MY REVIEW: Best bacon cheeseburger ever! I love their firehouse sauce (HOT mustard.) I mix it with catsup to cut the heat. Go lightly at first. The sauce is incredibly hot. I also like the Tex-Mex - fried jalapeno slices and fried onion slices. Yum! They have some great specials too. I wish they were open for dinner! The place is extremely casual and always decorates in a big way for every holiday.

MY REVIEW: After reading review after review I decided to try one of the famous burgers. I liked the crunch on the meat, but it lacked seasoning. The fries were in small pieces (the bottom of the bag) and were greasy, but the onion rings were even greasier. I'll go back just to try the specials and will let you know.

MY REVIEW: Went Saturday for lunch. More crowded than I'd usually tolerate, but the cheeseburger is great. I'll be back.

MY REVIEW: I love places like this. Go a few times, and they'll remember you and what you like. I've always found the staff pleasant and helpful. Just remember to be nice to them, too!

The food is the way food used to be. Cooked fresh, good amount for the price, no one rushing you.

If you want lots of fancy service and amenities, go somewhere else. If you want a non-fast-food hamburger that's just wonderful, lots of atmosphere, and a relaxed setting, this is your place.

Thursday's CFS is to die for. Everyday burgers are fabulous. Tomorrow morning I'm doing Saturday breakfast there -- wonderful food at a bargain price.

MY REVIEW: Cute place. I met my fellow teachers there after an early dismissal. I hear they have pretty good burgers, but I made the mistake of ordering the "Firehouse" burger. I like spicy food, and have had many burgers with jalapeños, so I don't shy away from hot. But wow, this was hot...make you and your momma cry hot. I got about halfway through the burger and had to just eat the meat without the spicy dressing or risk death. The cashier (owner?) told me that he gave me a mild one. If that's true, we should be using the hot ones against terrorists.

Think I'll just have a cheeseburger next time.

MY REVIEW: I wish I could talk about the burgers, or any of the food for that matter, but we left after 20 minutes of waiting to make eye contact with somebody, anybody, who worked there. It is not the place to go when you are hungry, that is for sure. We would have stayed if even someone had said "I'll be with you in a sec," but maybe we were invisible, because we were not acknowledged whatsoever.

MY REVIEW: OK, it's jam-packed and not very intimate, loud, and the the hole-in-the wall's so un-level that its like walking in one of those funhouses at the amusement parks. Be careful your drink doesn't slide down into your lap. The chicken fried steak however,....you can't get a better one in Houston, all the flavor w/o the grease. You can't get a better bang for the buck either, when you compare it to the legendary CFS from O*uise's Table that is 2/3 the size, 2 1/2 times the price and not quite as good.

MY REVIEW: The strong points about this place is the helpful staff.

Weak points about my experience was everything else. The reviews on this place (IMHO) are very misleading. I expected more out of what I got when I visited this place. I spent 9 dollars and some change on a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings (no drink). The breading on the onion rings were similiar of the same breading that you can get at S*onic, but Lankfords were a bit softer and not crunchy at all. Eating a Lankfords hamburger was like eating a sloppy joe. More than half of the veggies fell out of the burger while I was eating it. They were very poorely constructed.

There are plenty of other places in Houston where you can spend close to 10 dollars for a more decent hamburger.

MY REVIEW: The burgers are the best in the city, because of the seasoning of the hand-made patties and the fresh veggies. Try the double meat only if you are starving, as it is quite a meal itself. Service is erratic when crowded, but that is to be expected in this throwback ( cash only, closes at 3 pm) establishment.

Daily specials are worth checking out, especially Enchilada Dinner on Wednesday. which includes fresh chips and salsa, beans and rice w/corn, and divine beef enchiladas with onions smothering amid chili cheese. Chicken Fried Steak Thursdays also a big hit, as steak itself thicker than the typical CFS in other establishments.

Desserts are excellent, with cobblers and pies aplenty. I try to go once a week, fascinated by this charming little small town mom-n-pop eatery snuglled amongst the developing condos of the inner city

MY REVIEW: Okay, I have to admit, it'd been too long since I'd been back. I went Saturday for breakfast and was immediately kicking myself for taking to long to visit. They must have a new cook or something, the breakfast potatoes, which used to not so good, were incredible. But, on to the REAL reason I'm posting: "Joe's Special." I never saw this before and decided to try it. Oh My God. What an incredible breakfast. Ground beef and sauteed diced onions, a huge handful of finely chopped spinach, oregano, sour cream, parmegian cheeze - with 2-3 eggs scrambled in. It was incredible. I'm no spinach fan, but this was some of the best eggs I ever put in my mouth. Highly Recommended!

And - I miss Jimmy. Good health my friend.

MY REVIEW: Okay, enough of the bun complaints. I stopped in for a burger July 1 and they are using new buns. They are toasted w/ sesame seeds on top. They DO NOT fall apart as easily and they hang in there with the huge hamburger patty. My only (tiny) complaint is that the bottom half of the bun is a little too thick, so you taste more bread than patty. At least it's hearty enough to soak up all those yummy drippings! Still the best burgers in Houston...Rock on, Lankford's!

MY REVIEW: Chicken fried steak was solid. (This special is Thursday only.) The meat on the steak was much thicker than your typical chicken fried steak. Texas toast and mashed potatoes on the side were also tasty. The house cilantro salad dressing was spicy and delicious!

