, it could be toned down a bit. I did not like being seated in the far back table, I know someone has to sit there, but I felt as though it was on account of our age (we are in our early 20's). The table was dusty, obviously had not been wiped off -- I expect better for the price. Lastly, I felt the bathrooms were rather plain. With a place that has expensive entrees one expects to bathrooms to be more luxurious.

Pricy for Indian food, although I grant that it's a "hip" place in a hip part of town. Nevertheless, with a glass each of champange, two of the least expensive entrees, and an appetizer the bill came to $65.

MY REVIEW: WOW...is all I can say!

I took my senior staff to dinner here and it was a first experience for all of us. We each love good food and an adventure so we decided to try the restaurant that we had all heard so much about.

The staff was pleasant, and not pushy, they did not hover, yet were available when needed. Water was refilled regularly and there was never any lag time between courses.

There were some minor points that did lack, the foie gras seemed to be missing depth of flavor and the pork chop was a little dry. The waiter quickly replaced the pork with one that was more moist and much better. The crabmeat samosas and the duck salad were excellent. The lamb shank, which was recommened was excellent, as was the trout.

The ambiance was brilliant. The space was not over decorated yet the warm colors were inviting.

I will be returning and would recommend this to anyone!

MY REVIEW: I had kept my menu and when the bill came, I noticed that two of the appetizers were priced higher than on the menu. I checked this out with the waiter and discovered there was a pricing glitch. Looks like I was the first person to notice this in the last month. We had a conversation about the dangers of something like this to the reputation of a restaurant. It was the nicest the waiter had been to me. It's a funny place. They have someone take the orders but then the busboys bring the food.

I ordered two appetizers and one soup. The portions were each large enough to be a meal.

First appetizer was scallops, a serving of spiced tapioca and a crunchy celery or fennel type salad. This was spectacular and I would order it again.

The other appetizer was a duck almond kofta (meatball) curry with onion pakora. This went pretty much uneaten but more because it wasn't to my liking. The gravy for the kofta was more like a classic French stock reduction, very salty. The gravy tasted like French onion soup.

The soup was a seafood mulligatawny, also recommended with reservations. The shrimp and scallops were premium quality. If you order this soup, though, tell them to leave off the clams, as the clams just don't work with the mulligatawny. It was served with a little portion of grilled focacia that was awful.

Also awful was the serving of naan. Gummy, just plain nasty tasting. I actually spit out my first bite and left the rest of the naan uneaten.

The waiter was college kid aloof, not really very good, to the point where I would avoid getting him the next time I come here.

MY REVIEW: When dining out there are some main points that can be expected from the restaurant that any customer should expect.

Quality service
Good food for the price
Location
Clean atmosphere
and a memorable experience

Indika has the friendliest staff. Some of the menu items are words that i have never read before but the staff is willing to describe the dish to you and they don't need to run back to the kitchen for ten minutes to do it.

The price for the food is exactly what i would expect for the exquisite quality of the food. prices range for entrees from $18- $20- $30.

The location is perfect in a hot spot in Houston The new location is clean and modern the touches of Indian flair are perfect and the fresh flower arrangements add a fresh feeling.

This restaurant does not look, taste, or feel like any other restaurant you will ever go to. get a reservation. (like for any other popular restaurant you would go to)

all in all EXQUISITE FOOD, FRIENDLY STAFF, GO THERE.

MY REVIEW: After reading a recent publication stating that this was the best Indian restaurant in Houston I thought I'd give it a try. There were 5 of us, barely any room to sit (seated us on a table for four) and if you plan on having a meal last 3 hours then this is the place for you. I suggest you order your drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts as soon as you’re seated because you may never see the wait staff again.

The food was good but not exceptional. At these prices you're left a little wanting. I feel Indika fails to capture the essence of Indian cuisine. I tasted a little bit of everything we ordered. The trout was good, and the vegetable dishes were good. However, the lamb shank was pretty bad. The meat itself was good but the curry/masala it was cooked in tasted like burnt Ragu sauce.

