MY REVIEW: This is a decent place IF you know what you're getting into. Nice view, one of the few places to eat on Lake Houston, varied crowd, casual dress. The food is a bit pricey for the quality but kids - wow, is this a nice place for kids provided you get seated about 30 minutes before they are hungry.

Our meal ended up around $60 and consisted of:

Crab and avocado plate with mango salsa - The crab was fresh, well picked and icy cold. Avocado was at the peak of ripeness. The mango salsa needed some acid and the kick was limited to the juice of the salsa. I recommend dipping the bread (yes, you have to pay for their fried bread) in the salsa juice, topping with crab & avocado & spritzing with fresh lime. GREAT. Would have again. Not too expensive.

House Fried Bread - It's worth it - hot, fresh, crispy and worth the $2.

Grilled Shrimp - probably the best grilled shrimp at the price in Houston. 6 xlarge shrimp, with an enjoyable kick - hot & fresh off the grill. This came with a salad - fresh, enjoyable (but ask for everything on the side unless you like carrots, beets, tomatoes, cucumber and a whole lot of other stuff on your salad).

My friend had the snapper topped with crab. It was decent, but not on par with the Grilled Shrimp for taste or value.

Table next to us (big, hulking golf guys) claim it's the best fried catfish in TX.

We brought out own wine and recognized that the service would be slow. For a slower paced meal you can enjoy outdoors, this is a pretty decent place.

MY REVIEW: Come on, this is CEDAR LANDING. $30 bucks for two crab cakes? L*ANDRYS? NO

School the kids waiting on tables BEFORE you turn them loose to wait on tables.

Seems to me over the past 15 years this place has gone from having the best fried shrimp around to not knowing what to expect each visit. My wife and I were there in April and swore we wouldn't return. My mom came to visit this month and the place is so close, well, that's when I bought her the $30 crab cakes and was disappointed with my shrimp.

For the life of me I can't figure out why so many cars are there when they are open. The only explanation I have is seniors looking for cheap shrimp which I think they provide during certain hours. If you're going to charge four star prices, teach the kids how to open and serve a bottle of wine and get rid of the plastic butter cups and for chrissakes give a person a chilled mug for beer without asking, and a napkin to set it on.

MY REVIEW: I ordered Snapper with Crab meat. It was floating in melted butter or oleo and the crab meat was so heavily spiced I could not eat it. We enjoy going there because it on the lake but will stick to fried seafood food in the future.

MY REVIEW: Strong point: it's on Lake Houston

Weak points: Everything else.

Whatever you do, don't go here. The service is bad, the decor is bad, the food is bad. When we went, we were in search of a seafood place close to our Atascocita home. We'd seen the place before as we drove through Huffman, so we thought we would give it a try. The parking lot is always full. My husband had the gumbo to start. It resembled a canned gumbo and he said it was mediocre at best. For our main dish, he had fried shrimp and I tried the clams. The shrimp were a good size and my husband said they were not over cooked, but there was hardly any breading with them. The baked potatoe was miniscule. The cole slaw was OK, but it really wasn't great either. My clams were HORRIBLE. I'll grant you that since we live on the Gulf Coast we're not likely to get good clams. We're not even likely to get clams that didn't come to us frozen. I do, however think we should get clams that are not over cooked and tasteless. The french fries that accompanied them were noodly. During our meal, our waitress appeared a total of once. We did not get drink refills and had to ask someone to find her so we could get our check.

If you're looking for a seafood place in the Atascocita area, Cedar Landing is not the place. I wish I knew why the parking lot is always full. It can't be for the food.

MY REVIEW: I cant' think of anything good about cedar landing. the first time i went the service was horrible, we were there for about a hour waiting to even place a order, and it was not crowded. even the kids did not like the food, the crawfish is about the size of a nickel and i don't think anything is fresh there. when we got our food it was cold. the second time we went because i thought "no place can be really that bad" but unfortunatly it was. the tea is the best thing they serve! it is way to overpriced for the crap they served!

