Yale Street Grill

MY REVIEW: Old fashioned but spacious clean room. Without checking the menu, I ordered 2 fried eggs, hash browns, ham, whole wheat toast and coffee. The food was excellent. This is one of the few places that serves real hash browns. The bill was only $6.33!! Seems like you are caught in a time warp. Service was friendly. I will definitely be going back.

MY REVIEW: I recently stopped in for lunch before the holidays and also took my parents there for breakfast the week before Christmas. Both were good experiences. I had the BLT for lunch and it was tasty, HOT and satisfying. When I went for breakfast, I had an omelet and my parents both had eggs/toast/grits. Our food arrived hot and it was good. The prices were cheap and the service was reasonable (these waiters/waitresses definitely work for their money as they service a lot of tables). This is exactly what I would expect from eating at a diner.... very unpretentious and good food at reasonable prices.

MY REVIEW: the boyfriend and I have been here a couple of times to have lunch. Not happy that since its an old diner ans still remains short order cooking and diner style eating....Why no fountain drinks? never have I been anywhere where they serve canned cokes. or I mean canned sodas for any yankees. I think the food here is mediocre at best. Not happy with the service either. Had to get my own to go box and our waitress was found eating her lunch next to us while we were eating... So a small tip was left on the table. I dont think well be back here too many cute places to eat at in the heights...By the way, were from seabrook so its a bit of a drive to put up with a place like this.

MY REVIEW: First time visit. Food is fabulous. I had one of the omelets which was HOT (unusual at any other breakfast place), were obviously made with REAL eggs, (not watered down eggs in a carton), and hash browns were crisp--not mushy or with only the top crisped.
Crowning glory? Home-made biscuits with a side of white, peppery gravy. Very, very tasty-good. Gravy was piping hot. These tasty treats made me think of my Dad who loved them. You can make a meal on the biscuits and gravy alone. They are that good.
I even topped the omelet with a bit of the gravy--unbelievably good. Mid-Sunday morning, I'll agree--the food wasn't rushed out in 15 minutes. But it was a marvelous breakfast and well worth the wait.
Would I go back. You bet. Sit, relax and enjoy the atmosphere. You'll be glad you did.

MY REVIEW: I grew up eating at this place. I went to school next door and it was once a great place! But in recent years the change has been very dramatic. The people who now operate this are VERY unprofessional! One of the workers kid was running down the isle, jumping on stools and going from table to table, the cashier at the front was yelling to the gal at the very back.. the girl at the back was speaking in something other than English and was yelling back up front. A darked headed guy was chasing the little girl and losing the chase! The hamburger was expensive, just so-so. the malt GREAT as usual, the goings on were a totally out of place and showed a lack of concern for the clients.. Times are hard SO....
If I am going to spend money to support the local merchants then I expect them to let me enjoy my meal in peace!

MY REVIEW: Great little place for breakfast or brunch! If you like milkshakes you must try their banana shake it's great! So far we've tried the grilled cheese, Egg Salad sandwhich, waffles, and huevos rancheros and have not been disappointed. This is a wonderful "retro" place to take the kids, have them order and old fashion shake or a chocolate milk served in a malt glass coated with Hershey's Syrup. The Monte Cristo sandwhich is stellar here.

MY REVIEW: Yale Grill is a great place to eat. Breakfast all day on weekends and lunch specials during the week. Fantastic shakes from their vintage shake machine. Sharing the building is a fantastic little shop called P*urpleMooon that has some of the most unique gifts and bargains. Eat and shop in one place. I love it.

MY REVIEW: First off, Brady King is totally wrong in his comments. . . We drive all the way from Champions in NW Houston to eat breakfast on the week-ends, and if I'm in the area I'll drop in and have lunch or plan to meet friends there for lunch who work downtown. . .we've been doing this for 20 years now. . .
So what if you have to wait a few minutes for a refill. . .the problem with most people is they are always in a hurry. . .Yale Street Grill allows you to relax and enjoy a bit of the past and take a load off. . .
If you can't relax and are in a hurry, there are plenty of quick drive thrus that will get you in and out and on your way in a short period of time. . .providing there aren't any lines, then you could wait and wait and wait. . .
For good food, nice atmosphere and a bit of nostalgia, go to Yale Street Grill and leave the hectic world we live in outside the doors. . .not to worry, it will be there waiting for you when you finish your trip back in time. . .

