MY REVIEW: I was taken to Bears by friend from Alvin and went for what I was told was one of the biggest burgers around. I was not disappoited. I ordered the "Grizzly" burger which has a huge amount of meat (over a pound). This is not your greasy hamburger that some people like. The meat was very high quality and not very greasy. The burger was huge and tasty. Excellent small town atmosphere because the restaurant is in an old wood framed house with a view of oak trees in an older Alvin neighborhood. We visited Bears the same month that they were being sold to a new owner. I only hope the new owners kept this little burger joint the way it was.

MY REVIEW: Have went a couple of times and like their burgers. They remind me of the Brisket House hamburgers. You add your own toppings. The atmoshere is ok. It is an OLD housewith creaky wood floors. My kids loved it there.

MY REVIEW: A co-worker brought me a burger from Bear's one day. Even tho it was cold by the time I ate it, it was very good. So on a day off, I drove down to Alvin for a fresh one. The place is located in an old house; quarters are cramped, the parking lot tiny; it was packed and more people kept coming in all the time. There's seating upstairs and there may be a deck, I didn't check it out. The wait for the food was interminable. Tho there were only 4 or 5 people in line in front of me, it was over 25 minutes. By the time I got the burger, I was so agitated I couldn't enjoy it. Maybe I caught them on a bad day.
They use Certified Angus, according to the menu. Patties are hand-formed and huge, much too big for the bun, which is not necessarily good as far as I'm concerned (actually, five sizes are available, up to a 1#, I think I had the 1/3#). They bill themselves as the "home of the fried onion burger." I've come across a couple of these lately and I'm not sure what the deal is. The onions are really grilled or sauteed, not fried as in deep fried, and they don't put a lot on the burger, so it doesn't really affect the taste that much. I'm and onion lover and I think I'd like it if they really piled the onions on, but haven't seen anything on the menu that says "extra onions $.50" or anything.
I'm not really giving this place a thumbs up or down, based on my limited experience, I'm just posting this review so maybe others in the Pearland, Alvin, Hobby Airport area will know about it. If I'm over that way (at least it's not as long a drive as Tookie's in Seabrook), I'll give them another try, but I don't think I'll make another special trip.
They're open very limited lunch hours on Monday, closed Sunday. It's 2 blocks west of Gordon, the old main drag through Alvin, and a couple of blocks south of the old railroad tracks.
