La Fogata Restaurant

MY REVIEW: Awesome food, i eat here about twice a week on my home after work. Im the type of guy who expects and demands good service, hate to say it but this place has terrible service. I always find myself getting up to notify the server that i need assistance. Now that im a regular i be sure to ask for everything i need at the very beginning. Also, I noticed only person there speaks fluent english. Great food, they just need to work on paying more attention to their customers!

MY REVIEW: Authentic! Came here for the first time today. Very warm service, great food. Had the lunch Bandeja special and took me back to my grandmother's kitchen. Very down-to-earth atmosphere and good experience. I'll be back to try their sancocho!

MY REVIEW: There are no Colombian places on the East side of town. I saw this place on my drive to Sugarland and deciced to try it out. My wife and I tried the bandeja plate and our boy had the arroz con camarones. His meal was good. ours, not so much. It's difficult to screw up fried chicharrones and fritanga, but I guess these folks have been succesful at it the meats look apetizing enough, but resembled looked more like they were meant for fajitas and not the bandeja. The empanadas were hot, but bland. the aji needed more flavor and the service was mediocre. I will try them again the next time I'm in the neighborhood just to give them the benefit of the doubt. I just wont order the bandeja....

MY REVIEW: Was recommended by my wifes good friend, so I popped by solo at lunch last week and had the Chicken and rice..wow was awesome. I recommend any of the blended fruit drinks and take friends, the staff was fine, the speak some english (as my spanish sucks, and yes I am a mexican)- the owner was hanging out and came by to check on us.
This is a jewel in the rough...(the strip center isn't the best place but no worries there). So good my wife and her friends had lunch there two days later with the kids and all were pleased. Great place.

MY REVIEW: Well when I was reading the review about La Fogata having pupusas i was kind of surprized. They must of gone to a the salvadorean fogata on hillcroft to which I also went. The real La Fogata has been in bussiness for about 21 years i've been eating there since I was a kid and is the oldest colombian joint in Houston and still going. I've probably had about every plate there. there food is real homestyle cooking. and it's not just for colombians either i've seen people of all cultures. they have my favorite plate called "la bandeja" which is about colombian as you can get. there empanada are real good. great smoothies of tropical flavors. service is low key, your surroundings are nice and homely especially since they gave the place a facelift.

MY REVIEW: I think maybe I was in the wrong restauraunt...unless one considers pupusas to be Colombian food.
The food was at best below average (I do like Salvadorian food but this stuff just was not good), the wait staff was abrupt, definatly not friendly. Won't be going back there....

MY REVIEW: Although the food was good, the portions pretty large, I would hesistate to say it's my favorite Colombian. I haven't had all the Colombian places in the southwest part of Houston, but so far I much rather would eat at P*anchano's that's not too far away. But it's hard to go wrong with any Colombian food. I just wasn't as impressed -- the only big thing is that the empanadas needed to lose the rice.
The decor is very informal and basic but definitely Colombian.

MY REVIEW: This is one of my favorite restaurants!! It located at 59 and Wilcrest in a strip center. This place look a little bit "ghetto" when you first see it but once you try it, you'll like it. I have had lunch at this place at least 75 times with no problems. This is a rare place nowdays because most of the restaurants are using pre-prepared frozen food. La Fogata makes virtually everything on site. The prices may seem a little high if you order from the regular menu, but the portions are huge! The also have 4 or 5 lunch specials that are smaller portions and very inexpensive. You can then order an empanada or blended fruit drink without spending a bunch of money. When you arrive, just give a wave to the waiter and find an open table. They offer good service but the waiter will rarely come back once the food is served.......kind of nice.
You must try at least one of these when you visit:
Empanda Bandeja Montanero platanos maduros chuleta any fruit drink they offer

MY REVIEW: I tried this restaurant today and was glad I did. It was so good! Its a small restaurant in a strip center on Wilcrest/59. It is Columbian food. Its not a fancy restaurant at all but was family run & everyone was so nice & so helpful. They have quite a big menu. We got a plate of empanadas that were so good. Small pockets filled with roast & potatoes & deep fried. They serve a very good salsa type sauce to put on your food that was so good also. I had the churrasco steak-it was lightly seasoned & cooked very well-it came with a huge plate of beans & rice that were good-oh & a fried plantain on the side. My dining companion had chicken fajitas-it wasnt your usual fajitas-it was bits of chicken and onions and peppers. It came with rice, french fries & corn tortillas. It was good too- a tad bit bland but he added some of the salsa and it was great. The prices werent bad either-my steak was $10.83-I opted for the normal portion as opposed to the lunch portion but the fajitas with a drink were just under $8.
It was a good little restaurant-I recommend it!!!!!
Dont forget to try the empanadas!

MY REVIEW: They have Colombian food, it is really great, you'll find things like Bandeja Montaņera (Fajita, Rice, Beans and Pork rib in one huge plate). Ask for the Empanadas (Like a Quesadilla but with a mix of meats inside)