Service on the inside was OK. No iced tea refills were offered (pet peeve of mine), but our food did arrive very quickly. Would definitely return.

cash only.

MY REVIEW: Believe the hype! The enchilada plate, only served on Wednesdays, is outstanding, as are the burgers, onion rings, and cobblers. Lankford is in a residential area and can be a little hard to locate for first-timers, but the drive out there is well worth it. By the way, bring cash!

MY REVIEW: Top burger joint. The other menu items are average. My only complaint about the burgers is the buns, they fall apart. Now since the meat and toppings on the burgers are so large, even a single is huge, I assumed it was part of the problem. No. The buns are old, dry and crumble easily. You have to use a napkin to hold the pieces together. Someone else remarked on this site that you need to be inside to get good service. Very true.

MY REVIEW: soooooooooo every one talks about this place and how astounding the food --and how many times it's been written up etcetcetc----when my daughter visited from manhattan my husband and i took her on our bikes to each lunch arriving at 12:45---the place was packed--only the tables for 2 were available inside--i asked if we needed to order at the bar before finding seats on patio---the elderly gentleman said no--go outside have a seat and a waiter will be right out---3 sets of couples entered during the 15 minutes we waited for the waiter-- i went back inside and asked again if i could order order at the bar--the elderly man said no--go outside and wait--a waiter will be out shortly. another 15 minute and a big group people comes and is seated inside--i go inside and ask the waiter if he could take our order now since he had waited on the 3 couples and the new group while we were still waiting outside---he huffed outside took our order and were didn't get out food until 2 other outside tables came had their order taken and theirfood delivered.---

sooooooo if you really want the "astounding food" experience in this type of place---- better to go to r*udyards on waugh-----waitress are friendlier--hamburgers are better, beer is colder and it's less money

MY REVIEW: I agree that this little place is a great Mom/Pops joint. My friend and I visited around 2pm on a weekday and it wasn't so packed. The server was very kind and friendly. We ordered the old fashion cheeseburger and WOW its sooo delicious!! The onion rings were pretty good, but the fries weren't that great. I would definitely revisit!!

MY REVIEW: I Love Lankfords The Burgers are the absoulute best ever tasted Friendly Down Home Country Cooking without all the preservatives.

If you go there for lunch I recommend not eating a meal that day make this you only meal never have I seen such a Menu with so many different specials daily the cobbler is homemade and they use plenty of whipped cream or Ice Cream.

The Tacos plate is plenty for two people, The Chicken Fried steak Is made with Real steak NOT ground beef Patties.

Jimmy at The Front counter is very nice and gracious.

MY REVIEW: Breakfasts are terrific. The chiliquiles are appropriately spicy, cheesy and delicious. The huevos rancheros are also very good, served with the same spicy salsa and added bonus refried beans, but opt for the chiliquiles. Also, get the tasty stack of bacon over the average sausage patties.

The burgers are well worth trying. Reasonably priced and big, you won't leave wanting more (at least not until around lunch time the next day). Try the bacon cheeseburger. The tater tots beat the fries as a side, especially with a little cheese melted on top. Wednesday, I will try the lauded cheese enchiladas. I will ignore warnings that the half order will do. After that, I am self-imposing a break from eating at Langford by myself.

Clearly, cheese is my weakness. And the friendly folks certainly don't discourage repeat visits. Cobblers w/ Blue Bell are awesome, especially if you don't have to go back to work.

Unfortuntely for my BMI, I have started eating here often. I'm headed that way now....

MY REVIEW: Being here for the first time,I decided to order the chilaquila breakfast while my wife ordered the French Toast. The chilaquila plate was spicy in which I was forewarned. It was indeed spicy but more importantly, delicious. The texture of the tortilla with the melted cheese and salsa was wonderful. With 3 eggs (I had it prepared over easy) over this concoction, plus, 4 good sized pieces of bacon made this like a mexican style comfort food. You simply savor the melding of flavors in this dish. My wife gave me a piece of her french toast. There were 6 pieces of this toast that was prepared "eggy" meaning that the texture inside was like custardy. With the custardy texture and flavor of the toast with the sprinkling of powdered sugar on it, syrup was not necessary. The 2 pieces of the patty sausage that came along with it was ok. The ambiance of this place would equal most eclectic locations in Austin. Helpful and friendly staff. Will have to try their burger next for lunch.

MY REVIEW: I highly recommend this unsuspecting place...great food and smiling service all the time.

Someone wrote that they wouldn't recommend this place when you don’t have much time to spare, and all I can say is great things come to those who wait... if you're that impatient, go to a fast food restaurant!

MY REVIEW: Eating at Langford is like taking a step back in time... We told the staff that it was our first time (they let us know all the inside information-- like no checks-- just tell the man at the check out your table number when you are ready to pay) We had the wonderful 'ole time' hamburgers of our youth and they were about the same price!! Please make sure that you save room for desert... or split one like we did. We had the blackberry cobbler with Blue Bell on top-- we really did think that we had stepped back in time!! We plan on stepping back again!

MY REVIEW: I finally ventured from my standard cheeseburger to try the Wednesday enchiladas and I was not disappointed. They were awesome, and I usually prefer tacos! The half-order should be more than enough for most people, for only $5.00. I can't wait to try more weekly specials and expand my repetoire past Lankford's #1 burgers...not to mention my expanding waist line! The highlight of my lunch was visiting with Jimmy at the counter while eating. Love this place!