In conclusion, overall experience was not good. The poor service coupled with average food is not my cup of tea. Having eaten at Indian restaurants all over the world I think it's fair to say that this is not Indian cuisine. Sprinkling spices and ginger in everything including drinks doesn't make the food Indian!

MY REVIEW: Great food, but awful place to eat if your group is 4+. It was very cramped, the service was awful and the waiters seemed overwhelmed. The food is worth the price, I would go back again but only if I am in a group less than 4 people.

MY REVIEW: I agree with most all the reviews... the food is very good. My biggest complaint is ambiance/decor. We went Saturday evening expecting the scene to be trendy and the place to be swanky. Unfortunately, the restaurant is somewhat bare and the large uncovered window made us all feel like we were at a casual lunch. The place is loud and no music was played... it sounded like a cafeteria inside. This place just needs something to warm up the interior. I'd go back for good food, but wouldnt take out of town guests... I'd take them over to D*olce Vita for the scene.

MY REVIEW: Very impressed. The food was all excellent, among 3 people who each ordered an appetizer and a dessert. Margaritas were good too. We are very demanding diners and extremely choosy and this place measured up all all counts - ambiance, decor, service, food. It's a little pricier and more "experimental" than other Indian places but very worth it.

MY REVIEW: I would call this Nouveau Indian cuisine. The decor is beautiful with rich shades of orange and beautiful dark woods. The music was ethnic ambient. There were many occupied tables, but no wait or crowd for a 12:30 pm lunch. Our server and the hostess were both extremely attentive and made recommendations. The vegetable curry was delicious and the the warm mango pudding with blackberry peppercorn cream was a party for the palate. My grandma loved the paneer stuffed roasted eggplant and saffron ice cream.

MY REVIEW: I started off with the Chicken Soup, a 10 out of 10! Moved on to the Vegetable Plate and the Tuna Entree, both also deserving of a 10. Finished up with the Chocolate Bread Pudding, which was great as a strong 9. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to many more visits. This is definitely the best Indian food in Houston. The wait staff was extrememly friendly, not the most attentive (although it was busy), and the restaurant was beautiful but a little noisey.

MY REVIEW: Although Indika is more expensive than a typical Indian restaurant, it's definitely worth the money. The food is exceptional and there's nothing else like it in Houston as far as I know. My friends and I ordered a variety of dishes and everything was great. I particularly recommend the quail appetizer and the sauteed calamari; the tandoori chicken chaat salad and the crabmeat samosas are good as well. We tried most of the cocktails on the menu and really liked the lychee margarita and the madras something (blanking on what it's really called). The mango cake rounded out the meal nicely, although most of us were too full for dessert.

My only complaint about this place is that the naan wasn't very good- it was chewy and a little gritty. Also, it's not as cozy as the old location. Otherwise, we were seated quickly, the service was great, and I will most definitely be going back.

MY REVIEW: soooooooooooooooo the new location is lovely but spare and particularly NOISEY! And there is usually a line waiting. The wait staff is very friendly but after our food order was taken the waitress never visited the table again -- the food was delivered by another and the tea refilled by another. The food presentation is also lovely but we ordered 4 different things and each was extremely spicey--- still the veggies seemed fresh, the meat tender-- This was our first time and for the amount of money we spent I was hoping for a a bit more.

MY REVIEW: Overall, this restaurant was a positive dining experience. I'm sorry to say that the Memorial location has closed and moved. This means that there is no good Indian food within walking distance of my condo. That being said, my fiancee and I went in on Friday, December 30th. We had reservations for 7PM and arrived on the dot. The restaurant was already moderately crowded. A down side to the location was the smallness of the overall business. In addition, plaster walls and tile floors, and being seated next to a window, made everyone's elses conversation echo like the interior of a kettle drum. I had difficulty hearing my fiancee', who sat directly across from me. Another down side was the waitstaff, who were attentive but overworked. Our waiter had what appeared to be a dozen other tables, and most were parties over four.

