MY REVIEW: We went for a special occasion and were dissapointed. Was expecting something more upscale. Surprised by the number of people wearing jeans, was sort of like eating at a road house. The food did not match any French food I have had in Houston, NYC, Paris or anywhere else in France. Panini sandwiches were an item on the menu as well as pasta dishes. The bread tasted like grocery store bread. The waiters tried but stepped over each other -- just before the salad arrived, one of them took away our salad forks. The mushroom soup was good; however, the tomato soup tasted just like Campbells. I had a filet, it was cooked well and had a delicious Roquefort sauce. That was the highlight. The salad was totally swimming in oil. The bill was over $100 but we didn't care. Would have been happy to have spent much more for a better experience.

MY REVIEW: Made reservations for 7 on my birthday. Arrived 30 minutes early, no reservation. They tried to sell me on a table that would seat 4 comfortably, 6 tightly, 7 shoulder to shoulder. There would have been no room for even one appetizer plate. A nice table for 7 was open but I was told it was reserved. I wonder why they didn't lose that reservation? Walked out in disgust.

MY REVIEW: I have eaten at this restaurant for some time. I have had their brunch, many lunch meals and taken guest to dinner many times. I love the food, service and atmosphere. I have never been severed a bad meal and the staff have never been less than professional

MY REVIEW: Something to sing about on the west side! Both waiters that served us in our recent two visits were knowledgeable, warm, unobtrusive and blessedly free of condescension.

The dining room is pretty, unfussy and the atmosphere is one of pleasant conviviality. The food is nothing short of fabulous. Dishes are nuanced and truly special. Tres chic, en plus! Hands down the best French restaurant in Houston.

MY REVIEW: I am not one for superlatives but this place is testing me. The service was impeccable. The lobster bisque and spinach salad were outstanding. The lamb chop special was to die for and the osso bucco were unbelievably good. The fondant was mouth watering good. If you haven't tried this place do so. Take a credit card as it is not cheap. The tab for two was $155 plus tip but it was worth every penny.

the ambiance is comfortably luxurious. We loved it and it is now our special occasion place.

MY REVIEW: Love french food, love the art of it all, wish it was here. I had read good reviews, wish I had read more. My mother and I made a reservation on a friday at 2pm, due to the fact that the hours on the website said 11am to 11pm as did the door when we walked into the restaurant and we enjoy restuarants when they are quite and we can talk. At 2:45 we were told that the restaurant close at 3pm so we should order our desserts right away.

We wanted to try the appetizers and they were okay. The mussels were a bit bland, the carpaccio was covered with heavy chunks, thin shaved is appropriate, of parmesan, the foie gras terrine was so cold it was flavorless expect for the alcohol. I guess that there was an outside catering job going on because we waited for our appertizers for 15 minutes. This is funny considering the above mentioned rush. We were alone as customers and there were waiters trying to borrow the owners car, the music tape was stuck and repeating for at least 10 minutes. There was a very loud salesman at the bar and the woman answering the phone well I should not even mention all the absurdity.

The dessert was dry and over alcoholed. The cabernet by the glass was wonderful, but we were never offered a wine list which I assume plays into the fact that we felt rushed before we even knew that they closed earlier than listed.

To top it all off, I am sure these owners were there and acted like we were not, when there was no other customers... and we spent $110.00. Although we tipped 17%, I cannot say his service was worthy of 15% and trust me I love to over tip, but alais after the way the owners? acted why expect more from the staff. But gosh, dont you just love it when you want to tip big..but I will never spend another dime in this establishment, unless I here of great improvemnets.

MY REVIEW: What a disappointment The ambience is practically non existent - certainly not very french at all. The food was adequate but nothing special and the service was really awful - they even asked how the food was and when I mentioned the fries were overcooked the waiters response was 'oh, yes' - that was it Definitely wont be going again... expensive for no atmosphere and average food.

MY REVIEW: We went to see Ratatouille with our kids and decided to follow with authentic french food. We had visited this restaurant before and liked it, so decided to try their brunch. I ordered the beef on brochettes...it was superb!. The meat really melted in my mouth and the mushrooms were toasty and surprinsingly delicious. The sauce was definitely the best I've ever tried, it made everything taste good. I always like their food but this time I also like their price, it was less than 20 for a 3 course meal. My husband and I enjoy the quiet, romantic and hassle free atmosphere of this little restaurant, it reminds us of the mom and pop restaurants around Paris. We hope it stays that way when they move to their new location next door. We definitely recommend it.

MY REVIEW: After reading the rave reviews on B-4-. . . I had to give the place a try. I did. What is all the shouting about. Ambiance is very ordinary. Service was adequate but nothing to write home about (O*live Garden has them beat). Background music . . . a rock station played through blown out speakers . . . was mildly annoying.

