MY REVIEW: My wife and I went to see a friend play in a band on the patio. Food and service was good. However, we had red wine from the patio bar. It was very hot. The waitress brougt a glass of ice to cool it down.

MY REVIEW: Won't be back! Food was cold, service was lousy. Way over priced. Ate at original Clifton's years ago and it was great. Save your time and money go somewhere else.

MY REVIEW: This was my third time eating here while working in Bacliff - the lunch specials are pretty good. But today I got my lunch break a little late, a little before 2 pm. I ordered the lunch special, blackened catfish with potatoes and green beans. Waitress asked what kind of dressing I want on my salad. Then she comes back and tells me a salad doesn't come with the lunch special - just the dinner special. No problem, I don't need a salad.
The food was decent. The catfish could have had more seasoning, and the potatoes were mashy, but the green beans were great. A different waitress came and I followed lunch with bread pudding, which was OK.
With the bread pudding came the bill. I was charged $5 more - charged for the dinner special instead of the lunch special. The waitress comes back (I think she was actually a manager), and I ask if there's a mistake on the bill. Tersely, she replied "I didn't make a mistake. Lunch stops promptly at 2pm." Allright, where's my salad? "Like I said, lunch stops promptly at 2pm." It actually felt like I was being spit on. Decent place, ruined by the service.

MY REVIEW: Went to Clifton by the Sea yesterday afternoon because the weather was so beautiful. Sat outside on the patio looking out over the bay and it was delightful. The food was not particularly good however, and I would have to rate it below average. The Ponchatrain stew was very good, but that was about the only thing I really enjoyed. Service was OK, but won't win any prizes. Perhaps my problem is that I have goten used to the more highly spiced cajun seafood at P*appadeaux's, and Cliftons's tasted quite bland. $50 for 2 people including tax and tip with only water to drink.

MY REVIEW: Lunch specials are a great value - the best are Fried Shrimp (Wed) or Catfish (Fri). Can't be in a hurry when you go, even when not crowded service is a little slow (down home friendlyness not to rush you). Note: I am very particuar about fish tasting fishy - Catfish was wonderful and fresh.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I like to eat the luncheon specials at Clifton. We are never disappointed. The pork chop is excellent, and so is the catfish, but we usually get the fried shrimp. We've never had a problem with our order or service. We eat there at least twice a month.

MY REVIEW: My wife and brother and his wife called ahead to inquire about thier steamed oysters, we were told they had them and had plenty. When we arrived we were promptly seated. They were not very busy(only three tables. After waiting for 20 minutes and watching numerous watiers walk past our table without even looking at us, we had to get up and ask for a manager. When the waiter finally got there we ordered the steamed oysters. We were then told they didn't have any. The manager did not seem to care that we called ahead and was told different. We did not order and left.
Needless to say we will never go back.

MY REVIEW: My husband's family has a house in the area and we used to go to Clifton's years ago. This was the first time we had been there since they rebuilt the restaurant to look like a diner.
We went at around 7 p.m. after finding a couple of other of our favorite seafood restaurants very crowded and being unwilling to wait long.
My husband had the Clifton by the Sea Platter; I had an appetizer of stuffed jalapenos and the shrimp and oysters. We found the food of average quality and rather bland. Rolls never came to the table. The stuffed jalapenos have a great stuffing but were so mild that I could barely taste the jalapeno. The gumbo was lovely and full of goodies, but again, very bland.
Our waitress was cheerful and efficient.
Husband had the Key Lime Pie for dessert -- it was good but the presentation was way too fussy for a diner atmosphere.
I probably will not make an effort to go to this restaurant agaiun since there are so many restaurants in the area that are so much better,

MY REVIEW: I have very special friends that live in San Leon, and we have made it an annual tradition to visit, take home a little shrimp and mainly "eat at Clifton's". We have tried other local seafood restaurants and we always go back to Clifton's. We drive from the Dallas/Fort Worth area just to eat at Clifton's By The Sea. The service has always been exceptional, and for the fresh quality and amount of food you get, the prices are comparable to any other seafood house. We are scheduled to leave DFW next Sunday for a 5 day cruise, and definately have Clifton's in the plan for dinner Sunday night. The view is beautiful wherever you sit. I suggest the Salmon or the one of the huge platters......this feeds more then a few!! See ya Sunday January 30

MY REVIEW: Clifton by the Sea
Just came back from spending a week in the Houston / Galveston area. This was our first time eating at Clifton by the Sea. We almost left because the front of the restaurant is permeated with cigarette smoke. Food was excellent from the grilled items to the steamer tray. Only issue was the steamed oysters were pretty dried out and tough. Service had a lot to be desired. Service never brought out bread or crackers with our salads, and never brought out the side dishes with our steamer meals. Nice view of the bay!. We’ll be scratching this off our list of future spots. Check out my other reviews on G*aidos, O*cean Grill, C*lifton by the sea, P*apadeaux, M*ambo’s and the O*utriggers Seafood Grill.

MY REVIEW: Nobody has yet mentioned the great weekday lunch specials at Clifton's... these are highly reasonable in price and we go there especially for them. Of course, then you must choose the one particular special of the day for just $5.99 with an entree and a choice of two homemade veggies. This is the first place I have run into that adds shrimp to their coleslaw. And I wholeheartedly agree that the bread pudding is "to die for"! At lunchtime, it is only $1.50. Now beat that with a stick!!

MY REVIEW: We've recently moved to San Leon permanently although we've been down @ the bay for years and eaten @ Clifton's on numerous occasions. The food is wonderful and the staff is great! Every day is a different special to the tune of $9.99 and, having had most of them, I can say for myself and my husband that the seafood is delicious! Folks, if you want to go to Kemah and look be my guest; if you want to go to the bay and eat good seafood, go to Clifton by the Sea! @!

MY REVIEW: Great view of Galveston Bay. Prices are high but worth it for the "Lil Steamer". Make sure to get the extra "Florida Spices". Family style Salad is great. Avoid Monday night as ther are "No adults in charge".
Service has a long way to go and is very hit or miss. Last night (Monday)we had a complete "loser" who couldn't get anything right for a group of 7 and wanted to argue about it. Manager who was probably his girlfriend didn't do much better. She even "Cut me off" and I hadn't even had a drink.
Anyway avoid Mondays when the kids are hanging around.

MY REVIEW: Clifton's by the Sea is an O K place to go, if you have a lot of money to spare on a meal that is just SO SO.. Clifton gets an A+ for the Ambiance alone. The view is great. Food is way too high priced. They'd still make a killing if they come down on the prices.
If you go there do save room for the Bread Pudding..... A dream come true. Please don't let the soda drinks go unfilled, what a drag! Don't order the shrimp cocktail because there is way too much lettuce & sauce & not enough Shrimp! That was disapointing!