But enough griping about pettiness, the food was phenominal. We split an excellent eggplant appetizer that vanished too quickly. I wanted to order another, but didn't want to spoil my appetite. I had perfectly grilled lamb chops and my fiancee had perfectly grilled venison. Wow! She also tried the Madras Mojito, which was excellent. I had a house cabernet and she had a house merlot. We were a bit too overwhelmed when it came to try dessert, so we skipped it. We got out of there for under $100. Well worth it, despite the noise.

I hope that the new restaurant comes with some built-in sound deadening. I'll definitely go back!

MY REVIEW: This is my favorite restaurant! I cannot wait until they open their location in Montrose because then I will be able to go more often and be able to say "everyone knows my name" on the review.

The food is beautifully served and sensational. The eggplant was so good that we ordered an extra order to go before we left. THe salmon tikka is lovely and my kids love the vegetarian curry.

MY REVIEW: WOW!!! Doesn’t even begin to describe it. We frequent Indika and rightfully so. The food and ambiance is unbelievable. Everything from the appetizers (I personally recommend the quail or the crab cakes) to the entrées (the tandori chicken is exceptionally good), and OH MY GOSH the deserts (you have to get the profiteroles). The whole experience is one you won’t soon forget. Five Stars, if you don’t like this restaurant their is something wrong with you and your taste buds. We hope u enjoy it there as much as we do! If u get a chance (and if it’s not to hot) sit outside its a very romantic setting. The service is wonderful and the room is just the right size not to big and not to small go there ASAP u won’t regret it

Enjoy!

MY REVIEW: After hearing a lot about Indika we finally went there for dinner. The restaurant is a stand alone re-modeled house and looks distinctive from the outside. The inside is somewhat cramped but still nice. We noticed a couple dining on tables outside, but the weather was a little chilly for us. The wine list looked good and after quickly scanning the prices we ordered lemonade that had an Indian twist to it. It was fresh and tasted great. My wife doesn’t drink alcohol anyway.

For starters we had Chicken Livers sautéed and served with herbs and chopped tomatoes and crispy pieces of nan bread. It was perfect.

For entrées my wife ordered Goan Chicken Curry with cracked wheat pilaf. Nostalgia mad me try the Kerala Shrimp curry with Coconut Rice. I have spent so much time in that state called the “God’s own country” for its spectacular scenery. The shrimp was served with a spicy curry sauce accompanied by Coconut rice. The curry was spicy but devoid of any subtle flavor. The Shrimp was so-so and the Coconut rice had good texture, but again devoid of any flavor. My wife said that the Goan chicken was very spicy, but the chicken was under cooked. The Okra served with the Chicken was good and the wheat pilaf was moist and cooked to perfection.

I would have to say that the service was good and efficient. Overall Indika was a letdown from what we had expected. I have a problem with all Indian restaurants in Houston. Almost all of them serve the same bland dishes and I can’t stand them. Madras P*avilion, the vegetarian restaurant is an exception. Most of the Indian restaurants are good only on some days. They don’t seem to have any consistency and professionalism you see in good Chinese and Italian Restaurants. We thought Indika would be different, but we were a little disappointed. Maybe it’s because the entrées we had chosen (at least the Kerala Shrimp curry) were not mainstream food and the chef bungled it. There were only 12 entrées for dinner and you cannot ruin two of them.

We are thinking about giving it a second try some time in the future as the ambience and service were good.

MY REVIEW: This is a fantastic place to eat. (Best place to get indian food with a twist). My favorite restaurant. Excellent fusion cusine created by the owner. I have had Indian fusion/contemprary food in London (C*innamon Club, Z*aika), in NYC (T*abla) and in India of course and believe me this ranks among the best. Great ambience, lovely decor staff is very friendly. Upscale restaurant but totally worth it. Every dish on the menu needs to be tasted and you will come back for more!!