MY REVIEW: Great food and relaxed atmosphere. I go here with friends on Sunday mornings and order just about one of everything but the bill is always small.
Try it out if your looking for a relaxed meal with some good old American food.
Great milkshakes, grilled cheese (so many places do it wrong), pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, and the list goes on.
If you're in a hurry go get fast food; otherwise, go check it out!
And Brady King's review is wrong.

MY REVIEW: With one exception, I noticed all prior reviews were by folks who had visited once, like myself, or who said they were regulars. The regulars tended to love the place; the first time visitors did not. Amy and I fell into the latter category, staying with the trend. From my experience, I think folks who regularly eat here perhaps value nostalgia over consistent food quality.
I agree that the place has a nostalgic charm, and I hoped I would be wowed for that reason because this is the kind of place I love to find if the food is good. We had breakfast. Amy had the special, a cheese omelet and hashbrowns with biscuit. She ordered the hash browns crispy. I ordered two eggs over easy with sausage, grits and a biscuit.
None of these items are terribly difficult to make, and the eggs, omelet, sausage and biscuit were fine if nothing to write home about. The hash browns were crispy all right, as in deep fried to disintegrating powder crispy. Not really edible. The grits were watery, an almost unpardonable sin in the South.
Service was friendly but inefficient. We got the feeling that they were understaffed. We waited quite a while for coffee refills but finally Amy got up and got her own from the coffee station. The couple next to us had done the same thing earlier. The management noticed this and joked about what shift she could put her on. To their credit, when we went to pay the coffee was comped.
I wanted to like this place, and would give it another chance, but may have a hard time convincing my wife. I'm betting lunch may be better, but breakfast is really our thing when we go out, so I probably won't return. Cute place though.

MY REVIEW: This place is great for a neighbood diner. It's not like the other snobby, overpriced places in the Heights. We go so often that the lady at the counter knows my son's name. She always greets us at the door. Yes, it is self seating but that's not bad. We've never had to wait long for a table. Sometimes the service can be a little slow when it's busy but the waitstaff works hard and are very friendly. The breakfast is the best. I wouldn't call it overpriced because the quality of the food is fresh and hot. They also have homemade malts and shakes. For lunch, they have burgers and nice big sandwiches. I always get the club which has ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Very big! Try it, you'll like it. There's also an antique/resale shop connected to it with some interesting items.

MY REVIEW: This place is a hidden treasure in the heights. I read the reviews and wanted to leave my 2 cents. This is not the place to order a ceasar chicken salad. This is where you order breakfast. I love it more that House of P*ies or I*HOP. I love the biscuts and Gravy...(Enough for 2) the eggs and hash browns are always right on and the sasuage and bacon is the real thing. You could dirty every dish in the kitchen on saturday morning making breakfast or just dine here and have a great breakfast...I like the atmosphere and love to browese in the shop for cool stuff...

MY REVIEW: Stopped in with a friend during a rainy day. I have this to say bout the place: expensive. My friend and I ordered soup, fries and dessert. The total was about $15.
And the service needs to change. It looks antique from the outside as it does on the inside, which is not a good thing. I don't mind the self seating, but the amount it took to get our orders and the general lack of service should drive the prices down, not up.
The food itself wasn't very good. Soup was oversalted and watery. Dessert portions were small. For what I paid, I didn't get full. I don't plan on coming back.

MY REVIEW: Great diner/soda shop kind of menu.
Old fashioned hamburgers with great fries or onion rings. The breakfast items are equally yummy. This is hangover food central!
Enjoy it for what it is!

MY REVIEW: Probably the worst chicken caesar salad I've had in my entire life!!! The chicken was old,..it was hard to chew and just plain disgusting. They put parmesan cheese or something like that & it tasted like if they had put a gallon of salt on top of the salad. The salad wasn't fresh at all.
So I don't know about the rest of the food, but the chicken caesar salad was soo terrible that I never want to go there again.