I ordered a cocktail, a salad, a steak and a glass of wine. Salad choice was limited to some sort of blueberry vinaigrette dressing . . . no ranch, blue cheese or …..?; the filet came out perched on top of a potato like a miniature tower swimming in some sort of blueberry syrup. Weird. Recommended for folks a sweet tooth.

There are quite a few remarkably good restaurants in this end of the city. In my opinion, Le Mistral doesn’t make the list.

MY REVIEW: We decided to have a girls night out and indulge in fine French cuisine. We both live past the beltway and didn't feel like driving intown. I checked out the Le Mistral website and felt impressed by the two brothers/co-owners culinary and life experiences.

The restaurant is by no means a bistro. It has a large open space with a bar towards the side. Originally, I was seated in a booth next to a little boy with atrocious manners. Luckily, he and his parents finished quickly and I felt much relieved.

We were given sliced cucumber with some type of sour cream relish as a free appetizer. My escargots were juicy and tasty with the freshly baked bread. My companion's lobster bisque contained a small lobster tail and it tasted fresh and not overly creamy and with small chunks of lobster evident.

Atmosphere is nice, but not romantic. They placed elevator music throughout the evening.

My roasted double pork chop with sweet and sour pearl onion fig sauce melted in my mouth. I had never had such a succulunt piece of pork and the sauce complemented it to perfection! It was accompanied by French string beans and mashed potatoes, good but not extraordinary.

To our pleasant surprise, my companion's mahi mahi came out as a big bowl of fresh, juicy mussels and big strips of potato. How delightful the mussels were! She eventually found the mahi mahi underneath the mussels.

We were thinking of the souffle but the waiter gave us the best advice ever! I have never had such a divine treat as the chocolate fondant with vanilla shake! The chocolate fondant tasted just like a souffle with a delightfully melted chocolate center. We splurged and acquired the apple pie, which, to our delight, was not too sweet and had apples lavished on cruchy pastry in a little metal dish.

Definitely recommended. We'd love to try out other dishes and please order the chocolate fondant! I'm already planning my next trip there!

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is fantastic! This was our 2nd time and we had such a wonderful time here, with no complaints. The food was fantastic, with beautiful presentation. Dessert was spectacular. Try the fondant, it was the best thing I ever had in my mouth. With each bite, I felt elation. This may have had something to do with the fantastic wine, too. Our server was very knowledgable, and fun to talk to. As in the other reviews, he recommended our wine. When the bill came, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the wine was priced very reasonably. We were also given a sample of a cognac, which was fantastic. When we asked more about it, the owner offered to call the distributor to find out where it is carried. My husband and I feel that everything was above our expectations. Even though this was only our 2nd time in 2 yrs (it is a little far and slightly pricey for regular visits) we were made to feel as if we were their best customers.

Truly fantastic!

MY REVIEW: What a wonderful evening in this quaint restaurant. There was a special menu for Christmas Eve offering only a choice of entree. The food was outstanding and the French waiter a real joy. He chose a wonderful wine for us. I frankly thought the food was some of the best I have eaten. My daughter and son in law were extremely impressed with the quality of food and presentation. We will certainly go back. Don't miss this very special place.

MY REVIEW: How good can a restaurant in a mall strip be? You'd be surprised. It was my best dining experience/first date ever. The French garcon said he knows two things: wine and women. He was right. We left the wine and dessert choice to him, and he did not disappoint. We left in a good mood after an impeccable evening. I forgot what we had for dinner, but the wine was a red 1998 Burgoyne d'Or and the desserts were a chocolate dish and a French sampler with fruit and pastry. More importantly, they know how to act in a romantic setting: helpful but never in the way. My very attractive guest and I felt as if we were the only persons in the room.

Bottom line: A romantic ambiance and good food for that special person of your heart... Highly recommended.

MY REVIEW: I was looking for authentic french food and I found it! It was perfect for a family dinner, great food, incredible service, relaxed ambiance! I would definitely recommend it. We all had fish and it was all good. For dessert we had creme brulee which wasnt the best ive ever had, but the crepes were good.

MY REVIEW: Incredible! Since it is so far from us we don't go nearly enough and each time we do we vow to come back soon. The food is nothing less than spectacular! If you want gourmet french food this is THE place in Houston. We have eaten a lot in France and this definitely is on par with some top stops there. Since we had a long drive we each only had a glass of wine - but they have a nice selection of wines by the glass, opened the bottles at the table (most places don't even show you the bottle) and we think they may have poured a little much ;). The warm goat cheese salad and the St Jacques scallops appetizers were very good. The cognac green pepercorn sauce on the ribeye was to die for. The snapper is tender and delicious with a meal itself of fresh veggies. The chocolate fondant was a spectacular way to end the dinner. The one nit this last visit was related to the service. Maybe they were short staffed that night. Since the food was so good there was no issue but if we had a problem, no one ever checked after our entrees came. But we will definitely go back!

