MY REVIEW: This place is terrible. The service is horrendous and the taste of the food is bland. I recently placed an order for delivery and it took them almost 2 hours. When I called and asked about my order, the person who answered the phone chuckled and said that all of the orders were late and there was nothing she could do about that. Very poor customer service. I will never order food from this atrocious establishment again.

MY REVIEW: 3 of us ordered delivery for our first dining experience and we couldn't be more satisfied. The food was delivered quickly, correctly and courteously. The only feasible criticism I can possibly dream up is asking for my food to be spicier. I think the staff may be used to a more generic palate. then I prefer. The food is delicious but I like visceral response from my spicy food and I did not get it first time out. However, we ordered our food for delivery 15 or so minutes before the restaurant closed on a MONDAY night. Since all of us have worked in food service before, we know the ropes, but we were desperate. Regardless, we must reiterate that the food was delicious, hot and delivered very quickly, We will definitely be ordering from this establishment again.

MY REVIEW: This is one of the best Chinese restaurants inside the loop and possibly THE best for vegetarian cuisine. The place is so comfortable and staff is very friendly. Everything I have tried, and I've eaten here countless times, is great. I recommend VD2, Vegetarian General Tao's Chicken, which comes with broccoli and snow peas. The Vegetarian Chicken Curry is delicious, it is a yellow curry with peas. Seaweed salad here is always fresh and served with sesame. There is a large selection of vegetarian dishes. The seafood dishes are fantastic too.

MY REVIEW: Whenever I'm in the area and that urge for Chinese food hits, I stop by here for a yummy quick meal. Although, the waiter barely spoke English, he was very friendly and attentive to our needs, and refilled our water glass accordingly.
Yesterday was the first time I ordered their chicken fried rice, and let me tell you, this simple dish brought back childhood memories of my mom's cooking. Normally, I order from their lunch specials (no disappointments thus far). My husband always order the cashew nut chicken and I love their beef pepper steak and sa-cha chicken.
I recommend this place for it's inexpensive and flavorful dishes, and quick service.

MY REVIEW: As a frequent traveler, I'm always looking for the great local restaurants and easily tire of the national chains. The Hunan Village reviews intrigued me and I was anxious to try it. Wish I hadn't. Poor ambiance (old and in need of rework)+ only OK food; by no means great + a server that hardly spoke english and was far less than attentive + a wine list that barely surpasses Boones Farm quality = a very disappointing experience.

MY REVIEW: I'm writing this in Feb. and Hunan Village is planning a real party for Chinese New Year. Special dinner and entertainment. -- We also have been eating at Hunan Village since before it moved - about 15 years. We are rather attached to the laminated tables with the Chinese artwork on them and happy that they moved the tables with them.
The Chinese vegetarian menu is the best anywhere and, of course, any item on the rather large menu can be made vegetarian, be it meat, shrimp or fish - so many dumb restaurants think that a vegetarian dish is one where they withhold the meat, hah! Each vegetarian dish on this menu has a protein meat substitute of tofu or seitan. Don't say I said so, but they will also make dishes to order, within reason. We love the spicy shrimp and lobster, and the vegetarian Gen. Tsao's chicken - delicately crunchy on the outside, chewy inside, broccoli and wonderful spicy/gingery sweat sauce.
They have a busy take-out business, and you can pick up or they will deliver. On rare occasions they get short handed and someone who doesn't speak English too good gets stuck on the take-out phone - so don't take it too personally. Improvements have been made and they keep track of take-out by computer now. Cheap, plentiful, great recipes, and Heavens Be Praised, a good chef. This is a sort of favorite neighborhood place, and I sort of hate to think that it might be "discovered." Actually, never mind, you'll hate it - don't go there.

MY REVIEW: Food is great and the atmosphere is quiet and warm.
Our office friends met there for lunch at least once a week for years. We still go there at least once a month. It is a real treat for those who can't get to Chinatown Southwest on a regular basis.

MY REVIEW: I have never eaten at this restaurant before and after my experience today I never will. Some co-workers and I ordered delivery. The person who took our order didn't even ask for our address, they simply hung up. We called back since this piece of information is kind of important for delivery, they still didn't get it right. They had to call back and ask for it two times after that. An hour and a half later, we had no food, called to cancel the delivery and got hung up on. Horrible!!!!!

MY REVIEW: I don't understand how this resturant is not banking some serious cash. For how amazing the food is, this place should be huge. It is by far the best chinese resturant i have ever eaten at. The only resturant that comes close is PF C*hangs which is expensive. The prices at hunan are fantastic for the amount of food you get. I don't understand the complaints about the eggrolls. These are the best eggrolls i have ever eaten and probably will ever eat. I would honestly pay 100 dollars for the exact recipe for these eggrolls. The food is always bursting with flavor unless you get sweet & sour chicken, lemon chicken, etc. which tastes about the same anywhere you go....the general tso chicken, kung pao chicken, shredded spicy pork, shredded spicy beef, pepper steak is all filled with such an amazing blend of many spices & herbs. on a scale from 1 - 100, i would give this resturant a 95

MY REVIEW: I agree with the other reviewers in that you get a lot of (mostly quite good) Chinese food for surprisingly little money. As one reviewer noted, the eggrolls do tend to be on the greasy side. Other than that, I don't have much to complain about with this place. I've tried most of their shrimp dishes on the lunch specials, and each time it was well prepared with large shrimp, not the tiny frozen shrimp you so often encounter at the less expensive Chinese restaurants. Also, I didn't read anyone mention the dumplings, which are delicious, and just $2 for four of them.

