Fountainview Fish Market

MY REVIEW: First time here and it was a wonderful experience. The service was great, fresh food which was prepaired right there while we waited. There was no fishy taste to the food, nor was there a fishy odor in the air. This will for sure be a place that I will frequent. I live on the Northwest side of town which is pretty far from the resturant but it is sooooo worth the drive. I really enjoyed the food and highly recommend the Fountainview Fish Market to anyone looking for fresh, and tasty seafood.

MY REVIEW: possibly the best fried seafood in town. I got the jumbo shrimp with catfish, very very fresh. Catfish is very tasty and not at all fishy. I also got the boiled shrimp and jumbo lump crabmeat togo, very fresh. I will be back.

MY REVIEW: Got takeout from here today for myself and friend. We both had the same thing: Shrimp basket and coke.
It was quite good. The shrimp was fresh and obviously not something frozen. The coleslaw was surprisingly good. The fries were average. Would do it again.

MY REVIEW: Wow. I've lived nearby for 25 years and just found this place this fall. Recomended by our neighbor. The food is excellent!! I'm just mad that I missed out on all the years I could have been eating some great fish. We prefer the catfish and I usually get a dozen fried oysters on top. You can eat in but I like to get it to go.

MY REVIEW: Excellent fresh fish and chips. best I've had. not fine dining, but the plastic utensils and styrofoam dishes do just fine. even the coleslaw was very good. a big plus: the fish and the chipe are very hot and fresh. If you closed your eyes yoou wouldn't know you were in a fish store. Definitely will return.

MY REVIEW: I must agree with benmc. He is absolutely right. It is the cleanest fish market in town that just happens to offer the best fried fish and shrimp around. If your looking for table cloths and a waiter forget it, if your looking for a terrific owner who knows his fish then this is the place you want to be. You will not be disappointed. The "whos who" of Houston buy there fish there. Have lunch someday and see for yourself.

MY REVIEW: This is bare bones fried fish, limited seating, terrific shrimp, oysters & cat fish. Credit card minimum is clearly posted and its one of the reasons prices are cheap. The place does a huge takeout business daily and the staff does a great job of serving those who choose to eat in. Lots of patrons clear their own tables to help the owner, Hill, keep those waiting happy too.
An added bonus is the absolutely freshest raw fish in town. You're not overwhelmed by the smell of rotting fish like most fish markets, an amazing feat but one Hill and his helpers maintain daily. There are lots of folks who won't buy fresh fish anywhere else and with good reason. I've eaten and shopped here for years and have never been disappointed. This place is an absolute jewel.

MY REVIEW: Very good fried fish and shrimp for the price. The only down fall I think is you have to spend $10.00 if you use a credit or debit card. What is that about? I think they could get more business if that was not the case.

MY REVIEW: This place is "ok". Good for the price, but they tend to over-fry in my opinion. Service is neither friendly nor unfriendly, but sometimes in the summer they have a cute little Chinese girl working the cash register. I think this is the owner's granddaughter or something.
Anyway, this place is a good deal for seafood in Houston. Good portions. Good price. Don't take a large lunch crowd because this place is small. Also, don't be afraid to ask for the restroom - it's hidden in the back.

MY REVIEW: Whenever you feel like eating good quality fried seafood at bargain price, this is the place. Clean, quick, fresh. The fish fillets and the shirmp are yummy. They fry them to order and you can get all the tatar sauce you wish. You can't get fresh seafood made to order for a better price in this towm. Of course is a once a quarter kind of meal because is fried but... Good deal.

MY REVIEW: The best fried oysters in Houston can be found in this hole-in-the-wall seafood shop in a strip center on Fountainview between Westheimer and Richmond. It's a small family operation with just a few tables and a threadbare decor. They also have fish and shrimp. This is not spicy, Cajun-style, which appears to be the norm for fried seafood in Houston and the Gulf Coast. It's more what you'd find at a fish camp in the upper region of the South, like the Carolinas. The seafood and fish are simply breaded and quickly deep-fried in fresh oil. Very good.
I usually get my order to go, since it's too crowded to find a table.
