MY REVIEW: Average burgers and the prices are absurd! They must be doing something right however since the place was packed during the weekday lunch hour I attended. It's been a while since I've been there and I'd heard something about a new menu? In any event it's the same old average greasy burgers for outrageous prices! I ordered the Hickory Cheddar Bacon Burger (w/ cheddar cheese, hickory smoked BBQ sauce, crispy bacon ,onions & lettuce) for $13.95. There was not a lot of bacon, cheese, onions, or lettuce. The overwhelming flavor was that of the sweet BBQ sauce.

Bottom Line: Why should I ever return? $14 greasy burgers with a predominant taste of sauce and $2.50 tea/soda! Over $20 with tax and tip for a burger and fries that is NOT close to gourmet! Why?

MY REVIEW: A good burger but prices are absurd. Fries are included in the price, most burger + fries come in at over $11. Add a $2.50 drink and tax/tip and you're looking at around $18. Much better values in town.

MY REVIEW: I decided to try this gourmet burger joint based on a colleague's recommendations. Seeing as how each burger was more than $11 I had high expectations. I ordered the Swiss Mushroom burger while my wife had the Peppercorn Ranch burger. After trying both, we were extremely disappointed.

Cons:
- beef patties were flavorless and unseasoned.
- my Swiss Mushroom should have been renamed Swiss Onion. There were layers of onions and a few slices of mushrooms.
- sauces loses their taste within the texas size buns.
- Peppercorn Ranch had no taste of peppercorns or ranch, just steak sauce.
- expensive for below average but expensive burgers.

Pros:
- Texas size portions.
- My wife liked the fires.

Verdict:
We won't be returning to this restaurant ever. For half the price my favorite gourmet burgers are still F*!ve$ Guy$.

MY REVIEW: We love their hamburgers & fries. While their specialty is hamburgers you can also find other things including chicken and hot dogs. They have fried catfish too. My only complaint is on their hot dogs. No self repsecting hot dog place in NYC, Boston or Chicago would serve anything but all beef kosher hot dogs. Pappas should too. They are so much better and better for you. I tried emailing them on their website about this, but my message was more than 100 characters even when I chopped it repeatedly and it wouldn't go thru. I hope they read this and consider changing their hot dogs. If they think their competition is J*ames Coney Island, they should think again. We ate there exactly once. I don't know if they ever tasted a Coney Island hot dog, but theirs are not the same. Coney Island hot dogs are always all beef kosher hot dogs and not the anemic things served at J*ames Coney Island. You can't serve a hot dog with all the typical NYC fixings and have it taste the same when the meat is a lower quality apparition of the same hot dog.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I always go to this burger place every other Sunday, and every time we go, was great. We tried the burgers, specially the turkey one, and it was juicy and delicious with mushroons and melted swiss cheese. I tried the ribs and they were so yummy !!!Love the fries. On another ocassion, we tried the beef burger and they really cooked it the way we like. The portions are very good size... The staff are very nice, friendly and young. Love the wings too, fresh and very tasty. We will go back to try different things on the menu.

MY REVIEW: I actually enjoyed the ordering system they have going. Once we realized we had a waiter, he was super nice and explained how the whole process worked. The chips and queso were awesome! Really fresh chips. I got the Turkey Burger which was good, if a little bland. I really enjoyed that it came dressed with grilled onions and swiss. You usually have to pay separate for each of those items. My fiance got the Cheeseburger and enjoyed it, though he felt that the quality of the meat was lacking. We both really enjoyed the fries.

The ambiance on a Sunday was certainly, well, LOUD! There were so many crying children and tvs and parent's yelling at their children to sit down that I thought we may have made a wrong turn and entered the mall food court by mistake. If we return, which we may if we're in the area, we will definitely make sure we go for a late night bite instead of a Sunday afternoon lunch. It's definitely a kid friendly environment for those of you with little ones.

MY REVIEW: BREAKFAST at Pappas Burger is new and GREAT!

Cinnamon Pecan pancakes with caramel sauce...fluffy eggs cooked in real butter...freshly squeezed orange juice...breakfast potatoes like only Pappas can cook...and more! Forget all Houston's other weekend breakfast restaurants - Pappas just set the new standard!

MY REVIEW: Strong points- almost everything. At first i thought it was ridiculous to order upfront then go through the whole process of a waitress afterwards, so i sat and ordered at the table, and i can honestly say that is more time consuming than the original process. I never expirienced that kind of waiting system, but it's a nice change from the ordinary. The waitress, Loren (sp?) was perfect the last time I went. She came at perfect times and it was obvious that she was busy with other tables but that did not interfere with our service. The waiting staff is very young and upbeat, I always feel younger when i eat there. The food was also wonderful! I want to go more often to try different things on their menu.

