MY REVIEW: The food has improved in the years I've been going there. They now have spring rolls and more variety of "sushi", the food is always well stocked and hot.

However, we noticed the cost to have dinner there was no longer appealing. Dinner for the family would run almost $40 with soft drinks. We soon realized that we could go to an Applebee's and spend just about the same amount and get the to-go box, whereas at Cafe East, you obviously can't if you dine in.

MY REVIEW: They have a large banner outside that talks about improved Sushi bar! Well there were about 5 choices in Sushi (only one was Sushi -- eel, everything else was rolls)and one of the rolls was HAM! What kind of con job is that?

Yes it is cheap buffet .. but this certainly is a place you don't even get what you pay for!!

MY REVIEW: I have always found the food good here not sure about some of the reviews but that is not my point. I find it a great place for chicken be it baked, fried, BBQ'd, etc.

Last time I wanted chicken rather then C*hurch's or the C*olonel or H*artz I went to Cafe East. Great fried chicken better than franchise places.

MY REVIEW: We have been eating here a lot but the last several times the quality has gone down--food on the line is cold, soggy, not up to previous standards. Plus it now has way more items that are not Chinese--which of course is why we go. A few things remain very good--the chicken marinated in wine especially and the sesame balls (when they have them). Service is good and hopfully the food will improve.

MY REVIEW: The 1st tme i went to this buffet, I must've been really hungry because it was great! the 2nd time I wasn't too hungry and it was mediocre. The 3rd and last time I was starving yet I was unimpressed. the food was cold and was cheap. I guess I paid for what it was worth. I'm vietnamese/chinese so I know what should taste right, and the food here was not tasting right. They use a lot of artificial flavoring...try the "jell-o." The choices were little. I couldn't even find one dish I liked. I wouldn't go back.

MY REVIEW: When the SugarLand location opened in 2000, the food was fabulous and inexpensive!!! We were relocated here from Florida and we went to Cafe East at least once weekly while we were settling in. The quality and value remained exceptional until this past year. The fried shrimp is dry and overcooked. The fried squid is soggy. The fried fish is overcooked. The quality of the food is no longer worth the value paid. I work in the Galleria area, so my family now meets me at L*ambo instead of eating at Cafe East. I hope that the quality and value improves because the location is very convenient.

MY REVIEW: Ireceived a flyer in the mail, which I usually ignore, but this was for a Chinese buffet on far west side. Since W*ongs II and China P*alace closed there is only one and not very good so I decided to try Cafe East for lunch. It was excellent. I think I tried about everything. They have a wide selection including some american favorites pizza, enchiladas etc. The only item missing was mussels. I ask the gentleman in charge and he said they only offer mussels at dinner. Waitress was friendly and helpful but may be overwhelmed. Took her some time to remove dirty plates from table. Large seating area so tables are not on top of each other. Also have booths and a bar. Cost was $7.71. I will be a regular.

MY REVIEW: Visited yesterday dinner time and I loved the place. Duck and mixed grill are good. All my friends loved the place. I don't think I could find another Chinese buffet that serves better value than Cafe East. I like the service joan did a very good job on that. She is a very nice girl.

MY REVIEW: Visited last Friday and I loved the place. Has been a frequent cusotmers there for over 4 years and I have to say they have consistantly improve over the last 4 hours. Good variety and taste good. They change their selections every 2 or 3 weeks and from time to time they have surprises like fresh crawfish, duck and mixed grill. My son loved the place due to lots of food for kids. I don't think I could find another Chinese buffet that serves better value than Cafe East

MY REVIEW: Service is okay, food is good at times, eating on a weekday = food not to enjoyment. eating on a weekend is recommended. there is not a variety of desserts! the soda tastes bad to me sometimes.. environment is quiet and is great for family gatherings!

MY REVIEW: Have been eating here since it first opened since it is very close to home. In the past few months, the buffet has changed for the worse. There is plenty of food but you can see where corners are being cut to save, or make, money. The shrimp fried rice is long gone replaced by rice with something that resembles some sort of meat in it. The sushi, once very good, is now just mediocre at best. During normal dinner hours, all of the items on the buffet used to be very fresh. Now, during the dinner hours, items sit there and are not very fresh. Guess I am looking for a new Chinese buffet restaurant.

MY REVIEW: We frequent this buffet more than others. We find the food to be generally fresh -- the times we go are busy enough to keep the dishes replenished with hot and tasty goodies. I think for the price this is a good place to go.

This is good for the Hwy 6 location in Sugar Land. The other Hwy 6 location in Alief, though, is not as good judging from the couple of times we have tried it there.

MY REVIEW: Strong Points: Lots of Food, variety, $2 cheaper than top chinese buffets

Weak Points: Cooking not up to par

Overall impression: go to fill up the stomach, not the delight the palate

Review: on a random chance, went in on a Saturday. The restaurant has a nice interior, clean tables. The first red flag was that about 20-30% of the customers were asians. But the price was about $2 less than top chinese buffets ($8 vs. $10), so I went in. The good news is that the owner is asian - cantonese, maybe and the waitstaff are all asian, and that he just happened to be eating the food there at the table across form me. The bad news is that the food tended to be overcooked, not fresh, or just had the feel of having just been shipped off a SYSCO truck.

It seems that they are trying to have the variety of places like china bear but at a lower price point. They do try to have exotic variety with cream covered mussels, sushi, and chinese BBQ ribs. But the mussels taste like they came from a frozen box, the sushi feels like it was store bought, and the ribs are overcooked to dry. Even the boiled shrimp isn't sweet and fresh.

Soft drinks, tea, etc., are $1.40 extra. They do offer soybean milk, but it doesn't have the sweet creamy taste of freshly made, rather taste like store bought, poured into a container and then re-boiled.

The hot and sour soup had no hot, just lots of vinegar taste. I was afraid to try the other soups.

Overall, this place is another trough feeder buffet. Not the bottom of the barrel, cheap and fried, it attempts to aim for the top, but doesn't quite make it there. If you want high quality chinese food, i would spend extra money somewhere else. But if your not too choosy, this can fill your stomach just fine.

MY REVIEW: I have to say that this is one of the cleanest buffets that I have EVER visited. The food was DELICIOUS and the service is OUTSTANDING. My friends call me the food critic of Houston, because I have been to almost all the restaurants in the city. You name the type of food you want and I'll tell you the best place to go. Cafe East gets a A+ on my list. They offer a wide array of food and the flavor is to die for.....I'm going tonight for dinner.

4645 Hwy 6, Sugar Land, Texas 77478  281.491.8181

MY REVIEW: The first time I tried the buffet I hated it. So I figured maybe it was an "off" day and went again. The rice (fried and steamed) was too soft like they had cooked it on a higher heat than required, but perhaps I like a my rice a little bit firmer in texture than most at least it wasn't crunchy (yes, I've been to places like that). The entrees were good I had spicy chicken, kung pao chicken, pepper beef all were typical if not better than the standard buffet and had decently chopped vegetables in them (not too small). The egg drop soup was a little thinner than I like it but was on par with other buffets in taste and texture. Overall: Good food for the price, but hardly the best I've had and trust me I've been to them all over Houston.

MY REVIEW: This place has a great lunch buffet. Typical of most Chinese lunch buffets, they don't put out the "expensive" stuff, but what they do put out is very good. They have a lot of chicken dishes, boiled crawfish, a few beef dishes, such as sliced beef and peppers, fried stuff, eggrolls, soup, salad, and dessert. The food is very tasty here. One day I may try this place at night.
