La Finca stands out for its consistently excellent quality food, and its fast and friendly service; in 8 years, I have yet to be disappointed in a meal, and I have tried just about everything on their menu. At first it was awesome, very clean and the food was great. Then they lost their touch, the food started not tasting so good, It seemed like they lost interest in this one when they opened the new one. Have gone back a couple of times in the past month. I found out the general manager bought the place and is the new owner. I must say there have been some grand inprovements! Mainly do to the fact that the atmosphere is much more to our liking at the new location. the one on Mason always seemed to be VERY loud, and cramped. As for the food, both the wife and I agree that the food is quite good. Portions are well sized, presentation is adequate, taste is better than most Mexican restaurants out there today. Service generally is quick and prompt. There is a slight language barrier sometimes. One thing the old location does have over the new one is an ice cream machine. The kids loved getting their free ice cream at the old location. Mhe managers have kept saying that one is coming to the new one, but its been a couple months and we haven't seen anything as if yet. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate La Finca a strong 7. We asked our waiter how the chicken was fixed in the enchilada. His response: "cooked". I ordered crispy beef tacos. The shells were cold and tough. My wife ordered beef enchilladas. They were so salty she couldn't eat them. We tried to talk to the waiter, but it didn't register. The sauces and chips were good. The prices were far too high for what we got. We've now made two trips. Our first, and last. The real strong point of this restaurant is the speed of service. They use team approach to waiting so there is never wait for ordering or drink/chip/salsa refills. Food orders are filled quickly. I enjoy the food, but it is pretty standard Tex-Mex. I have never been served anything I didn't like, but I also have never been served anything memorable. Each one seems one paricular thing that it does better then the others. For La Finca, it's the carnita tacos. They are truly excellent. What I did not like was the green sauce, it was tangy, like it had gone bad. It wasn't smooth or spicy at all. Is it always like that or did I just get a hold of a bad batch. I'm surprised to see no other comments about it being below average. The fajita meat in my chimichanga (sp?) was crunchy and not very flavorful. I am not sure if I will go back. All in all an average Tex-Mex Restuarant (but good, excellent is a different story, Tex-Mex is not hard to find). We had the fajita salad that was simply average (there are certainly better fajita salads available). We also had the fajita platter for one (both chicken and beef). The grilled veggies that came with the dinner was not the standard fare (it came with tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos). I liked the addition of tomatoes, however I missed the milder peppers others provide (bell usually). There was way too much jalapenos (and I like heat!). I thought the prices were a little on the high side (although the promotion more than offset that). Service was prompt and frindly, however I did not receive the tortillas with my dinner and had to ask for them (the table next to us was also missing part of their order!). Regarding the atmosphere some have complained about, it was clean and visually appealling - however it is was brightly lit and is in a strip center. I would not give points for atmosphere, nor would I take any away. Bottom line: An average Tex-Mex restuarant that does not really stand out above the many other average restuarants. Not really worth paying full price in my opinion. Having just moved to Katy, we found this restaurant as we were exploring the area. It's not much on looks or ambiance, but the food and service are top-notch. The complimentary salsas were great. The green salsa appeared to be a creamy avocado and green chile combo, while the red (brownish actually) was equally tasty - neither one was too spicy but still very flavorful. My wife had the "el once" - cheese enchilada and beef fajitas - and she was very impressed, particularly with the flavor of the beef. I had the "el seis" - a shrimp enchilada and taco al carbon w/ beef. The enchilada was good, but tasted a little too "shrimpy" for my taste. The taco was excellent. Both plates came out hot and attractively presented. The rice and beans were good, similar to other Tex-Mex places. Guacamole was also served on the plates and was very, very good. We will be back to try some of the other items on the large menu. One definite plus is the free ice cream cone you can get on your way out the door! Enjoy. Tony the manager is a wonderful man to work for, very polite and if something was wrong he always got it fixed. The food is excellent there especially the fajitas. Also my personal favorite is the Taco al Carbon because they make their tortillas fresh and the entrees are really big that you sometimes either share them or get to take them home as left overs. I always go to eat there when i come home from college. I would definitely work there again if still lived in katy. So everyone when you pass through you need to go eat there.