MY REVIEW: This is a special spot in the hustle and bustle of Houston. I always go there for business lunches because I know that we will enjoy a QUIET conversation, excellent food and good service. For me, it is a neighborhood restaurant -- with the many pluses and a few quirks that one usually finds in these cherished spots. I love the atmosphere and always feel as though I've had a true break from the rat race after dining there. The owners are wonderful -- if you dine there fairly often you are well remembered and acknowledged. Hmmm....what am I thinking? I'm encouraging everyone else to go to my favorite place which might mean that I can't get in........ try it!

MY REVIEW: A big winner with me. When I have guests or birthdays to celebrate there is nothing better than this restaurant. Seating and greeting are always immediate and the staff are extremely courteous. We asked for Bellini's and were dissapointed to hear that they had no peach for the champange. The waiter offered us an alternative Kir royal which was also quite good. I ordered the sauted fois gras (which I always do) but was disappointed to find out that the normal 2 pieces had been reduced to 1! This was done with a sweet fruit sauce which really balanced out the game taste of the liver. My friends had the escargot, fois gras terrine and the spinach and goat cheese salad. None of us were dissapointed. I must make a point that the wine menu is so vast at La Mistral that we always ask the waiter to choose a glass of wine that would most suit what we are having for each course. A really good idea - as we are never disatisfied with the choice of wine. Entrees, what a delight, I had the beef tenderloin with the peppercorn sauce, my company had the salmon with mussels, and the special of the day (which also happened to be beef). Again we had excellent wines to accompany the food. The vegetable were cooked to perfection. A slight crunch with a good fresh taste. We ordered a chocolate souflee to share for dessert and this was nothing less than heavenly. PERFECT. La mistral is not cheap, but you do not mind paying when the quality of the service, the ambiance and then food are all excellent. Will definetely keep going there.

MY REVIEW: Wow. What a wonderful meal. Seated easily at the time of my reservation. Service impeccable. Appetizers excellent. We had both the shrimp and the scallop dishes and they were just great. The entrees we had were the sea bass and the special of the night- the grouper and they were both amazingly tasty. The chocolate souffle dessert was a superb way to finish the meal. We eat out at least twice a week- generally upscale places of varying food types and frequently find the meals to be quite ordinary despite raving reviews by the food critics. This restaurant compares easily with the best food I have had in Houston.

MY REVIEW: Just been to Mistral tonight with some international friends and we had a very pleasing experince with the presetaion of the food that was offered. The food was in good proportion and the staff were helpful. The only thing I think that the prices should be included on the menu list to assist in the decision for customers.

Although this is a French restaurant price dont have to be inflated. I might go elsewhere to enjoy French food.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I dined at Le Mistral based on the reviews from B-4-U-eat. We were NOT disappointed and will definitely be back. We felt like we were dining in Paris for the evening. The atmosphere, the wait-staff and the food were excellent. The champagne and wine we chose were a disappointment but those were our choices. Make the drive out to Eldridge and enjoy!

MY REVIEW: One of our favorite restaurants in the city. Attentive service, awesome food (even something simple like the spinach salad is unbelievable). The wine list is the best - we always let them suggest wines with each course and have never been disappointed. My husband and I go there about once a month and have spent the most memorable Christmas Eve of our marriage there in 2003. Not pretentious, either!

MY REVIEW: This is by far the best French cuisine in Houston. I use Le Mistral for entertaining business clients and also for friends and family and dine there several times each month. French colleagues accustomed to dining in Paris are invariably complimentary about both the food and the wine-list. The service is usually impeccable but as in other restaurants there have been occasions when staff absences have caused glitches. I take these odd occasions in my stride because the good things about Le Mistral far outweigh these occasional problems. The restaurant itself has a very good ambience, not as cramped as Bistro P*rovencal and nowhere near as pretentious as Le C*ep.

MY REVIEW: We feel very fortunate to have Le Mistral nearby. The menu, food, presentation, wine list, service, wait staff, and especially the chef are exactly what keeps us coming back for more! When we want a place where we can talk and be heard, we come here. For authentic, delicious French food (creative but not heavy), we come here. Some of the best food we've had here has been at the Wine Dinners that Le Mistral has each month. It's always fun to go with friends.