MY REVIEW: This place was easy to order from, delivered quickly and got the order correct. The price was also cheap for all the food that arrived. They have extensive vegetarian options. Nearly any "meat" dish can be made over into a veggie dish. I ordered kung pao bean curd and mixed vegetables in garlic sauce. Both were delicious. I also tried the vietnamese style spring rolls that were not bad given that it is a chinese restaurant. (Go to M*ai's if you want vietnamese.) I would recommend this place for healthy, delicious chinese food with fast delivery.

MY REVIEW: I get delivery from these people at least once a week, dinner and lunch. They have the BEST value for your $$$. You get a LOT of food for the money! Their pork is the most tender and best tasting of all the Chinese places I have tried. The only thing is that their egg rolls could be better. There is a place down the street that has better egg rolls. Other than that, I say Hunan Village is awesome!!!

MY REVIEW: This place has a great selection of veggie entrees for reasonable prices. Try the veggie hunan chicken. It's delicious. Egg rolls are decent, but I found the veggie wonton soup to be lacking in flavor. T*ien Ren (R.I.P.-sadly closed) made the best vegetarian wonton soup in Houston, and I just can't find any other that compares.
I would like to try the seaweed salad. Last time I ordered it, they were out.
The service is friendly, and the atmosphere is okay, though there is a small table in the corner of the restaraunt that is directly beside the bus station. It shouldn't be there. The first time we went, they tried to seat us at this table (with many empty ones open), and we had to ask to move.

MY REVIEW: No thank you. I was thinking it was another place. Twice I've made that mistake and I marked the menu so it won't happen again. Maybe dinner is different, but lunch, chicken was dark meat, fatty, clumps. Eggroll dripping grease.

MY REVIEW: I have been going here for 14 years (since they were in thier old location) It is my fav. chinese food rest. I have turned many of my greatful friends and co-works on to this place. It just keeps getting better and better. This is one of the best Veggie friendly establishments in town. I even had my birthday party thier this year!!!!

MY REVIEW: This place is close to UST where I am a student and one day I was in the mood for Chinese food and decided to try this place out..My advice is to get there early..maybe around 11 am or you will have a hard time finding a parking spot..
When I was there I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken which was fiery hot!! But if you like spicy food (I do!) you'll love it! The portions are pretty good..the service was fine (they kept filling up my iced tea glasses)..not a bad place for a combination special...The only complaint I have is the parking situation..but other than that..not bad..

MY REVIEW: In general, it is my favorite Chinese restaurant for its price range. The truth is: the quality of the food changes from time to time. Usually, when the owner ( a very lovely lady)is present, the food is great. However, we had lunch there yesterday, and she was there, but the wonton soup was downright awful. In other times, when cooked right, it is superior. I have been going to that place for 5 years, and it is still my favorite Chinese place.

MY REVIEW: Seriously, Hunan Village is terrific. Try the Hunan Chicken. It's awesome. The only thing that could be improved is that they put corn in the egg drop soup. There's something just wrong with that. Otherwise it has been a great find and I will continue to eat there.

Seriously, if you want vegetarian (but not vegan) asian fare, this place is great. Sorry 'bout the person with the bad experience. Don't take it as typical.

Brief Description: So, I'm driving down Shepherd and I see the sign for Hunan Village, and just below the name, are the words "Healthy Choice", so I pull in to investigate. This is a small restaurant, so that, even though there is a smoking and non-smoking section, you really won't be able to get away from the smokers if the place is full.
The menu lists 6 diet dishes, consisting of steamed vegetable configuration with chicken or shrimp options, for around $6.00-$8.00. In addition, there are about 12 dishes featuring either strips of tofu or wheat gluten which has had the starch removed from it, which have been pressed and folded to simulate chicken. I got curious and, instead of going for something dietetic, I ordered the General Tso's vegetarian chicken. Hey, I really liked the texture and chewiness of the tofu (or gluten, I'm not sure which), it was a perfectly suitable substitute for chicken. General Tso's chicken is a high fat dish, and this was no exception, though. The sauce tasted great going down, albeit very sweet and syrupy, but I could tell that there was a lot of oil in this dish.
I looked around at what was on other tables, the place had a good crowd of people, and no one was eating the 'healthy choice' entrees. Everything I saw looked well prepared and tasty, so I suspect I will definitely come back here to investigate some more entrees. This restaurant has a very large menu.
The price range appears to be in the $6.00 to $8.00 range, with a lunch special served daily from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. In addition, there are daily specials, such as Hunan Double Delight on Thursday and Scallops and Shrimp Hunan Style on Friday, for around $5.00.
