Sandong Noodle House
9938 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, Texas 77036
MY REVIEW: The infamous cashier seems to have left. That would make this place much more pleasant to visit and have the really authentic Chinese food. The beef noodle can't be beat in Houston. Sliced Pork with mustard green is also very good. The rice with cured meat is excellent. ..... Try different kinds...

MY REVIEW: strong points are flavor and taste...everything we ate tasted good to us.
specialties (to us) were the pan fried dumplings (two flavors, cabbage or leeks)excellent price $5.25 for 10-12 dumplings.
weak points... are to remember to bring cash, no credit cards used, order and pay at counter then sit down and the waitress will bring your food to you.
ambience, extremely well done mosaic art work made by children is nicely displayed on walls.
lots of traffic in and out so food turnaround was fresh. we have gone 3-4 times and have always been pleased with what we ordered, however once you order the fried dumplings (potstickers) you pretty much never will order anything again, lol.

MY REVIEW: the bao is okay and I agree with the first comment. they are rude to customers especially if you are not Asian. place is so crowded. there are better and new Asian restaurants around and accross the street where counter people are English speaking.

MY REVIEW: We wondered if this was the same place as Santong Snacks which had been recommended for dumplings & noodles, so we tried it. Unfortunately we weren't impressed. The service was really bad, I had asked the lady at the counter if we order at the counter or sit down, she had us sit... but then no one took our order, so we went and ordered at the counter. You have to get all your own utensils. They did bring the food quickly once ordered but honestly I'm not sure what the raving was about. The roast beef & noodle soup was ok but the meat was fatty and the broth a little overpowering. The dumplings were fully mediocre, we tried the cabbage and pork and the pan fried pork. We couldn't figure out how to make a palatable dumpling sauce out of the bottles provided.
Really, if we had wanted to make our own food and set our own table, we'd have pan fried some of the frozen dumplings we buy at one of the grocery stores on Bellaire and they would have tasted about the same. The food was cheap but not as cheap as the grocery store.
This place definitely won't be replacing L*-a-i L-a-i as our favorite dumpling house.

MY REVIEW: Oh, my gosh, this new location has made santong my favorite place all over again. Very simple, but delicious menu and take-out items. The new location is clean, cool, great kid's artwork, and just someplace you would take any-body. You know, you had to be careful who you took to the old digs, pretty rustic. The cold sesame noodles and pork and cabbage steamed dumplings are my favorite. And the best part is--- they didn't raise the prices.

MY REVIEW: great dumplings - my fav are the dumplings in the soup.
but note - they changed locations - they are now west of corporate drive and the interior is a great improvement - the dumplings are the same goodness they always have been.

MY REVIEW: Hard to find but if you like fresh panfried dumplings well worth that u-turn!$4.30 buys you a dozen fresh and delicious dumplings.Pork,Pork and cabbage,or Pork and leek. Now the looks of the interior are rough so you must be a real hard core foodie to really feel comfortable, but those dumplings....yum!!!!

MY REVIEW: I have been looking for dumplings in Houston since we moved from New York. After 18 months of trying I finally found great fried dumplings, same level as in Chinatown, Manhattan. The other plates we tried (sesame sauce noodles and beef dumplings) were also good, but the pan fried dumplings were superb.
The ambiance and the prices are as basic as they can be.

MY REVIEW: Dumplings are to die for. The pan-fried ones of course. Dip them in your own mix of white vinegar/soy sauce/satay sauce they provide in condiment containers there. Cheap, affordable, and will be packed on weekends. It's as authentic as things will get, smack dab in the middle of the Southwest Chinatown.

MY REVIEW: Hole-in-the-wall place with just enough elbow room to eat...but that's all you need right? This place isnt about service or atmosphere, it's about awsome, hearty, fill you up, "ahhh, that hit's the spot," noodles. I hesitate to call it noodle soup, because the first thing that comes to my (American) mind when I hear "noodle soup" is CAN...as in the concentrated, canned soup you buy at the grocery store (sad huh?).
No...this is a noodle soup that you eat with Chop Sticks in one hand and a Chinese soup spoon in the other...thats right, two fisted eating at it's best! And, oh yes, you better take a napkin and make a bib for your shirt, because once you start eating, you get this tunnel vision thing happening, focusing on the center of the bowl with the concentration and focus of an athelete...you're in the ZONE, man! When you finally come up for air, you'll find the table around your bowl and your shirt may look like the bathroom mirror after brushing your teeth...splattered!
I had #1 on the menu, Roast Beef and Noodles (recommended by a friend). I also hear they have great (hand-made) dumplings, and since i'm on a "Find the best dumpling" quest, I'll certainly be visiting again.
Enjoy!

MY REVIEW: This place is pretty good with great prices. I usually get either the beef soup dumplings or the chicken steak with rice. My only complaint is that the food is a bit on the salty side (cooked with too much soy sauce). But it's still very tasty and I'd recommend it.

MY REVIEW: Run, don't walk to this place and have a big bowl of noodle soup with roast beef with a side order of fried dumplings. The best in Houston. No one does it better.

MY REVIEW: This is undoubtedly one of the best dumpling houses in Chinatown -- we're talking authentic Chinese dumplings. Their beef noodle soups and bao (large buns stuffed with meat) are delicious too. A good meal for around $4.