MY REVIEW: My medium rare cheeseburger was excellent. My only complaint is they charge $1.95 to substitute onion rings for french fries. I think that's too much.

MY REVIEW: I have had several really bad experiences at Pappas Burger. I am on a quest to find a really good hamburger in Houston. My latest experience at Pappas: The guacamole on the burger was painfully salty. When the young lady came by to ask me how everything was, I told her and recommended that she mention it to the kitchen so that they could check it out. She walked away without any offer of help, and then I saw her hanging out with other waitstaff talking away. So, I wasn't too happy with my experience there.

MY REVIEW: Pappa's Burger on Westheimer is a great place - it was one that I used to pass by, thinking that I must try it some day. Once I started about 6 months ago, I became a 'regular'. There is a lot of badmouth about the ordering system: order at counter, then server rechecks your order before filling it. But this makes for a fool-proof way to assure accuracy! And some were talking about "what do we do? seat ourselves? wait? servers were running around everywhere and not helping" Well, If you would listen to what the counter host tells you once you finish giving your order, she/he ALWAYS says: "You pay at the end of your meal. Grab your drinks on the side and HAVE a seat WHEREVER you'd like and your server will be right with you" This is said EACH and EVERY time you give an order- even though I am a Regular, i hear this, which is nice because it's a reminder and good for when I bring friends along, incase they go another day without me, they already know what to do!

About the menu - spectacular burgers! Burgers are supposed to be juicy, not dry. They are wrapped in a sheet of burger wraps to help keep them together, but if your meat slips out, that just lets you know you are eating a genuine burger!! They have a WIDE variety - from plain, to veggies only, to bleu cheese, bacon, and even Tuna Burgers, Mushroom Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches (grilled and fried), Cajun Catfish Sandwich, Quesadillas, Tenders and many MANY more choices!

Although onion rings are not listed on the menu, if you only ask what you can get instead of fries, the host will tell you that you have many other options instead of fries.

The desserts are excellent: my favorite being the Vanilla Shake - or Butterfinger Shake..that's always a battle.

The price is perfect for the amount and quality of food you get. I always end up taking like half home with me. And if you are unable to consume an entire adult entree, you DO HAVE THE OPTION of ordering a Kid Plate, made like anything...a kid's burger made like the Turkey burger, Tuna Burger, etc...

So if you are curious, just ask! The service there is splendid! I always feel welcome and always know that I will be served with the utmost respect and care! They always have great music going and there is a liveliness to the crowd that visits each day! It's a nice place to eat, visit, and just be merry!!

Thank you PAPPA'S!!

MY REVIEW: I agree that the ordering process is a big odd and time consuming. I think they could improve on this greatly. However, the burgers are excellent. You can order them the way you want them which rates very high for me. They are thick and juicy. A great burger place that just needs to rethink the ordering process.

MY REVIEW: Big portions of average food at a higher than expected price.

The process of ordering is odd. I don't understand why you turn in an order at the counter but you still take it to the table so a server can come out and pick up the slip to take it BACK to the kitchen. All this running around adds to the time you have to wait to get your food.

They should just turn in your order to the kitchen when you tell them what you want.. Plus, for first timers it's very unclear what you should do after you order. Seat? Wait to be seated???

I'm very disappointed in Pappa's and think that Fud*rucker's is a much better choice for a burger.

MY REVIEW: Strong points were that the hamburger was good and the restaurant was clean. Unfortunately, the weak points exceed the strong points. They need to decide if they are going to have self-serve or full table service because I (like the other reviewers) do not like paying a tip just for someone to carry my food out to me. I'd rather walk up and get my burger. Also, I find it annoying that the wait staff keeps coming up every 5 minutes asking "is there anything I can get for you?". One time is enough! Also, if you see my glass is half-empty, bring a new drink with you instead of coming up and asking me if I want another drink. You already know what drink I originally ordered (since you came up and verified the order at the table when we first sat down). Various wait staff people came up to our table 5 times grabbing used napkins, cutlery, my friend's ranch sauce she was in the process of eating (hey! I wasn't done with that!) and asking us questions in the 40 minutes we were there. VERY ANNOYING. I won't be going back because I like to be able to eat and enjoy the company of my friends without being pestered by waiters and then feeling the obligation to tip someone that didn't really do anything.