MY REVIEW: Hi, I had to write a review for this place. I have always believed that you never order steak at a seafood restaurant and vice versa. Boy, was I very pleasantly surprised when I got a FANTABULOUS incredibly delicious rib eye steak from this restaurant. It was a lttle too rare, but the waiter very graciously returned it to the kitchen to cook it a little more. Yum, I can't WAIT to go back! Oh, yeah, the fried shrimp ain't bad either! The salad was tiny and sparse, but at least it was fresh. I guess I'm so happy because I've been looking for a good steak place, and found it at a seafood restaurant, of all places! I've had breakfast steak at D*enny's, I*HOP, and the H*umble Inn (on this side (E) of 59 and 1960, and they were all grey and old-tasting. I've also had steak at B*ennigan's(old), C*hili's(old), A*pplebee's(old) and Salt G*rass (order rib-eye but swear they gave me a cheaper cut of some other type of beef, like round or something), and was not impressed. I've only been impressed at the steak at H*ouston's, but that's on the other side of town. As a meat eater, I'm a happy girl.

MY REVIEW: Been visting this restaurant over the past ten years and it has always been great - service, food, everything. This past Sunday, however has changed my opinion. The service was AWFUL! Our server was predominantly elsewhere. The food runner would bring the next course but fail to remove the previous dishes! And seemed quite put out when we insisted she remove the salad and appetizer plates before plopping down the entrees! And the food was mediocre - a big disappointment when past visits yielded SUPERB food and service. The server was extremely inexperienced and unaccommodating. If this restaurant is going to compete with others in the area - they're going to need to step it up quite a bit!!!

MY REVIEW: To sum it up in a word "Meh!" If you drive by and don't stop--you haven't missed anything. We did so here is the review.

I liked the casualness of the place. Didn't have to be all dressed up and kid friendly to the point that we didn't have to worry if our 2.5 year old acted up as there is enough of a side show with the water, ducks, patio, wave runners, jungle gym furniture (Cheapo stuff) and noise to provide her with distraction and mask any discontent. She was actually very good.

We ordered drinks which drew a blank stare from the waiter, nice enough young man, but really had no experience or clue concerning what the place had to offer. Drinks sucked and are over-priced for "well" at $5.50 a piece.

We ordered three items; my wife had the shrimp platter, I the crawfish and the kiddo the catfish basket. Unbelievable the catfish was the best part of the entire meal (and I hate catfish. Kiddo ate a good portion of her meal. She also like the hush-puppies. So thumbs up for it--but at close to 7 bucks with a kiddie drink it was a wash.

The shrimp platter was decent. My wife didn't care for the extra thick layer of batter and we assumed somewhere underneath it there was actual shrimp. I would put this plate in the range of a Red L*obster platter but give them credit for the portion and the actual size of the shrimp used that you could actually see (scampi, char-broiled). Fairly priced at about $16.00.

The crawfish was again decent but nothing to brag about. I have certainly had better but bugs not purged before boiling. I am amazed how many places don't know how to prepare 'dads. This was no exception and by and large the harvest on my plate was small. Nothing worse than peeling a ton of small bugs--I would have preffered less with a better cull. Again, I think it was overpriced at $19 bucks for 3 lbs. However, I think the clincer of the deal for us was being charged for the bread for the table. Our total tab was just under $80.00 for 2.5 with tip with 4 drinks (2 apiece).

I would say this place is good for drinking a beer and watching the boats go by--if they thru in some music I might come again. The atmosphere is casual but the food is just as casual and as under-acheiving as the staff.

You can do better for the money spent.

MY REVIEW: Drove a ways to try out this restaurant because of their participation in strength.org's Katrina recovery program. 4 of us dined for about 72 dollars (no alcohol) The boiled shrimp were delicious as were the fried bay scallops. The catfish was fresh, and the oysters were superb. The fried shrimp were good, but not as special as the other things our group ordered. Hushpuppies were delicious too-- and the salad dressing-- especially the Thousand Island-- was so good. Service wasn't superb, but not that horrid either. They took our order quickly and we didn't see the waiter again until after someone else brought out dinner, but it worked out just fine. We didn't order dessert, but they sure had some good sounding ones. The view of the lake was really nice at sunset. Will we be back? I hope so. It is quite a drive for us so it won't be often. But for those of you in the area-- you are quite lucky to have this restaurant near by.

MY REVIEW: We live in West Houston and have enjoyed this place not only for the food but the pleasant drive out across Lake Houston. But this last visit was a real disaster. We went mid afternoon on a Sunday, mostly to avoid the crowds and long waits. There were only three tables occupied inside, but several on the deck which seemed to be beer parties. There were plenty of servers, but they seemed to be more interested in the outside people (bikers as evidenced by the bikes parked outside). The food was not the quality we have had here before and service was terrible once we had been served - tea refills hard to come by. But the real clincher came when we went to the restroom - the ladies' was absolutely horrid. As we were leaving, I looked for the manager to complain about this, and he was "not available". This place seems to have gone from a quality restaurant to a biker/boater drinking place. We won't be going back - will try to find another waterfront place for a nice weekend treat.

MY REVIEW: I love the all you can eat fried shrimp, even though they never bring you tartar sauce when you ask them , they eventually will bring you one, their salad needs to be improved on, nobody , goes there for the salad, it is really bad, the garlic mashed potatoes are really good, the service is poor to bad most of the time, they take too long to bring you out 5 or 6 fried shrimp on the all you can eat meal, with them it's all you can wait, noticed lots of wait staff just standing around goofing off , they could be filling my tea glass... good luck... check out Texas R*oad House to see how to make a good salad, it's obvious that you don't know how to make one or don't care, what's up with all that white lettuce? Try some vine ripe tomatoes on it, thanks.

MY REVIEW All I can say is, nobody else in Houston has the taste Cedar Landing does. I find myself craving it and my only option is to make the 40 minute drive out there. It is very good, although the dining room and suroundings are very dated and worn. It looks like some improvements have been made recently, though. I am usually too full afterwards to try a dessert. I highly reccommend giving them a try!

MY REVIEW: HI-our family went there for the 1st time last night and enjoyed good food!

One of us enjoyed the crabcakes, 2 of us had the ribe eye and shrimp combo-which we thought were very good. My husband said the gumbo was great. All the appetizers were delicious and plentiful. We will definitely be back some day since we've just moved to the area. The servers were all fine-absolutely no problems there! The chairs were plastic but comfortable. They might want to decorate the rooms with a few more nautical pieces to help enhance the pretty scenry outside..... next time we'll try eating outside. We ordered too many appetizers to order dessert.

MY REVIEW: My fiance and decided to try this restaurant because we pass it everytime we head to Kingwood. We were seated in plastic white patio-type furniture, (the cheap stuff you get from Wal-Mart; very little decor in the room we were in). We ordered shrimp and clam chowder. The clam chowder was AWFUL! It had so much bell pepper in it, (and not just little dices of bell pepper, huge chunks of it!). I've never, ever seen a clam chowder recipe that called for bell pepper. We were disgusted. The shrimp arrived...nothing at all spectacular about it. No tartar sauce provided, even after we asked for it. There is nothing special about this place. Perhaps sitting outside on the deck would have provided a nicer dining area, but the food still lacks---majorly. We left the restaurant hungry, (after paying $45).

MY REVIEW: The food is consistently very good but the waitstaff seems to change weekly. We go there at least once a month and never see the same people. All of the waitstaff stand at the front of the restaurant waiting to be assigned tables. This looks very bad to customers waiting on something or needing something when their waiter is busy with someone else. There are usually at least three waitstaff standing there at all times.

One other suggestion is to install something to shade the customers eyes from the evening sun out on the enclosed porch. I would also like to see Chef's specials made each week like Shrimp Creole or Crawfish Etoufee. WE LOVE the all you can eat shrimp and the Rice Pilaf.

MY REVIEW: Well - they don't literally know my name - but we have been here often. It is rare that one finds an "all you can eat" setting where the food is well prepared, hot and just plain good. Cedar Landing hosts an all you can eat shrimp special weekly - and it is excellent. We had a home in the Clear Lake area - so we are a bit picky about seafood preparation. These folks to it right! Nice setting/atmosphere with a young wait staff that is attentive. Have enjoyed other entries as well and all are well prepared. Seafood salad is a treat. Go - and enjoy!!

MY REVIEW: My entire family eats at this restaurant at least once a month for the last 5 years. The fried catfish and shrimpt are perfect... golden crust, moist on the inside and not greasy. Everything tastes as if it was caught only hours earlier. Their ribeye steaks are huge and flavorful also, but I just can't resist the seafood. The are located right on Lake Houston so the views are quite pleasing.
